We needed a family getaway to destress and I have no idea why we chose Basingstoke but after hunting around on hotel apps and reading reviews on Tripadvisor we opted for the Apollo Hotel. A 2 night stay for 1 adult and 1 child including breakfast cost us £184.00, which worked out below the budget we were willing to pay. I’d read a couple of bad reviews on here about the rooms being too hot and decor outdated but there were a lot of good deals too. Yes, the room was scorching when the towel rail was on and it was the hottest May bank holiday on record, but a switch on the main light switch inside the door solves that problem. The decor in the communal parts of the hotel is first class, the rooms are a little dated but not in a tatty way at all, just a slight retro hint that I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t read the earlier review. Breakfast was a great buffet and the sausages were great. The pool was lovely, not too warm, not too cold, and you didn’t have to rush for a daily swim as it was open until 10pm with the last admissions at 9:15. The location was easy enough to find, although Basingstoke itself has some of the strangest traffic systems ever (not the fault of the hotel) and I don’t think I ever made it to the hotel once without getting lost en-route. Parking was ample and I never struggled to find a space. It seemed to be the cornerstone to many counties, as we visited many places whilst there, never really more than 30 minutes or so driving, and they all seemed to be in different counties. Free wifi was good, I picked it up in the car park even. In the room the wifi was strong enough for my wife and daughter to both watch Netflix on different devices and for me to surf online on my phone all at the same time. Just a short walk behind the hotel is a lovely children’s playing area too. Minus points - Room service menu was extremely expensive and we found ourselves having our evening meals at the nearby Wetherspoons. The swimming pool changing rooms are quite small and can sometimes get a bit crowded with just a few people in them. Overall, a very pleasant stay for the money and just what we needed. I would recommend to family and friends. Collapse
Weekend stay for a convention

Very good hotel. Comfortable rooms, lovely bar area, good quality restaurant food. Plenty of parking. Swimming pool and spa area looked inviting but we didn't have time to use it. Staff were helpful and friendly.

I required a location to host a business meeting in Basingstoke and The Apollo Hotel came up trumps. From the very start the GM, Paul, assisted with any requirements as did Sarah who swiftly managed the booking system. On arrival we were greeted by the duty conference rep who bent over backwards to assist us; we booked unlimited teas/coffees and the facilities were clean, bright and well maintained. All members of staff were easily accessible whenever we needed anyone and the hotel bar provided us with a pre-ordered lunch. Nothing was too much trouble; we were served quickly and efficiently and felt very well looked after. Thanks to the Apollo Hotel for making us very welcome; particularly the barman with his light-hearted humour. We shall certainly be making use of the Apollo and it’s facilities in the future. We booked this hotel via the Legoland site as part of a package (2 nights stay with Legoland passes). We travelled as a family with 2 children under the age of 6. We were impressed with the amount of parking available on arrival and the studio room we were allocated. The children had a pull out bed with separate tv. We stayed in room 410. However on arrival late afternoon we found our room extremely hot. One radiator could not be turned down in the children's part of the room. It was red hot to the touch. We reported it however we were told it was too late to get service man out to look. The following morning I reported it again to reception and was informed they would send a service man to look at it. After returning from Legoland for the day the room was still too hot and the radiator still on full. No note had been left to say it had been looked at. We raised it again and was told someone would look at it. No one came. The room was so hot we didn't get much sleep over the two nights and opening the windows caused excessive noise from the busy roads surrounding the hotel. On checkout we raised the issue again and said how disappointed we were. The person on reception said they were sorry but there was nothing they could do and we would need to take the issue up with Legoland as we had booked via their site. It is a lovely hotel but the room was so uncomfortable with the radiator stuck on the highest setting. Really disappointed it wasn't dealt with during our stay. Needless to say we ended up leaving Legoland on the second day at lunchtime as the children were very irritable and tired due to lack of sleep. What should have been a great 2 nights away wasn't very pleasurable at all. Collapse

Easy to find hotel and close to Town Centre. Breakfast plenty of choice something for everyone. Swimming pool with sauna and jacussi which is very relaxing. Bar had plenty of comfy chairs to relax in and good choice of bar food. Room clean and lots of hot water. Only downside was shower was over bath and shower curtain quite thin which kept sticking to you when wet. All in all a good place to stay. We were here for a wedding the next day in Basingstoke Centre. Collapse
