We liked the hotel very much. It is fresh looking and feels updated with art deco elements in our queen room. It was a small room, but nothing that felt cramped. I thought it well laid-out for our space, reminding me of hotels in London. There were no doors facing the street; aligned around courtyards covered with noise-cancelling indoor-outdoor matting. No fear of waking your fellow guests with your rolling bags. We did not experience any street noise. There are two elevators; one in the lobby and one to the garage. They have a restaurant bar off the lobby. Local beers - a favorite - Fort Point on tap. We ate breakfast there on Sunday morning; service was a little slow but attentive. The food was very good and recommend their Bloody Mary, if only to look at it. We did not have the experience of noticing homeless hanging right outside the hotel or other unfavorable experiences. Parking was $35 for one night. We took Uber around the City. Collapse
Beware of location

Really lovely hotel with great staff. Rooms are clean and the hotel is tidy. I read reviews that it was loud but I didn't think it was at all, just the occasional door slam which can't be helped. They offer a complimentary small snack type breakfast which I didn't use whilst I was there because one of the reasons I wanted to visit San Fran was to experience the different food available in the city but good that it was available. I was very sceptical for this hotel as many reviews warned about it's location and there's no sugar coating it, it's not great. Walking to market street in the day light was hard enough without being approached by multiple homeless people and one time we walked back in the night time and it was very unsettling and put us on edge. So for the rest of our time we made sure to either be in our room before it got dark or just to make sure we ubered back. I have no problem helping out people in need but it's not nice to have them approach you, make you feel uncomfortable or even follow you around in some instances and unfortunately this is what we experienced walking to the union square area from this hotel. I only went with my best friend so perhaps larger groups would feel more comfortable but as 2 young women the area did make us anxious. I'm not putting the hotel down for that though as there's nothing they can do about the area they are in but hopefully this will help someone that is thinking of staying there. If you're looking for a good base to explore the city and have access to uber then this is a great hotel. Ubers to the nicer areas don't cost much at all especially if there's more than one of you to split the cost so whilst the area is annoying it is avoidable. The hotel also has a free to use fitness room and pool, both small but not crowded. Collapse

I stayed in the Americania Hotel for two nights. Maybe not the best location to visit the city, but still you can find yourself pretty close to the BART (2 blocks to Civic Centre) and Market Street. I did know my way around the city, so that was not a big issue. I readed some bad reviews about the location and neighborhood...well, there are some homeless in the area, but I felt perfectly safe walking around. Anyway, I could understand why the people can feel uncomfortable walking around (this is commom in other areas of San Francisco) The rooms are big (for european standards) and the bed was comfortable. I have two good night's sleep. The location of my room was pretty good, since I did not have any noises to disturb me at night. Complementary continental breakfast is included, but there is also the option of having breakfast in a bar next to the lobby hotel. People in the front door were very friendly, and they took care of my lost luggage that arrive the next day I was there. Collapse
