Jane2020's damning review mentions our small wedding party including 8 guests, one of whom was me. I went into main reception and after looking around a few corners looking for the wedding party i was loudly summoned by the receptionist who demanded to know what i wanted. "The bar" says I. I had to ask him to repeat his answer twice because it was unintelligible but I eventually understood that he meant I had to go outside as the bar entrance was off the street. Bad start, he made me feel as if I had just been walked in on someone's shoe. After finding the bar, I paid £8.90 for a glass of wine and we all set about finding somewhere to sit. Eventually we found a place in the restaurant where we were within earshot of some very loud, obnoxious people who were sitting a few yards away. Lots of signs saying what no to do. Few offering positive messages. Altogether a bit of a downer after what had been a lovely day. BTW, this is my first ever bad TA review. Shame about that. Collapse

The hotel has strict rules who can stay in the lounge. At the end of a wedding, spent on the lake and at sailing school we wanted a quiet drink in the bar. My mum and her new husband, and 8 of their guest 2 of whom were residents were forced to sit in a loud bar at the back of hotel. The hotel staff have no spirit of occasion despite being asked if we could purchase a room in order to sit somewhere nice at the end of the day. Collapse

Pros friendly polite staff Decent swimming pool Decent snooker table Lovely food in bar, great pizzas Cons No parking, at nearly 200 quid a night, not happy about leaving car on street. Room, two beds pushed together, bunk beds small with no guard on top. Tvs small and buffering. Decent bathroom. All in all not worth over 180 a night, not at all. Still had a good stay though, all made better by the nice staff and good food. Collapse
Much better value to be found elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel for a friends wedding and with the need for a hotel in a very specific location booked immediately and well in advance, with regret. Whilst the hotel is ideally situated in Glenridding, the price of the rooms is astronomical for the quality that awaits you. Recent refurbishment to the bar and coffee shop (following the floods of 2015) mean the rest of the hotel has been somewhat left behind, particularly in the rooms where the 1970’s awaits you and not in a good way. Uncomfortable beds and many a noise coming from above, below and to the sides meant for two nights of very little sleep. There are plenty of amenities, a pool, snooker room and lounge, however, they all fall into the same category of the rooms, in need of some TLC. The whole hotel has a tired and dated feel. Breakfast was another disappointment both in terms of quality and wait. Both days involved a 30 minute wait for a cooked breakfast, despite there only being another 4 people in the restaurant at the time on morning 1. Full English was bland and had random items missing from what was advertised on both days, when we asked ‘should there be black pudding’ we got a shrug and ‘I’ll find out’............we are still waiting for the answer (which was yes, there should have been). The fish for breakfast was possibly the most uninspiring dish I’ve ever seen and was not ordered for day 2. From exploring other options for other hotels, B&B’s and hostels within walking distance, there is much better value to be found in Glenridding than The Glenridding Hotel I’d advise anyone to shop around as what you will pay to stay here does not come anywhere near the quality and comfort you will receive. I have stayed at this hotel previously, when it was a Best Western Hotel, and returned as the location is perfect, especially as we didn't need to use the car to go anywhere! The main areas of the hotel are very clean and well kept. Our room was clean however very small, it really doesn't need a bath in the bathroom and it would be better to have just a shower room in order to free up space in the bedroom. I had to duck every time I walked around to my side of the bed just to avoid hitting my head off the TV. For such a small space the room could have a better layout. On a personal note I didn't like the cheap plastic basket with the tea, coffee and milk in as it was grubby and outdated, and there really is no need to have a teapot, it just takes up more room on the desk. Everything laid out neatly on the small tray would look better. The pool/sauna area is very disappointing, it is very outdated and mixed use changing areas is really not good. The views from the pool out towards the fells is amazing and a refurbished area with some furniture to relax would be lovely to entice guests to relax after a long day walking. I would think that this would certainly encourage more people to use the hotel. The 'games' area is dead space and could be incorporated in to the 'wet area', or used to provide separate changing areas and a steam room or bigger sauna. Overall I would return to this hotel as the staff are helpful and friendly and the location is perfect. Collapse
