We were 8 adults celebrating the 50th anniversary of our parents. We had booked a suite for our parents and it was roomy and nice. Minibar was included in the price but without clear information on how the system works. We were then told that you can drink all you want from the minibar once during your stay whether you stay for one night or for a week...that is a little weird. Hotel had set a card with anniversary wishes for my parents and some chocolate plus reserved a nice table for breakfast for the first morning. We thought that was sweet. The three other rooms we booked were Superior rooms. Those were not located close to the suite but in different floors and corners. This even though we sent a separate email to wish for the rooms to be as close to one another as possible. We learned that by booking Standard rooms (instead of Superior) it would have been possible to have them close. It would have been great if someone told us that in advance! The only difference between a Standard and Superior room is a coffee maker and bath robes. Some Superior rooms are also a little bigger. We then got Standard rooms upon request and were finally close to each other which was the whole point :-). We enjoyed the friendly service. Breakfast was very busy but good. Location of the hotel is not bad but the neighbourhood is really quite multicultural. Many great restaurants and kebab houses nearby and also metrostation very close. Not bad at all for a city break. Hamburg main railway station within 10 minute walk. Collapse

I have stayed at this hotel twice now, last January and this January. The hotel itself is about a five minute walk from the main train station. You have to walk through a bit of a sleazy area but this should not put you off, it’s quite safe. I have walked to and from this hotel at all times of day and night with my young family and have never had any trouble. Ok the good bits; the hotel is really nice, the rooms are spotlessly clean and have everything you need. One of our rooms was a suite (kind upgrade from the management) which was a beautiful room with a balcony. The gym is good, a bit small, but really nice with fresh fruit and water available. There is also a steam room and two saunas which are also really nice. Just be aware that there is no need to wear any clothes so you may get more than an eyeful! The bar is nice but we didn’t eat there so cannot comment on food. Now the bad bit. When I first stayed here I swiped my DEBIT card on arrival, as per normal, and paid cash when I checked out. It was only when I got home I found out my card had also been charged, so in effect I had been charged twice. I complained about this and eventually, after three weeks, got my money refunded. I also got offered the upgrade as per above. So when I returned this time I swiped my CREDIT card for the amount of the rooms plus €50each for mini bar and the likes. Within minutes the total amount had again been taken from my account, I purposefully checked given the events of last year. When it came to check out they tried to charge me the full amount again! I had limited my card so it could not take the payment. If I had not limited my card I would have been charged twice again. It took nearly an hour of me refusing to pay again to sort this matter out. The duty manager, who was very arrogant, insisted the initial payment was not taken despite me showing her the transaction on my phone. We were told to be quiet which again was disgusting. Eventually the manager had to refund our initially payment which took seconds and then we could pay. A total farce! I am convinced that I cannot be the only person who this has happened to. I complained to the manager but again they were insistent that I had not been charged on check in. If this is the case how could the duty manager refund the amount; you cannot refund something that has not been taken!!!! Just be aware that you may be charged twice if your card allows the amount on check in and check out. I have no doubt it will be refunded but that’s not the point. Every other hotel in the world takes the swipe on check in just in case you leave without paying, it is never debited from your account until check out. I have contacted the hotel to try and resolve this issue but they have failed to do so. I feel I must make you aware of this issue that may happen to you. Collapse

The rooms (and the rest of the hotel) have a luxurious finish. It makes for a nice stay, even though it is sort of generic. I suppose it's an ideal place if you're going on a business trip. The location is pretty good, St Georges is a cute neighbourhood. The route to the station becomes slightly less friendly at night, but during the day it's buzzing with charming people. Oh and there is a Lidl right across the straight, quite handy :) The service is excellent (the free apples are a nice touch) and everything is clean and tidy. I would definitely stay here again. We were here 3 nights on a visit to the city and I would recommend a stay here. Large comfortable room, good WiFi, great linens and a terrific bathroom with a deep tub. Cons: The 19 Euro breakfast (which we declined) seemed a little steep and an in-room pot for coffee/tea would have been nice. Overall a good bet though. Lots of comments about the dodgy area but I didn't see a problem. Its the usual scene for 3 or 4 blocks immediately near the train station, then its fine. If you are uncomfortable, take the metro for one stop and then walk 2 or 3 blocks back to the hotel. There is also a good little market right across the street for snacks. Collapse
