Great location. Comfortable and clean, if a tad "dated"

Steps from the beach. Boutique hotel in a cool area on South Beach (SOFI). Helpful staff. Rooms relatively large and clean. Hotel feels a bit "dated", but overall pretty good value for the price. Would consider returning.

Marcelo the Manager, disrespectful and unprofessional

I normally don't leave bad reviews but I would like to express the experience we had on March 17-March 19, 2019. Upon arrival we checked in at 5pm and we were given a dirty room. Their website specified check in is at 4pm. Housekeeping did not get to our assigned room ”yet”. We were comped on the resort fee for the inconvenience and would be placed in another room but it was not an ocean front view which was originally booked on our reservations. We were told our room will be ready for us when we came back from lunch the next day. We ”checked out” at 12pm, went to lunch and returned at 230pm. We were told our room was ready and they offered to upgrade our room. We went to our new room for the second time and the room was dirty again. We went back downstairs to tell them the room was dirty and they told us we had to wait for them to clean it. We waited until 430pm. We asked to speak with a manager (Marcelo) on duty to explain the situation and to express our frustrations. We had to cancel our plans since we did not have a room to change and get ready. We had to sit in the lobby until the room was cleaned since our child was getting tired. When we spoke with the manager he spoke with a demeaning manner and insisted we misunderstood the terms of what ”check in” means. I tried to explain to him the specifics of the conversation that was had between the front desk and was told our room will be ready when we returned. He kept saying we didn't understand what ”check in” means and we are not guaranteed a room until after 4pm. He claimed his receptionists would never tell guests a room will be ready by a specific time, since there is no guarantee. He did not try to hear what we were trying to explain and kept cutting us off. He even said, ”hold on, I'm speaking” and ”no, you really don’t understand”. He was very rude and insensitive to our situation. We asked if he could compensate a night so we could do our plans that was canceled. He denied our request and said there is nothing more he could do. As a manager, someone who is representing the company should not have spoken to us the way he did. He did not apologize for any inconveniences but rather shifted the blame of the situation on us. Me personally, if I knew a guest went through an inconvenience during check-in firing the first stay and they has to be relocated to another room I would have made sure a room would have been ready. Marcelo’s speech of ”check the website, it specifies check-in is at 4pm, even if its a room relocate” is unacceptable. As a manager you are suppose to manage. Manage housekeeping to have a room ready so the guest can feel appricated and thought of and not sit in the back room having us wait. He did not once come out to check on us while we waited, until we asked to speak with him. We felt disregard because our point was not being understood. The receptionist in the front desk and the bellman (Kaylee and Miguel) did try their very best to accommodate us which we did appreciate. However, the overall experience was an inconvenience and the manager’s disrespectful, unprofessional and incapability has left us to leave this review and we will not book with them ever again. We booked a penthouse suite with a 500 sq foot private terrace. When we arrived, all seemed well. Our room wasn't quite ready yet, so we waited on the (very loud) porch just off of the front desk. Once our room was ready...surprise surprise, we were booked into a 2nd floor 1 bed, city-view room. Even though we had booked and paid for a penthouse suite. The person at the front desk said that they would be refunding the "resort fee" which is for towels at the beach. Once we accepted our fate, the room was a reasonable size, but the bed was uncomfortable and the noise from the street meant that we had trouble sleeping. We ended up needing to use our phones as white noise machines in order to sleep at all. Too many raucous partiers outside. Collapse
