This was a good choice for location and room size. The 397 bus stops right outside for airport transfers (€6 adult/€2 kids); you can purchase tickets on the bus. 5 minute walk to Vondelpark, Abike rental next door, 10 minute walk to Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum and right on the main canal to get you Anne Frank/Westertoren (20min). There were 2 queen beds in a standard family room and a large bathroom (for Europe). First American blow dryer I have found in Europe where you don’t need to hold the power button on. Concierge gets mixed reviews- a few could use some re-training as I called down to get help with a dinner reservation and after taking down my details never called back. When I went down an hour later to check on the status a bellman had to help me since the concierge was on the phone and had a line of people waiting to talk to him. I waited a good 10 minutes before flagging down a bellman. I did get some great recos from Sven the 1st day I was there so kudos to him! Maybe he can train the others. Try the pancake place across the street on the canal- awesome for breakfast and they also do takeaway if you want to go eat in the park. Collapse

Full disclosure: Marriott Rewards Platinum member. First the pluses: An excellent location for walking and tram routes; major parks adjacent to the property. Many local restaurants also nearby as well as attached to the hotel. The Executive Lounge is huge with several hot dishes at dinner, as well as various cold plates and desserts. The room has a huge flat screen TV, on a pivot arm so it can be viewed from various room locations. The negatives: As a Marriott Rewards Platinum member for many years, and having traveled around the world staying at Marriott properties, the Amsterdam Marriott has the worse interior decoration of any property I have visited. What was the decorator and management thinking??? The halls and rooms are bleak and stark, giving the impression of an institution or prison. The halls are shades of gray and beige, the rooms the same; the photographs on the walls are also black and white (shades of gray). The only color in a room is the highlighted gold painted wooden cogs. Most depressing. The floors are mostly hard tile; the guest room doors close with the sound of doom. Wakes the dead in the morning as people go out for breakfast. There is no work table or desk in the rooms nor a desk chair; I needed to request one. Little horizontal space for spreading out. In the bathroom, there is a horizontal post perpendicular to the wall, close to the front of the toilet stool; a perfect location for damage to ones leg or heel in the dark of night; what to see my scars? What poor planing. Collapse

Extremely satisfied with all aspects of this hotel!! COMFORT-plush King mattress (firm), pillows, duvet and linens. Didn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. Large backlit tv, wall mounted. Platinum Level Members lounge......best I’ve been in. Everything you need and more for light food, snacks and drinks. Beautifully presented. Nice space. SERVICE- Can’t say enough about the Concierge Team! Almost always more than one available. So helpful and EXTREMELY personable. Good guidance and suggestions. These guys are a real plus for the hotel. The servers in the Members Lounge were constantly on top of things, keeping everything clean and orderly. The room was most often busy and always open. They were also friendly and helpful. DECOR- Rooms done in sleek, neutral grays, white/black. Very updated and tasteful. Hallways leading to rooms were carpeted with subtle gray short pile that looked like velvet and B/W photos decorated the walls. Lighting was excellent. Loved the TWO side reading lights. Comfortable bath, although small. I liked the tile floors rather than carpet. S Very much appreciated certain amenities......large magnifying mirrors and shower caps!!!! CLEANLINESS......excellent! LOCATION.........also excellent. Minutes walk to the major museums. Walk across the street for a canalboat ride. Pretty much next door to beautiful Vondel Park, My new favorite Marriott!!!! Collapse
