We visited for 1 night and found the room to be perfectly functional and the staff were reasonably friendly but for the price paid for a double room, I thought there were a lot of negatives. The room was fairly basic and didn't have a fridge/mini bar. The breakfast was appalling - we couldn't even get a cup of tea/coffee because there was no-one to ask and when we eventually found someone, after finishing breakfast, they forgot. The choice of cereals / pastries and non cooked options was really basic - I have seen much better in a 3 star hotel. The hotel is a little rough round the edges and could do with some TLC/decluttering, to restore it to what I presume was its former glory but in a slightly more modern way..... There is a small spa with reasonably priced treatments but I do object to paying for a 1 hour treatment and then being left for 20 mins of that 1 hour to "relax". One other point is the location is neither here nor there, it's not really in Salthill or Galway so not that handy to walk to either, especially when it's raining. Having said that, the gardens and the setting are nice..... Collapse

We had our wedding reception at The Ardilaun on 11th August 2017. We live in Boston, MA and at first we were a bit nervous about planning a wedding in Ireland however from the first time we met Maureen Walsh, wedding planner at The Ardilaun back in May 2016 we knew we were in good hands and we immediately booked the hotel for our wedding reception. Maureen and her team went above and beyond our expectations over the 15 months from the time we booked up until and including the day of the wedding. A lot of our communication was through email over the 15 months and Maureen and her staff were very responsive and helpful in answering any questions we had, and we had quite a few:). Our wedding day couldn’t have gone any smoother. Maureen and her staff handled every detail regardless of how big or small. Many of our guests commented on how wonderful everything was including but not limited to; the setting of the hotel, the staff, the location, the gardens, the food, the guest room accommodations, etc... My new husband and I as well as many of our American guests stayed there the week leading up to the wedding and again everyone went out of their way to make our stay comfortable, enjoyable and stress free. A big shout out to of course to Maureen Walsh, John (one of the managers), Joe (one of the managers), the whole front desk staff (Amanda, Virginia to name a couple from memory), the reservations team (Catherine Boyd, Vanessa) as well as the staff of the pub/restaurant/wedding reception (Ronan, Grace, PJ, Jessica). I know I'm leaving out some names but everyone we encountered were so helpful and accommodating, pleasant and made our stay very enjoyable and our wedding the best day of our lives!! We can't recommend The Ardilaun enough whether it is for a pint, a bite to eat, a night away, or a place for a wedding reception. The Ardilaun will always be where we will stay when we are visiting Galway!! Oh and the Thai Green Chicken Curry in the pub and bistro was so good!! I had it almost every day I was there either for lunch or dinner!! Collapse

This was a wedding of a work colleague but we didn't stay here. So I can only comment on the general areas of the hotel and the food. The hotel itself is well situated for the city of Galway, a cheap taxi ride from the city centre. The bar is small but well presented and the lounge is comfortable. The function room was large and there was plenty of space to get around and importantly get to the bar. But I'm saving the best for last, the food. Well I've eaten in many restaurants and hotels and have attended many weddings but this food was outstanding. From the goats cheese tart starter to the heavenly creamy soup and then onto the beef, melt in your mouth beef, oh my God delicious. Topped off with a medley of desserts it was the finest fare I have tasted in a long time. If the hotel produces food of this standard on a regular basis then we'll done to the chef, you're a talent!! Our room was very comfortable. The air conditioning worked well. We enjoyed our ding experience at the hotel. The food was prepared well. Our waiter was very personable. He was from Portugal. I am glad we stayed here with our tour in June.
