Booked this hotel mainly because of the spa area and swimming pool. Our room on the third floor was okay apart from the bedside lamps that if you didn’t get them on at the first try had a habit of turning off! and had wonky shades. Went to eat in the Brasserie but due to staff shortages there was a 45 minute wait, went to pub instead. Front staff very helpful and friendly as were breakfast staff apart from one morning it was chaos,to many people at one time. Couldn’t use the pool or spa as I’ve slight mobility problems, no access to pool,Very disappointed. This wasn’t stated anywhere. Collapse

This hotel clearly has clearly added to its fortune through its spa, and day visitor trade. What they have failed to take on board is how that detracts from the experience of the hotel guest. From the fact that there is nowhere to park during the day, to the insufficient staffing levels in the restaurant for the influx of staffing guests, they are clearly trying to fit too much onto the site. The secondary nature of their overnight trade is re-inforced when you get to the bedrooms. You move from the lovely boutique interiors into rooms that clearly have their origins in the 80s and 90s, from calming greys and greens to dark wood and scary red. Collapse

The bedroom was large with a large shower room/toilet with sliding door just off it. We were right next to the lift which was quite noisy in the morning. The shower was not working correctly & flooded the toilet area. Breakfast was served in an old fashioned style from chafing dishes but most of the items being served were cold- the staff did offer to reheat the items! we declined. The spa was ok but really needed to be checked more regularly by staff as there was lots of clumps hair in the pool area. Good location for town & the beech. The staff were very helpful & friendly especially the trainee receptionist on our arrival Collapse

We arrived after having booked a double room with balcony. The hotel is advertised as a 4 star property. The room was small and quite dirty. The bathroom was obviously for wheelchair access and the sink very low. There was no bath just a large shower area. We wNt to the pool which was pleasant until we found clumps of hair floating in the hydrotherapy pool. We then noticed clumps of hair on the walkways surrounding the pool. We decided to leave. We found Blakes to have a limited menu and over priced. The brasserie was bland and unappealing so we decided to eat out. In the morning we were unable to shower- the shower head was filthy and broken. When the shower was on the water shot out in all directions and quickly flooded the bathroom and toilet area, We went for breakfast and the staff were helpful. We were offered coffee and toast plus the continental breakfast. We had the coffee and decided to have just the cooked breakfast. We went up to see what was available and were disturbed that we were unable to serve ourselves! We had to ask which items we wanted. we sat to begin our breakfast which wAs cold. We advised the waitress and she asked if we would like it reheated!!!! Dangerous if nothing else. We declined On departure we advised the receptionist of our disappointment. She refunded our breakfast cost but nothing for our disappointing room and shower This is a hotel that should not have 4 stars. We weren't told of the noisy building work next door . We wouldn't want to visit again Collapse
