I visited Royal Clifton Spa with a friend on the 3rd May. Before our treatments we had the use of the gym and pool I was very disappointed with both, the gym wasn't very clean the equipment needs to be updated the weight bench was broken no air conditioning and the carpets are badly stained the walls where great either. The sauna was nice and the steam room but the pool side wasnt the windows were very dirty looked like they hadn't been clean for while. Also workmen working near the pool so we couldn't relax with all the noise. Changing room door did not lock was a piece missing and also in the shower the soap dispenser was half missing off the wall. Treatments were lovely and the staff are very polite only criticism I have is to serve your complementary prosecco on arrival for treatments not at the end. If its treatments your after then I would avoid the gym and pool. Collapse

Visited the hotel on the 30th April for a 5 day break with my 41 of my Tea Dance friends. Although they advertise it has been thoughtfully refurbished with a exceptional range of facilities and excellent standards of service it has not! It has stood still, with many rooms having faults. These are a few of my friends complaints, a window hanging out, window catches broken, wardrobe door hinges broken, radiators to hot could not turn them down or off, bathroom blind stuck, mattress springs just about through the mattress, no hot water, no non-slip bath mat, no handles in bathroom to aid accessing the bath. On the Thursday our room did not have "Maid Service" so the toilet/bathroom was not cleaned, bins not emptied, beds not made, cups not washed or tea, coffee replenished. After visiting the Reception we did receive a visit by two members of staff with Tea, Coffee, Milk and clean towels and that was it, they were not going to get their hands dirty. With regards to the Restaurant, as we were a "coach party" we were given a dining room of our own, good you might think, maybe it was to keep us all together so we do not mix with the fellow guests. However we would not have minded if the food had of been good. In fact we had a menu with 3 Starters, 3 Main Courses and 3 desserts c/w tea or coffee. Although the starters were not bad, the main courses were drab, with one type of vegetables available on two of the evenings (green beans one night with cabbage the other night) and only two vegetables the other evenings. The desserts were of a small proportion. All of the courses were lacking in something, either enough dressing, sauces, gravy, custard and most of all imagination. On Tuesday and Friday morning all the items for Breakfasts were kept available until everyone was sufficiently satisfied. Full marks to the waitress on those days, Ula. At the Thursday Breakfast the cooked food was not replenished after 9.10am although breakfast did not finish until 10am. Plus the electric went off that was feeding the toaster. As there was no evening entertainment, we asked if there was a room we could use to organise our own entertainment, the Admin staff were slow coming forward, no committal. Monday night nothing was fore coming, Tuesday night we were allowed to use the conservatory, Wednesday night the Balmoral Ballroom although we could not use the tables as they were set for the next days function (however we could sit on the seats). The Balmoral Ballroom is a good 50 mts walk to the main bar, and 50 mts back carrying a tray of drinks?. On the Thursday we were informed that the Hotel had arrange for a singer to entertain the Hotel Guests in the lounge/bar. Although talking to the singer after his show it seems he is at the Hotel every Thursday!!! According to the Best Western website, "their" hotels are Independently owned and operated, each brand has its own personality and style, but all share the same commitment to delivering superior customer service, exceptional value and modern amenities. I would beg to differ, as the Royal Clifton, has stood still, they should move into 2018. They may prefer the clientele of Rotary Clubs, Afternoon Tea's etc but they need paying customers through the double doors. Coach parties may be not what they want, however if people (the same people who are members of Rotary Clubs and have Afternoon Teas) prefer to travel by car, coach, train or shanks pony they should all be entitled to the same superior customer service, exceptional value and modern amenities and not treated as if they do not belong there. Last but not least special thanks to Ula, Kieran, Robert and Edin, who were always very polite and helpful. Just in case you are wondering, NO I will not be returning to the "Best Western" Royal Clifton Hotel and Spa. Southport. Collapse

Booked an afternoon tea for my mum and me and what an amazing day we had from the start! It was really straight forward making the booking with the hotel direct and the staff were really helpful asking if we had any special dietary requirements. on arrival the reception staff explained the parking situation and guiding us to the lovely lounge area where we would be eating. The lounge was nice and big and we had our own table reserved for us, the staff behind the bar were friendly and we did not have to wait long for our food. We absolutely loved the afternoon tea it had a great selection of cakes and the sandwiches were perfect my mum was so impressed. As it was my mums birthday I ordered a bottle of prosecco and the staff made a fuss over her which she loved. I would defiantly recommend this hotel for anyone looking to treat someone, the food and the staff were first class. We will be back soon. Collapse

This is a long story but I will cut it short. I bought the spa deal for two in January 2018 for £79.00 which included use of spa facilities a 55 min treatment afternoon tea and glass of fizz. I arranged to go on 28th Feb , a treat for my birthday . This was cancelled on the day due to the steam room being out of order . They said they'd ring me when it was fixed and didn't ! I rang eventually to rebook for 9th may , I recieved an email literally 4 days before asking if we'd like to re arrange as due to staff shortages they could do Half a treatment also jacuzzi out of order . Asking us to return for second half of treatment .No Way as we both had nearly an hours journey to southport . I obviously asked for a refund ! I got the impression that others were disappointed as I was told I was on a refund list . Wowcher arranging a refund but still advertising the Deal or No deal ! Collapse
