Both my wife and I, more so myself, have mobility problems and because of this I telephoned earlier in the day to check there was a lift as stairs are very difficult for both of us and carrying luggage upstairs is an impossibility. The lady I spoke to could not have been more helpful. She arranged, with there being no lift, for us to have a ground floor room, the nearest one to reception, which was suitable for our needs. Getting in and out of the bath was fine, and there was a grab handle to help pull yourself upright. A shiny metal handle looks nice but doesn’t have the same grip as one with a rubberised cover. I had to dry my hands and make sure I’d wiped the handle before attempting to lift myself up. Another handle, vertical and on the same wall, would also be helpful when using the shower for maintaining balance and when getting in. Eighteen months ago I would never have considered any of this but we are now more aware. Turning over in the bath is difficult for us both but you can’t expect any hotel to change the bath for you. Unless perhaps you’re royalty! The top priority for an overnight stay is a comfortable bed and both of us had a good nights sleep. Our room was at the front of the hotel facing a busy main road and we never heard a thing. Every member of staff we met, including the night porter who supplied us with milk and coffee at 6.30am, was first class. Very friendly, cheerful and efficient. Now for the despite: We found it difficult to find the car park which itself is quite small and accessed via a backstreet at the rear of the hotel. Having seen the hotel immediately we then drove round for ten minutes with our satnav continually telling us “you have arrived at your destination” but was telling us this on the main road. Apparently you should select “Lucky Lane” which is the name of the back street. This would not prevent us returning but is something to be aware of. Where to park if the car park is full is not immediately obvious. We did not enjoy dinner. Our starters were fine, as was my dessert, and the bottle of wine. We both chose the roast beef and Yorkshire pud. The beef was tasteless and tough. Difficult to cut even with the sharper knife I requested. The Yorkshire pud was very dry and also difficult to cut. The roasted potatoes were also undercooked for what we expected. Sometimes this happens. It is what it is. We explained to the waitress when she came to take the dessert order and I’ve no doubt she reported it to someone. It would have been nice, and we expected, for someone senior to arrive, inquire what had made us unhappy, and merely apologise. The dinner issue is our only complaint and is so heavily outweighed by all the good things we have still awarded a five. ⭐️ We wanted to be on our way so didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment in that regard. Working around the corner in Banbury, this was a good choice to stay. Booked through booking.com for only £60 for a night, it appeared good value. Parking around the back which was almost full when I rocked up about 7 30pm. Simple and friendly check in and given room 209. Downstairs is a recently renovated restaurant and bar and I felt it was a promising start. Unfortunately my room on the second floor left a lot to be desired. Though clean, it felt dirty. The wallpaper is coming away at the seams (I am a decorator) and us probably 10-15 years old or poorly put up. The bathroom was a furnace. I turned the radiator to low but the heat was unbearable. The room was cosy and had everything else you wanted in it but was lacking due to the dated decor. I slept with the window open but struggled. I left early so didn't have breakfast. I did use the bar in the evening and the staff were friendly also. I was going to mention my reservations on departure but the guy in reception didn't ask whether I had a good stay, so I didn't bother. Nevertheless I would stay here again, not 209! Enjoy Collapse

The hotel is nicely located but it is not suitable for anyone who has any disabilities who cannot climb stairs as there are no lifts. Rooms are clean and staff are good with excellent food. We were on coach trip and the access for coaches at rear where parking is located is very difficult. Plenty of parking for cars though. Quite steep steps at front onto main road where you can walk down into town centre - just short distance away. Rooms at front of hotel facing road will have road noise - so be aware. Had enjoyable stay though. Collapse
