I booked two nights here as a surprise for my partners 30th birthday after being told about the fantastic spa. We were not dissapointed, from the moment we walked through the door, everything was perfect. We arrived an hour early but our room was ready to we were able to check in and then enjoy a couple of hours in the spa as this was included in the package I booked. The spa is absolutely brilliant and was relatively quiet so we felt like we could really relax. I love the fact you can enjoy the sunshine in the outdoor hot tubs. We didn't book a restaurant on the first night but they were able to accommodate us straight away so we ate in the Bistro. The food was really good and wasn't too pricey. The service was also very quick. On the second day we went off walking for the day and it was great to be able to come back and spend a couple of hours in the spa again before tea. We'd booked the fine dining restaurant for the second night and after spending all day in the sunshine, I was feeling quite unwell. I spoke to a member of staff about having our food brought up to our room and straight away they were really accommodating and made the arrangements, no questions asked. The food again was really nice with a good selection to choose from. Everything about this hotel just made a great experience, from the very polite and friendly staff. To being quite surprised at the size of our room considering I'd just booked a standard double. My partner is 6'4 and I think it's the first time he's ever fit properly in a bed away from home! The view when you sit out on a night is beautiful too and if the weather is right, there is no better place to be. I would definitely return and let others know about this hotel. Collapse

Stayed here fron 19th to 21st June as a birthday surprise from my partner. What a brilliant choice I may add. He booked a 2 night 'Virgin Experience Days' gourmet break for 2 at this outstanding hotel. We arrived at 4.30pm after a 3 hour drive from Scotland. There is plenty of parking to the front of the hotel. The hotel itself a wonderful building full of character with new annexes which have been tastefully added over the years. We were checked in by a pleasant friendly welcoming lady whom I assume was the owner. She explained the procedure for our evening meal in the wonderful Oak Restaurant then confirmed our meal time. She showed us round the hotel informing us of all of the facilities and then to our room which was on the 1st floor. I would highly recommend room 40 to anyone looking for a beautifully decorated comfortable and relaxing room. It had a dual aspect view. One over the putting green to the side of the hotel with views over miles of spectacular rolling countryside beyond. To the other side a view towards the front of the hotel with yet more lovely views above a patio area with well tended flowerbeds. The room had an enormous comfortable bed with fresh cotton bedding. Very very comfortable. Complimentary tea/coffee and hot chocolate with pods for the espresso machine were also provided. The bathroom was amazing. Large and spacious with a walk in shower which had a rainforest shower head along with a regular shower head. Numerous fluffy hand and bath towels were also provided. It was spotlessley clean and fantastically well appointed as was the bedroom. There was an informative guest directory as well as tourist info brochures for the surrounding areas. Not forgetting the 2 comfortable armchairs which you literally sank into. Ample storage for suitcases and a large wardrobe for clothes. We had booked dinner for 7.15pm in the Oak Restaurant. We sat in the bar/lounge area and ordered a couple of drinks. A member of staff took our order and brought us some canapes. We were then shown to the restaurant. A lovely dining room. We had our amuse bouche which was divine. A small cup of tomato soup with small flecks of cheese and I think truffle oil. My partner had the salmon starter which looked amazing, I had the pork cheek on a bed of puy lentils with a celeriac foam. Have never tried this cut before but I most surely will again. The starters were beautiful. We had sirloins for our main which were perfectly cooked. Dauphinoise potatoes delicately flavoured with garlic, vine tomatoes, flat cap mushrooms and we chose a diane and a peppercorn sauce. We added a side of onion rings which were perfect. Cooked in a light crisp beer batter with a subtle seasoning of salt. We both opted for trio of chocolate dessert. Ice cream in a chocolate brandy snap basket, a white chocolate mousse and a bitter chocolate tart. The meal was outstanding. A fantastic experience. It's obvious why the restaurant has been awarded 2 rosettes, In my humble opinion I would suggest 3. We had a great sleep that night. We went for breakfast in the morning. The breakfast menu offers a varied selection of choices. I had the English breakfast delicious on both mornings. My partner had muffins with serrano ham and poached eggs on the first morning and scrambled eggs with salmon on the second. The breakfast staff were all lovely people, friendly, informative. After a great day in Keswick we chose to dine in the Bistro Restaurant at night when we returned to thehotel, however, as the hotel was quieter, we had our meal in the Oak dining room. Yet again a wonderful meal. The staff throughout our visit were simply awesome. Friendly, welcoming. knowledgeable and professional. We both had such a fantastic stay and we will be back often. Thank you so much to all the staff. What a fantastic team. To me they epitomise all that is good about customer service. A wonderful experience. A+++++++ Collapse

They were noisey at breakfast and the ones in the room next to us were arguing at 4am. The kids were so badly behaved at breakfast. Not the quiet place it has always been on previous visits however, we are looking forward to going again but not that time of year. Collapse
