We stayed here over new year and it’s a great hotel. Amazing views, quite expensive but relight in the center of Edinburgh on pricess street near everything. Staff were nice, horrible French restaurant downstairs would reccomend going there, unless u want yuck food and to be hungry the whole night and out of pocket. Overall I would say this is the best hotel in Edinburgh. Collapse

I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay at the Balmoral. This was a last minute booking for a holiday weekend when my original plans elsewhere in Europe fell through. It was very much a treat to stay at a five star hotel; the staff were warm and accommodating throughout. I forgot how nice it was to enjoy a - legitimately - king-size bed. Housekeeping staff came by twice daily for touch-up and turn-down, impeccably served. I was very much happy to see that my suite not only included a hairdryer, but also that it was available in the bathroom adjacent to a mirror, unlike so many other British hotels. The bathtub was almost too big, something I've never experienced. I also thoroughly enjoyed the whisky bar, where I was able to enjoy a quiet drink with a book. Along with the hotel's unbelievably convenient proximity to Edinburgh Waverley Station, I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay here. Collapse

We travel widely in many countries around the world, and this is one of the best hotels in our decades of travel. It's fantastic on many levels: central to everything, at the edge of the Old Town and the New Town, easy walking distance to basically everything. We walked to and from the Castle, Leith, Dean Village, Stockbridge and more. I'm a light sleeper, and we asked for a quiet room. They recommended one of the interior rooms overlooking the courtyard (odd numbered rooms), and the room we got (409) was perfect. There was absolutely no traffic noise from outside, and no noise intruded from the hallway. Our room was large, with a king-size bed, two comfortable reading chairs, large desk (with a UK-EU/US adaptor), and very tall ceilings. We slept well: the bed was very comfortable, neither too soft nor too hard, the bedding (sheets) were high-quality and blackout curtains prevented light intrusion. The bathroom had a great soaking tub. I'm petite, but someone tall could stretch out quite comfortably in the tub. We arrived early and sat at the bar at the Brasserie while waiting for our room to be ready -- I had a pot of tea (several excellent loose-leaf teas are available) and my husband had a half-pint of ale -- we watched the bartender mix up a series of great cocktails. The breakfast is excellent, and the whisky bar is great. I haven't yet mentioned the spa, which is a treat. My husband went for a swim in the heated pool while I enjoyed the sauna. Treatments are available, as well as exercise equipment. And on top of all that, the people who work at the hotel, from the front desk, concierge, brasserie, whisky bar, breakfast room staff, spa, couldn't be nicer. The management must be doing something right, because all the staff seem very happy, and the customer service shines. We adored our two nights here, and recommend this lovely hotel without reservation. Collapse

I treated my wife for a night as her Birthday present and we were not disappointed. Greeted by Zoltan who could not have been more friendly or helpful and made a great start to our visit and was a great advert for the hotel. We had a lovely well appointed room with a large bed and an excellent bathroom. We had dinner in Number One restaurant within the hotel. An exceptional place with food and staff to match. The wine list had something for everybody and their purse. Wonderfully presented and explained the food was delicious and came with a few little extras. Another plus was not being continually asked if everything was okay. On leaving and paying the bill met up with Michael and his team at the desk a cheery group who made our leaving so sad.. Am looking forward to revisiting in the not too distant future . Well done all around. Collapse

I stayed at The Balmoral with a great friend I don't see often enough. It was a perfect location, minutes walk from Waverley Station. The arrival welcome and reception check in was seamless and bag swiftly brought up to the room. Service we experienced across all staff at The Balmoral was top class, and I couldn't find fault. Thank you for that and well done. We were upgraded to a King room, despite booking a highly discounted classic room. It was exceptionally clean and spacious, view wasn't great but I wasn't there for scenery so that didn't matter. Not long after arrival we decided to head to the spa. This is where the 5* standard drops. All spa staff encountered were extremely professional, welcoming and enthusiastic about their products so absolutely no criticism there; however the facilities were not 5* by any stretch. They require a complete overhaul. Changing rooms were basic, with broken electricals left for communal use. The fittings were worn and shabby in areas. In the actual pool, there were tiles broken across many areas and, grouting missing and just generally looked very tired. The sauna and steam room were also very basic and again not a 5* standard. We were lucky enough to be shown around the JK Rawling room - again I can't reiterate enough how fantastic the staff were for allowing this! All in all, we both throughly enjoyed our time there and would most definitely would return at the price we paid. However, if we had paid the usual price tag, I'd have felt very short changed. In short, room was lovely but nothing out of the ordinary, spa much to be desired, location fantastic! Collapse
