Efficient check-in, with a most welcome upgrade. Reception and concierge staff were all attentive and effective. Nice bathroom, window opened onto courtyard, so no noice from the street. My room was pretty close to the lifts, but this caused no disturbance. My highlight was the champagne breakfast on the terrace, morning sun on my back, church bells ringing. If you're happy with tea and toast for breakfast, go for the à la carte option, or you'll pay €40 for the buffet breakfast. Equally, when travelling with kids, you may want to order from the menu for them (unless your kids are of champagne drinking age). If you're not vigilant, you can pay €160 for breakfast for a family of 4, while consuming very little. Hm.... When I was seated, I was not offered a menu, the automatic presumption being that I was heading for the buffet. More lucrative for the hotel, less work for the staff, of course. More attention needs to be paid to replacing the bottles of bubbly on time. I was faced with not just one, but two empty champagne bottles in the ice bucket. This was rectified quickly, but still. The location works great for me, being just across the road from my beloved Lodenfrey, and an easy walk to many important sights, restaurants and delicatessen, designer shops, and a short walk to the sightseeing bus stop. I will stay there again, if I can get a good room rate on a last minute basis. Collapse

I think it's a very nice hotel but it might be a bit overpriced. It is is enormous with two very fine restaurants plus another one for breakfast on the 6th floor. The service is very professional and the ambience is great.

We stayed at another property in Munich in March and came to the roof-top bar at Bayerischer Hot for drinks. My husband immediately fell in love with the pool and sun deck/terrace. Therefore, we booked the hotel for this past trip to Munich. I understand that lounger availability is not guaranteed but to sell day passes to locals on weekends and holidays preventing hotel guests from access to the facilities does not seem right. In two days, we were unable to use the pool/terrace once. In one instance, I asked a woman if the second chair at her table is free and she went off on us stating that she paid Euro 45 and she will not share her second chair with us! The pool staff turned their back and did not want to get involved. Very disappointing! In addition, we had issues with the following: -AC not working properly -loud humming sound of some mechanical system or water flowing through old pipe -room not clean - spider webs around headboard, lamps, curtains & windows; shower door stained; hair in tub; trash underneath chairs -preferences not set up at arrival - only upon request -shower overflowing due to drain not being cleaned -old fruit amenity, peach was already rotten - not sure how long that amenity sat in the room -staff at Concierge and Front Desk not very attentive and welcoming - always looking down, talking to each other, guest is always the one who has to initiate contact. This never happens at The Mandarin Oriental or Charles hotel. -never a doorman to assist with taxis or directions -breakfast food - quality poor, staffing inattentive, talking amongst themselves, I asked one server, but she couldn’t be bothered and send someone else to our table Before departure, one of the Front Desk agents asked us to share our experience with FO management. Yet, no one brought us to the door and properly said good-bye, no doorman was available for luggage or transportation assistance. They completely missed the one chance to recover and turn us into repeat guests! Collapse

Shame the nightclub wasn't open as it looked great. Bars and pool area very good. We only ate in the Polynesian restauarant because rain was too heavy to venture out. Superb location to base yourself with everywhere a short walk. Drinks and breakfast expensive, although we didn't realise we could have had champagne at breakfast. Cheaper option of the rooftop terrace. Both have fabulous views. Rooms all individual, ours was excellent with a four poster, perhaps we were upgraded without realising? Collapse
Not going to return.

We were very excited to stay in the "Institution of Munich", and we were very disappointed with this very expensive hotel. 1. On arrival - reception was crowded, we waited for at least 10-15 minutes to be greeted. The lifts were very slow and at some point there was a crowd of about 20 people waiting for the lifts. 2. On a couple of occasions the said lifts did not work - we met a number of people who also experienced this. You get into the lift, press the button, apply your key, press the button again... Nothing happens. 3. No ironing board. What?? 4. No tea/coffee making facilities. What??? When I called reception to ask for tea-making facilities (kettle, cups, tea-bags), they asked: "How many bags do you want? Because we charge for each tea-bag." WOW! Come on! You are charging so much for one day in your hotel, and then charge for a tea-bag? Petty, inconsiderate, super greedy, shameful! You need to re-consider. 5. On check-in, my partner immediately wanted to have a shower. What do you know, the shower was blocked because previous guests (Middle Easterners favour this hotel) poured coffee remains into the shower. We were told this is a frequent occurance. The management knew about this, and yet they allowed us to check-in with no warning. Of course, the engineer was called and the blockage cleared. But what a gift on arrival. NB: there was no real gift on arrival (like a bottle of wine or something similar). 6. Turn-down service left dirty towels in the bath-tub. Not replaced. 7. Super noisy air-con. But yeah, they cover glasses with a piece of branded paper. Thanks. Breakfast was very good, but they charged a child full EURO40 per each day of breakfast. You are welcome. On departure I asked concierge if they have some bottled water - nope. Collapse
