This venue is not really a place to stay for leisure, although it has a quirky Sharm. The venue is mainly for weddings; almost exclusively for weddings. We were here for a family wedding which was planned forth Saturday. The venue is ideally setup for this kind of event, lots of different bedrooms at varying prices, large well maintained grounds, and great bar/ food option in the Stable bar/grill. The bedrooms are quirky and dressed in an old style; please remember that this venue is old and the furniture is designed around the house. Breakfast in the Stable bar is excellent; in fact some of the best hotel food I have eaten anywhere in the world. On both days we eat breakfast the food was equally good both days. The wedding was managed with military precision and went catered for in all respects. The food at the wedding breakfast was again som of the best I have eaten, well cooked, large (very large) portions, and plentiful. My only issue was the slightly over priced drinks which was sad more than angering. Overall a great venue; certainly if you’re looking for a wedding venue, this should be at the top of your list. Stayed here as part of a wedding party Luckily we got ready before leaving home as when we got there we were told we could not go to the room until 3pm ( wedding started at 2pm) Reception said they would speak to housekeeping when they came back from lunch and update us . No one came back to us which was disappointing. The room was a Delux Double £120 special rate Finding the room was difficult as it’s like a rabbit Warren. Corridors and stairs snaking round ( not the best experience. Eventually at room , furniture was very nice bathroom clean everything white although clear glass in the windows which were almost full length needs to be addressed. We could also hear people in other room so not very sound proof View from the room was a real disappointment sick beautiful grounds and what do we see = a roof and a yard full of beer gegs. Breakfast was included which was excellent Lots of choice from a Buffett style table. Fruit yogurts cereal, pastries the hot breakfast was ordered separately, service excellent All in all I have given them a 4 because of the waiting staff and the furniture in the room. View from the room would have been a 2 Collapse

Food was not the best and staff were not the friendliness! Lovely rooms and location.. drinks over priced. Was at a wedding here... think it could improve. Grounds are lovely and the winter room nice. 1 horrible rude man on the bar in the evening

First time with Best Western and I would like to say BEFORE I post this review that we have been extremely lucky enough to stop in some of the countries leading hotel brands/suites but newly retired saw this deal and thought we would give BW a try especially as it is only a stones throw to Beamish Museum one of our bucket list things to see. Yes rooms are dated (as per one review) as it clearly states in the hotel literature the rooms are in keeping with the historic grandeur of the hall itself and devoid of flatpack furniture, but they were exceptionally well serviced and spotlessly clean and comfortable. Wow wow and wow again what a beautiful place!! All the staff were knowlegeable helpful and super friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them - every single one of them - what a quite brilliant team. The breakfasts were superb, excellent service and good quality ingredients, even the little touches had been covered. The Stables bar did some very reasonably priced food and drinks cheaper than a bog standard city centre fast food chain and far superior sitting in the most pleasant, relaxed surroundings. The hotel and gardens itself is like being on the set of Downton Abbey, steeped in historic value and the most beautiful grounds, gardens and woodland with the Alice in Wonderland theme. It was such a beautiful place and so well run with the best teamwork among the staff I have seen in a long while. The guests took priority and were made to feel both welcome and important. Overall we were absolutely delighted and thrilled with our stay and cannot thank all the hard working staff enough for making our stay as exceptional and memorable as it was. Thank you Best Western for such a lovely experience and sharing such an historic and beautiful country hall with us. We will definitely return in the future! Collapse

Stayed one night before heading to the Beamish Living History Museum. Good location for this purpose. Pros: Nice gardens Good area for a walks Nice restaurant Cons: Rooms are dated with uncomfortable beds If a wedding is going on, the wedding takes priority and areas are closed off Warnings: We booked this hotel from America. In America, a Best Western includes breakfast. That is not the case in Beamish. The drive to the hotel is a bit of a dirt road that seems like it is going nowhere. Keep going. Not sure how hot it gets in the summer but there is no AC. Collapse
