I booked a short anniversary trip to Iceland with my wife for February 2018 but in December 2017 I was diagnosed with leukaemia. I immediately informed all hotels, airline, car hire etc that I would be unable to travel and, with nearly two months' notice, all of them apart from the Apotek Hotel were kind enough to waive their cancellation restrictions/penalties etc and provide a full refund. I received a terse message from the Apotek, however, that a cancellation was not possible but they hoped we would re-book at a later date! Can't believe this room would have been very hard to re-sell in UK school half-term in the middle of Northern Lights season... Collapse

We stopped here for a mini break for my 50th birthday. The location is excellent, most attractions and shopping are within walking distance. Bus stops 3 and 4 are close by for pick ups and drop offs either for the excursions or airport transport. The hotel is well kept and clean. The beds and bedding are comfy. No baths but a nice powerful shower. It was very quiet all the time we were there but I have read it gets noisy on a Saturday night. The breakfast buffet was ok but nothing special. You do have to get your own teas and coffees off the bar. They are not served at the table. There was an ok choice of food but not many hot choices. Just scrambled eggs, beans, bacon, sausage and not much else. There was more choice on the continental breakfast side of things, the freshly made porridge was lovely. However, I would have expected more for £20 in English money. We ate there twice for convenience sake and went over the road to Cafe Paris on Valentines Day as a special treat. That was lovely but far more expensive. I would definitely stop at Apotek again. The staff were pleasant and helpful, booking transport etc and giving advice. Collapse

The hotel is perfectly located for exploring Reykjavik. Decor is smart, room was not big but ok. However, being on the first floor meant that we were above the restaurant- every morning around 6am we were woken by someone moving chairs. Restaurant and bar are lively. Amazing cocktails and good value during Happy Hour (4 - 6pm). Had the 6 course taster menu. It was beautifully presented but if you don‘t enjoy trying unusual food - don‘t have it! We had puffin (ok) and Minky Whale, which tasted like eating raw liver. Bus stop 3, which is a collection point for all trips, is just around the corner and the main shopping streets with restaurants are only a few minutes walk. Collapse

The room here was lovely and clean. The bathrooms are kitted out with Molten Brown goods and it was a really pleasant stay. All important for us Brits was the fact that BBC ITV and E4 were on! for winding down after a cold day. We didn't feel the need to eat breakfast here as there is so much choice so close by. However, we didn't like the fact that the hotel charges you to use the spa area (not even treatments) but the sauna steam room etc. during your stay! It should be included in the price. Parking is not free but there is plenty nearby and from 6pm on weekdays it is free if you make excursions outside the city. Collapse

Went with my wife for a long weekend in the beginning of February. The hotel is located in the best location in the centre of Reykjavik. Although we had rented a car and the hotel did not offer parking spaces we managed to park the car every night on the street parking around the hotel. Street parking is plenty and cheap. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and offered really good advice. The room was nice, not like the published photos on the website but nonetheless it was nice. The bathroom was also fully stocked and also offered Molton Brown products (shampoo, soap, shower gel etc) which I found was really nice. Large TV with many English programs was also a plus. A couple of things I did not enjoy were that the windows are made of wood and old. The first night I had trouble sleeping due to wind noise that came from a huge gap at the inner window. It was solved after I jammed a bath towel to close the gap. Another thing was that everyday I found on my pillow another pillow (like an extra one in another colour for decoration). The problem was that this pillow was most of the time on the floor and I did not appreciate it laying on the clean pillow. Last but not least although we were on the fifth floor we had a lot of music from the restaurants and bars in the surrounding area, but only on Saturday night. Collapse
