As I normally do, prior to booking this short break I checked out some reviews on Trip advisor. Being such a large hotel I expected to find lots of reviews and as expected they were in the main positive with some negative reviews or minor grumbles. I really did not need to worry. We arrived on the last day of Ramadan. This is a very busy time for the hotel and the next day the hotel was at capacity. However the staff were at all times attentive to your individual needs. More on that later. The hotel facilities are amazing and like most guests we used the water park and visited the aquarium. These are both free to hotel guests. A tip here for people who have not visited but have read that security are always asking for your I'D. If you keep your water park wristband on for the day then security will not bother you, as a hotel guest gets a coloured water park band that a day stripper does not. Hence it is very easy for security to identify a guest if they have their wristband on. We were on half board . When you check in reception will give you a list of the restaurants that are included in the half board package and will also advise as to the cost to use the other restaurants. We used the two buffet service restaurants and were apsoloutly delighted with the quality and variety of the options. They did get a little busy at times. However each day we booked with the restaurant we wanted to use and were never kept waiting. This is a very large and busy hotel and I would have expected to find the odd employee who did not quite give a 5 star level of service. However for the five days spent at the hotel not once was I not treated with a smile or good morning. Every single member of staff I dealt with went out of his or her way to help and at the same time be friendly. From the lovely masseuse Evangelina who looked after my wife, to our housekeeper who forgive me due to a technical reason with a room change I do not have his name. But for the benefit of the management he looks after room 7465. He was brilliant, friendly and left us a new towel animal everyday. Also a very big thank you to the gentleman on reception who arranged a new room at the drop of a hat due to problems with our neighbours on our last evening. This was no reflection on the hotel and they dealt with the problem in a very professional way.And to Tin who helped us change rooms with no fuss. There really is to much to explain about the facilities of the hotel. But I am sure that whatever you need , the staff and management will go out of their way to oblige. And really that is what I expect from a five star hotel. I would simply dismiss the grumblers who complain at the slightest thing and as a consequence mark this hotel down All in all a great experience and we will be coming back. Collapse
Too big and crowded - not the best value for money

We live in UAE for several years now and we have visited Atlantis in different occasions, with different purposes (conferences, tourist) but never stayed overnight. I wasn't very keen but my wife wanted the experience. So we decided last minute deal during EID holiday, 2 nights. The price ended up being about 900 dollars for two nights without breakfast in a Premium room. This didn't include breakfast, which we added for 100 more. A very expensive stay considering we've been to several other 5 star hotels here and we never paid that much. Ok, but it's EID and we wanted to check it out. Our stay was ok, not wonderful, considering the price. The hotel is very large so it can accommodate many guest. However you hit queues in several places. The check in took about 40 minutes. Despite having made my reservation online, so all my data was there, I was asked to put down my email and phone on paper and had to repeat a few things already specified online. Considering they are expecting crowds and had a large number of people the process seemed quite inefficient. The same impression in the crowded breakfast line, where we queued up and then data had to be checked and a ticket printed to be thrown away. The room was very spacious, king size bed, well kept, the bed was comfortable as were the pillows, the toilet was large with bath tub and separate shower. The mini bar was well stocked though we could open the lock in the mini fridge: we didn't care as we don't usually take anything. The balcony was small but enough for two chairs looking to the pool and the city which was a good view. But I would prefer the open sea view next time. The TV was ok, a bit small in the large room, it had streaming service with old movies for rent. The free TV didn't have almost any of the premium movies or series channels like other hotels, but free to air channels. There was a electric kettle with complimentary tea, and instant coffee. This was a let down, as other hotels have the Nespresso or similar machine in each room. All the food offered was overpriced. They have sort of a food court with smaller eateries were a shawarma costs 50 dirhams (15 dollars), and the burgers started from there up. Admittedly the burger was delicious, but I had to wait 20 minutes to order and 20 more to be cooked. Being at the hotel we used the water park which has an easy connection and golf carts take you back and forth. The park is nice though again the queues had us waiting 45 minutes for the fun rides. It's not the best water park around but if you pay extra ( quite a lot!) you get to swim with dolphins which makes it unique compared to the other water parks. We didn't. The aquarium is very nice and the entrance is free as a guest. The breakfast was another crowded experience lots of people queuing up to get a table. The quality was ok, not exceptional. It had a very large Asian, Japanese, Chinese food types which must be due to the large number of guest from Far East. Again we have seen better quality from other premium hotels with better prices. I guess what didn't satisfy me was the value for money: I could put up with the crowds and the lack of some other details for the right price, but this was not the case. So not exceptional. Collapse

I've stayed a few times at Atlantis over the years. It's massive and it's always crowded. Having said that, it's very well set up to cope with the crowds and the staff really do work their socks off to keep things moving. I have always paid extra to be on an Imperial Club floor, which means you get exclusive check-in and use of the Imperial Club lounge for various food presentations each day. This year, for the first time, I felt that so many rooms must have been appointed as 'Club' that the value of having this bonus is pointless. An example: we checked in at 2.50pm, just 10 mins before the suite was supposed to be ready. It was not ready, so the check-in staff directed us to the Club lounge for afternoon tea. On getting there, there was a queue of maybe 50 people snaking out of the club and down the corridor, and a waiter carrying canned soft drinks on a tray to appease the masses denied entry. You don't pay extra for this kind of thing. I'd also filled out the Imperial Club request form before arriving and my requests were ignored and the restaurant table not booked. I took this up with them and they said there was a computer glitch... really left me wondering, what's the point? Re the check-in: the lady was not at all apologetic that the room was not ready (shrug: 'we're busy') ; couldn't give me a ballpark time that it might be ready; and never sent the promised SMS to say that it was ready. In the evening, we thought we'd nip into the Club lounge for a drink: same story as teatime. Queue snaking out, and no chance of getting in before the happy hour ended. To be fair, Atlantis has made some changes to allow Club guests to use another restaurant for happy hour, but in my opinion you now have too many people trying to use too little space, and it is no longer worth it. Save your money. Positives: The free Aquaventure entry is obviously attractive, as well as the Lost Chambers, and the breakfasts at Saffron are really awesome - even though, again, we faced a queue of about 50 people to get in the door. In summary, if crowds don't bother you, go for it. There's a lot to do. But if they do... Collapse

I keep visiting Atlantis with my family every year to enjoy extended weekends and it has never disappointed me. From room size to water rides and service everything is near perfect. What needs to improve is perhaps the quality of food in room service (I tried veg options in India and Italian food). Staff is very professional and hospitable. Collapse
