My first time to this coast and what a gem! The hotel is conveniently situated a 10 mins walk from the pretty and historic town of Hvar and had all the 4* amenities you would expect. The pool is particularly lovely with many smaller pools and places to sit aswell as an excellent pool bar! We went half board and had a plentiful choice for breakfast and dinner all things considered. My only criticism was that the hot food was not always hot, even at the beginning of service... Rooms are clean and comfortable , although tea & coffee machine not included which would have been nice. I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR ALL Collapse

From reading some reviews I am thinking they must have had some renovations as it was a lovely big size. Lots of choice at breakfast, my only comment is that staff sweep everything from the table onto the floor when clearing ie empty sachets etc. You can not fault this hotels position, staff helpful and polite. Great hotel service for taking suitcases down to Catermaran and then it’s just an easy 10 min walk. Would I stay again..... most definitely yes. Collapse

we stayed two nights at the amfora. the only rooms available were the one bedroom suite. room was beautiful and spacious, and superb for what we paid. pool is comparable to a 5 star resorts and the views are simply gorgeous. breakfast also had a variety of food and is two thumbs up. what didn’t go so well... we had a number of mosquitoes buzzing around in our garden suite. the room cleaners would open the windows after they made the rooms letting them all in. we got several mosquito bites as a result. in addition we had no hot water in the evening for bath/ shower. it seemed to be okay any other time except the evening hours when you would like to take a shower before bed time. they called the plumber and he told us there was “nothing wrong” with the plumbing. perhaps this issue was isolated to our room? the property is large and the hotel has a tonne of stairs throughout and for some rooms like ours, it was a far walk with several steps and no elevator. therefore there are potential accessibility issues and in particular if you have several pieces of large luggage, it become more difficult to get to and from your room. the walk to the hotel from the port is also far if you are carrying hand baggage. better instructions to the hotel with a map would be helpful. if it weren’t for these issues i would have rated this hotel 4-5 stars. We payed a fairly small price for just 1 night in this hotel, so we were pretty surprised when we found out breakfast was included too. Nice hotel, very smart and modern on the inside. The staff were very pleasant, all with smiles on there faces. Location fantastic, just a 10 minute stroll along a nice coastal path to get to the centre. I thought the choice at breakfast was pretty fantastic, my opinion might have changed if we had been there for more than 1 night though. I would definitely recommend staying here. A week might be too much, but a couple of days would be good. Collapse

So this is a hard review as I have tones of negative things to say but I would definitely stay here again if I returned to Hvar. Firstly, my overall score is based on amazing location and probably the best views from any hotel in Hvar. Breakfast was included and was very typical hotel offering of yogurt/fruit/cereals/breads/cheeses/hot food English breakfast style with a few random vegetable and and pasta salad or over leftovers from the night before buffet. Juices, coffee, tea etc... I was however very impressed by the selection of milks including oat, almond, coconut and soya. The staff at breakfast service were probably the best staff in the hotel, certainly the most friendly. The bedrooms are impressive at first but once we settled in we all discovered lots of things that were not so good. 6 of us had 3 rooms, 2 doubles and 1 twin. These were some of the issues we had. Fridge in 2 rooms didn't work, balcony door handle broken so door would not shut (this was fixed as soon as complained) drawer in cupboard broken, very hard beds which gave some of us back ache, maybe that's a personal thing but if wasn't comfortable for us. All 3 rooms were full of mosquitos on arrival as the patio doors were left open. We complained about this to reception and were told that we should expect this and didn't seem that bothered. Eventually they managed to find 2 of us mosquito plug-in things which did help. I've never had a mosquito problem in a hotel room before and I am quite well travelled. I was annoyed by the receptions staff lack of concern regarding this and we all got bitten badly for the first 2 nights. I had 11 bites on 1 leg alone and they became big and sore and made my first few days of the trip uncomfortable. Never had a mosquito bite before. There were literally 100s of them. I had an electric shock from the hairdryer that was missing a part as it was broken. My finger got stuck in the back of the fan part as the protective bit was missing. Clearly no maintenance checks had been done. The lights didn't work in 1 room, only bathroom light. The air conditioning was set at a fixed temp 23 degrees, I was told the entire hotel was set at this and that it could not be changed. 23 degrees is far too hot for me to sleep and we couldn't open the patio doors due to mosquitos. After 4 days and 3rd complaints about temperatures the air conditioning dropped to 19/20 in my room only and was much better. Our friends had no working air conditioning at some points as it kept switching off. Our rooms were not cleaned for the 8 days we were there. Our bed was made once on the 2nd day only. I don't have an issue with cleaning my own room but we all had to go off to find a cleaner for fresh towels and toilet paper every day, bit annoying and I personally don't think a 4 star hotel deserves 4 stars if no cleaning or services are provided. The hotel did not indicate that our rooms would be cleaned or serviced but it is the usual procedure in any hotels I've stayed in. Maybe they are short staffed. The sink in our bathroom was a bad design as if you run the tap the water goes everywhere and gets everything wet, most bizarre. The most strange moan we all have is that the hotel and currently doing some renovations and the builders start banging/drilling from 7am. It's bizarre that you would start building work and the beginning of the season knowing the hotel will be fully booked. It looks like a big job so doubt it will be finished anytime soon. On arrival we were told we could use a different door to get to the pool to save going up all the stairs and lift to come back down again which made sense and meant we could be at the pool in 2 minutes however the wall was hard to climb up and the bush needed trimming back so you don't get scratched climbing over. I think this is the fire escape but they need to build steps so people can easily exit. If this is the main fire escape how are people suppose to exit ? Also one fire door next to it was locked with a chain and padlock, very dangerous in emergency situation. This needs urgent attention. The swimming pool is one of the best features the hotel offers and we used the pool and terrace area everyday. Towels are provided and this service works well. The food available around the pool is pretty good and not too expensive. The waiter named Elvis was very nice and good at his job. Happy and friendly all the time. The hotel met us from the boat and took our luggage to the hotel and we walked (15 minutes to hotel ) great service and there did the same when we left. No charge for this. If the hotel could improve the room services/cleaning/facilities it would so good. This hotel is very expensive during peak season, if I was paying full price I would be asking for compensation. For the price we paid (£65 per night?) it was ok. Collapse
