My girlfriend and I stayed at smart aston court for three nights, having never been to derby. The hotel was very easy to find being opposite the train station and was only about a 8 minute walk from the town centre. I was worried that staying at a hotel near the train station may be noisy but we experienced a quiet atmosphere which was great. Westfield is great, it took us two days to fully experience the variety of shops and i'd happily visit it again. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast buffet was very nice. Hotel price was also very reasonable and would highly recommend. Collapse

It has been a few years since we last stayed at the Aston Court Hotel. Going back this time we could see any changes that had been done. The reception Area looked better and seemd to have been painted. The staff were new but just as welcoming and efficient. Our room this time was up on the top floor along the corridor around the stair case and down and along another corridor. It was quite funny tring to find it. However it as quite nice as it did not look over Midland Road and the traffic. We asked for a fan as it was very hot and I have breathing problems and the brought us one up. Bed was nice and clean. Only one lamp by the bed and it did seem a bit gloomy in the evening The nets at the windows were in need of a clean. One thing I dont like is the limited tea coffee and especially milk in the room. We were forever asking for more milk until we went out and bought a carton. Then as there is no fridge in the room we have to leave it on the window ledge at night. Not really very good. Dont expect room service at night n or in the late evening even if it says they do it. We could get any. Morning breakfast was buffet depending upon volume of people in the hotel (so were were told). We have had it cooked fresh for us in the past. This time the fried eggs had gone cold and the rest was only warm. As far as I am aware this is the only meal cooked in the Hotel as the rest are cooked next door at another Hotel Kitchen and brought across. But none of this stops us having a nice break there and coming back again. Collapse

Arrived Sunday afternoon to a warm welcome. Room fine but had no lights by the side of the bed. This was soon sorted by staff who gave us an extension lead and an extra lamp. Bed very comfortable and lovely large white fluffy towels, toiletries provided. Good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. Great location, gated secure parking, station just across the road. Ten minutes walk to theatre and several restaurants. If you like real ales go to Brunswick Inn, amazing selection of beers in lovely refurbed railway buildings five minutes from hotel. Go to the information centre and get a map and follow the history trail and don’t forget to visit the beautiful cathedral, small but beautifully formed so light and airy. Hotel is 30 minutes drive from Derwent valley Mills, do visit Cromford mill, get a short tour and learn all about Arkwright. Pick up an audio guide that takes you all around the village with some very interesting stories and stop and have a great lunch at The Boat Inn. All in all a fabulous short break. Would certainly recommend. Collapse

The positives: location, almost adjacent to the railway station, ten minutes easy walk to the intu shopping centre and city centre; cleanliness - my room was spotlessly clean; staff - everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. Less good aspects: some carpets and furnishings in public areas shabby. Chairs in dining room wooden with no padding - not comfortable. A good help-yourself breakfast selection (good sausage and bacon) let down by cold fried eggs (they need to be on a hot plate or under a lamp or perhaps cooked more often freshly.) I'm not sure why I didn't sleep well staying several nights, the bed was comfortable and bed linen perfectly OK. i suspect it must have been traffic or street noise though given the city centre location I suppose that is inevitable. .I have stayed in many worse hotels, and I rate Aston Court as reasonable value for money. However, i won't be rushing back. Collapse

Chose this hotel because of proximity to train station and the price. Staff friendly and very helpful. Facility a bit worn, but our room was clean and well appointed, and comfortable save for the awkward placement of the toilet. Since the hotel is 3 connected buildings, there are ups and downs everywhere. Easy walk to town center and sights. We had drinks and a lovely fresh pizza in the lounge. Delicious and nice service. Would definitely recommend if you want to be near the train and/or on a budget, but be warned that the area is a bit rough. Collapse
