The Beatriz playa and spa we visited last week..the hotel is very dark and dingy and needs serious renovation...luckily we had a lovely room on the top floor which had beautiful sea views and sunsets...this turned out to be it's redeeming feature...the food was quite good and no complaints for that...the entertainment was poor with singers out of tune...quiz night and bingo night and parrot show all only lasting 1 hour....the piano bar had acts on as well but equally poor and drinks there we had to pay even though we were all inclusive...the Chinese buffet was nice and had to be pre booked at reception..although the food was good it was limited choice..no chicken and sweetcorn soup or prawn toast and food corner badly arranged and cramped...the spa was 12 euros Monday and Wednesday and for 2 hours we used the facilities..the spa was lovely but hardly any steam in steam room...the area outside the hotel is beautiful ..lovely walks you can also hire bikes and go either into Puerto del Carmen one way or playa honda the other...the pools were lovely although one was cold..the weather unfortunately was cloudy with few showers the spa indoors was a blessing...will visit again maybe not in January...also my biggest complaint was the lack of no smoking areas..everywhere stank of cigarettes and the design Of the hotel meant it filtered up from the open plan area below up to our room...the doors to the bar and entertainment area were open to the seating outside where lots of people sat smoking so there was nowhere to go to get away from the stench...the Beatriz burger bar opened sat and sun and we went into it as we arrived..the burgers were awful processed pink meat that passed for chicken it looked more like s spam burger.immediately went in bin..glad main buffet restaurant was.a lot nicer... Hotel is clean and tidy but design and decor is dated. Some rooms are renovated, which is an improvement, some are not. Rooms in the vicinity of the bar/nightly entertainment are very noisy between 8pm and midnight. Cleaners start early and make a good deal of noise when cleaning adjacent rooms. Cleaning staff drag furniture across the tiled floors rather than lifting it and as such generate a lot of noise. Ear-plugs are a must if planning to sleep before midnight or after 8am. Hotel services in the Beatriz are designed to frustrate rather than accommodate. Pay 10eur to rent a pool towel, 20eur for Wi-Fi and 21eur for a safety deposit box. Dinner with half board option does not include drinks not even tap water (based on waiter who charged us for water). No water available in lobby or common areas to a refill a water bottle. Staff are generally professional but not friendly. A certain staff member lacked basic good manners to wait for a response when knocking on our door. She knocked once and immediately entered our room, no introduction and no apology. The reason; to check that we only had 2 pillows. No explanation. The beds are uncomfortable and all mattresses are covered with a waterproof mattresses protector. These make the beds noisy when moving around during the night. Main restaurant is located in the basement and is not a place where you want to spend much time. Eat fast and get out. The pool side restaurant is a much nicer space, where you would actually like to spend time but sadly its only open 3 mornings each week for breakfast and only between 9 and 10.30. Breakfast served between 8-10:15 in main restaurant. Outdoor pools are not open until 10am, close at 6pm and gym only opens at 9:30. You can feel restricted by these opening hours but as long as your schedule matches the hotel you’ll be ok but if you are a morning person or a night owl you might be in trouble. On the whole our experience was ok but the little things matter and they all add up to a less than ideal experience. Collapse

We had another lovely break in the Beatriz we had a room with a fantastic sea view with a walk in shower and the shower. Breakfast was fresh with eggs cooked to order Lunch at the pool bar lovely as was dinner in the main dining area each evening had different meats and fish all cooked infront of you there was a wide variety of drinks on offer we were all inclusive and were very happy. We are repeat guest and had the luck fortune of winning a 5 night stay for a return visit which we are very much looking forward to. The addition of guest relations is a lovely touch and the animation team are great for getting people involved if they want to join in the activities. There were 3 soul singers on the last night of our stay and they were just fantastic ended the holidays on a high note. Roll on Next January for our 9th visit. Valerie & Ronan Collapse

I have passed this fabulous looking hotel over the past few years, with its fantastic sea front views and always wanted to stay there. So this year I decided to book it as a treat. But boy was I let down with a bang. On arrival the reception area was amazing but that’s where it stopped. I had booked with “Click and Go” and was given a lovely sea view facing the airport side. Which I was really happy to hear but the room was far from luxurious, far from even standard. The walls were filthy, the beds were tatty and all the furniture looked like it was pulled from a skip. A standard room is substandard. When I complained to reception, I was informed renovated rooms had an extra charge of almost €200 for a week. So I had no choice other than upgrade. The renovated room to me was just a normal standard room and not worth an extra charge. Thinking it couldn’t get any worse, I went for dinner, food was terrible but plenty of it. Half board doesn’t include WATER. Same thing every day over and over. This hotel is in a time warp. 1980s were great in the 80s. So if your reading this and always wanted to stay here just don’t. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. There’s fantastic places to stay in Matagorda as I have stayed in some of them before and should of stayed in them this time too. Collapse

Travelled with family in November to Lanzarote and really liked the hotel. It had a few bad points but name me a hotel that doesn't, and nothing spoils my holidays anyway. Tell management and only make a fuss if nothing is done. Otherwise, shhhhhh!!! Hotel was clean and very spacious - I had one of the unfurbished rooms but it was twice the size of the furbished rooms so didn't mind. nice big bathroom just for me - and a fridge for my booze and juice. Phone was great to gauge when the rest of the crew were ready to go to breakfast and dinner, great big balcony-big enough for a party. Cleaning staff were lovely and always greeted you in the corridors while they went about their work. Reception staff were very helpful and friendly - until I demanded a refund for the 7 days of wi-fi that we had paid for that only worked for one day - They can't argue with a Scottish girl who has evidence. ;) However, they were very apologetic when they realised I was right and I was not backing down - and they couldn't argue with the evidence in hand. Location; perfect spot, beach just out front(very quiet), short trip from the airport(anyone who complains about the planes needs shot- book a hotel that's not next door then idiots) shops close by, nice promenade out front both ways for miles. The food was amazing - think I ate my body weight in steak, chicken and Paella- huge choice for all meals - became a bit samey by the second week but really don't have any complaints - and staff in the dining room were very friendly - I just felt sorry for them with some of the ridiculously rude customers they had to deal with - Manners were left at home - I worked for a long time in the service industry and I would have told them where to go.(and I did a couple of times in defense of the staff) Also, some of the dress sense at lunch time left little to the imagination - too much flesh when they could have covered up - I'm no Victoria's Angel but I have always dressed for my size(now 12-14, but formally 20 at the beginning of last year), but some of the customers didn't even look in the mirror to see what we all had to avoid in our line of sight. Put some clothes on people, I'm trying to eat!!!! HAHA But to be fair, a simple dress code for all mealtimes should be set (tops must be worn, no bikinis, etc)- always happens in other supposed 4 star hotels. The pool area was good - clean and tidy - plenty sunbeds even though a few more need replaced - pool bar was a bit sparse on variety of drinks - but once we discovered the Prosecco behind the bar was all inclusive - done deal - also the sangria was my go to drink, lovely. Some of the staff were a bit miserable but those who were nice and friendly and helpful were thanked continuously. Would be nice if the Pool Bar was open longer in the evening as the bar inside was awful - full of hammered parents with babies - unsupervised children sitting about on phones/tablets all until midnight, 2am - 3am in the morning and sooooo noisy. Entertainment was a waste of time - this really needs to be looked into for the future. Examples: 1)Bingo Night- given one game/bit of paper and a toothpick to stick through the numbers - one full house - one winner - entertainment finished EH? 2)Movie Quiz night - 1 person at a time asked on the stage(about 15 in total), asked a question and given a bottle of cheap plonk if they were right - what about the rest of us and giving out a load of questions and see who got the most right -like a NORMAL quiz night!!! again, EH? 3) singers- out of tune and on stage for an hour- if that. Never bothered with it - but you could hear from our rooms - and down the street. Never bothered with any other entertainment as it never lasted long and there was just disco music and a rowdy mass of idiots after that. My biggest concern was the amount of plastic glasses, staws etc just chucked in the bin with no regard for recycling - if there is no effort made to recycle then you need to consider reuseable containers - maybe it's more washing up but most guests would actually consider taking their glass to be refilled instead of chucking it(we did this a few times - sometime the bar staff obliged-sometimes they took the glass off us and replaced it with a new one - I was not happy when they did this) Please think about the effect on the environment(especially the oceans- you have one on your doorstep for goodness sake) as you are quick enough to remind guests to reuse towels for the sake of the environment !!!!!!!!! Overall,I had no real issues that ruined my enjoyment of my holiday - I've never met another Scottish person that WILL let anything get in the way of their Holiday - get on and enjoy it. I just want to point out areas of improvement and I'll be back next year to see what has been done. See you then!!!!!!! Collapse
