Visited as part of a family birthday weekend treat with two children aged 9 and 11 years. A mixed experience. The hotel facilities were good - a session with the golf pro and also a visit to the hotel spa were enjoyable and excellent value. But woken several times in the night by revellers returning to their rooms and the Sunday breakfast was poor. Although the food was fine, it was ruined by being seated amidst tables that had not been cleared, being ignored by waiting staff and then surrounded by what appeared to be a very hungover stag/golf party. My partner and I stayed for 1 night to celebrate a birthday on a Wowcher deal. The hotel is beautiful, lovely grounds, stunning decor in the reception and bar area. We had 4 meals in the time we stayed, plus used the gym, pool, spa and massage. Bedroom: We upgraded to a Double Double which was a really good sized room, 2 double beds, desk, armchair, and lovely modern walk-in shower. The only issue we found was that there was no a/c, just a fan, so this might not be sufficient in a hot summer. We would have liked to have opened the windows overnight to let in the fresh cool air, but due to a noisy event downstairs and people outside talking just below our room, we had to keep the windows closed. Otherwise a very nice room, with tea, coffee, Nespresso, shampoo, conditioner and body wash included. Breakfast: There were signs saying at weekends they get very busy between 9-10am so we went to breakfast at 8.30am and it was fairly quiet. But from about 9.30-10.45 the queue was far out of the door and it took people a long time to be seated. There was a great selection of food: cereals, fruit salads, yoghurt, fruit juices, pastries, bread sticks, a few cold meats, and the full selection of cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, poached/scrambled/fried eggs), baked beans, mushrooms, toast etc etc They come to take your order of tea, coffee, hot chocolate at the table. Afternoon tea: The bar area is very nicely done, lovely oval bar with glass ceiling to really open it up and let in the light. 3 tiers of afternoon tea, with unlimited sandwiches, hot drinks (including huge hot chocolates!) and fruit juices. We ordered the Champagne afternoon tea, so we got one glass of champagne, glass of fruit juice, and good selection of teas. The sandwiches were quite small long rectangle soldiers with thin fillings, but you can get unlimited refills of these ! We had ham, egg, cheese&onion, salmon, and cream cheese. The next plate was 2 hot scones and slice of banana bread per person - ordered on request so they come out nice and hot - with butter, clotted cream and jam. Final plate is a selection of cakes, with some interesting choices - one we couldn't decide if it was sweet or savoury, a bit strange, and another piece was fruit cake. Very nice surroundings, good service, and a nice experience, but I'm afraid the food was not outstanding, and some strange choices of cakes ! Dinner: Included in our overnight deal was £20pp credit for dinner in either Sam's Clubhouse or Rocco’s italian. Sams seemed very nice, and had good views over the golf course, but is quite loud being a sports bar with TVs showing sports. The food was also quite pricey so the £20 would not have gone very far with a basic burger and chips costing £16.50. We reserved a table at Rocco’s and had a nice meal of 3 mains and 1 dessert to share between us for just under the £40 credit allowed. Mains are around £10-12 each, and desserts around £4 so you get more for your money there. Sunday Lunch: This was the best meal we experienced during our weekend, very good value for money. You get 3 courses, each one is self-serve buffet style, so you can choose exactly what you want. For starters they had soup & bread, and a large selection of salads, pasta, potatoes, cold meats/fish etc. Mains were a choice of chicken, beef, gammon, fish, pasta, with the biggest yorkshire pudding I've ever seen, with a huge selection of veg - carrots, peas, roast and new potatoes, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, and all the sauces you could want. And finally for dessert, there was a large selection of very nice cakes, mousse, fruits etc Spa: Extremely busy at 3-5pm on Saturday afternoon. A lot of spa guests, the swimming pool and steam room were full, all loungers were taken and the 2 Jacuzzis were rammed full so it was not a relaxing, enjoyable experience. The saunas are within the changing rooms, so separate men and women so you cannot go in with your partner. We had booked to have a 60-min hot stone massage, and were shown into the Relaxation room beforehand which was very nice - lots of different seating/lounging areas, fruit, lemon water etc. The hot stone massage was very nice and relaxing, but unfortunately my treatment room was right next to reception so I could hear quite a lot of noise and conversations throughout my treatment. We used the pool/spa area again on Sunday morning 10-12 and it was much more relaxing, quiet and enjoyable. I also used the gym which was very impressive - very large, lots of cardio machines, weight machines, free weights, kettle bells, medicine balls, floor mat area etc. There is also a separate cardio machine room downstairs in addition. They also have a large modern spin room with a lot of virtual spin classes, as well as a separate studio for instructor-led classes as well as virtual classes too. Collapse

I will never recommend the Belfry for any reason. I bought this deal for my partner for Christmas as a treat after an awful year, and spent the whole time apologising for the whole experience. I have honestly not had such awful food for a long time. And with a bill of over £70.00 for soggy chicken with an onion and cucumber salad. The breakfast and dinner were both inedible. The service was awful, especially in the 'Italian restaurant' which any Italian I know would have been maddened to know was being linked to their incredible cuisine in any way. I was embarrassed to call it his Christmas present and was mortified that Id spent so much on what was meant to be a luxury night away. I will certainly not return to the Belfry and will do my best to make sure none of my friends or family waste their money either. I'm disappointed at your response to the worst review I've have ever given and the first complaint I have made to a place I've stayed. Collapse
