Hotel was lovely, staff were excellent and breakfast was very tasty. The room itself was tired and dated, not even in keeping with the theme of the venue. The carpet had a rip in it at the bathroom door, the furniture was all marked and/or chipped, the 2 arm chairs were filthy and stained, the curtains were old and dull looking and the bed was very uncomfortable to the point I am still suffering with a sore shoulder. As there was a wedding on that same night we struggled with parking and my wife was disturbed on several occasions around 2-3am with drunken guests in the hall and next door. Collapse

I was super excited to stay in a castle on our first family trip to Scotland. I prepaid for 2 rooms, four months in advance of our trip since there were 5 of us. I was utterly disappointed that my husband and I were placed in the top floor of the castle (up 45 winding steps) and our kids were placed on the bottom floor ( down approximately 30 winding steps). There is no WiFi in the castle and the telephone to the kids room was broken. The only way to reach the was up and down 75 steps!! On top of this, the toilet in our room was broken - wouldn’t flush. We reported both the broken telephone and toilet but no one ever came to fix it. Thank goodness we only booked 2 nights. The website looked amazing but no where near what we received in reality. Had a very enjoyable three night stay at Airth Castle Hotel & Spa. All the staff that we came into contact with were pleasant, efficient and helpful, especially those in the restaurant/bar area. Our room (117), set up as a twin within the hotel building was off a good size, comfortable and warm. The room was serviced daily. The only slight comment was that the bathroom door hit the loo as the bathroom was on the small side, albeit the small size was not an issue for us. There was a door stop in the bathroom, but the door hit the loo before the door stop - a minor issue which could be easily fixed. We used the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi daily and this is an excellent facility. The breakfast was standard fare, but nevertheless, very enjoyable and satisfying. The evening meals, in our opinion, we excellent. There are very comfortable lounge areas within the hotel with comfy chairs and TVs to watch. There are also very nicely laid out areas for sitting outside when the weather is good. There is plenty of free parking on site too. There is easy access to countryside walks all around the hotel, if this is what people are looking for. Overall, this is a first class hotel which we would recommend to anyone looking to stay in this area, and we will definitely be returning for another visit. Thanks again to all of the staff at Airth Castle who made our stay so very enjoyable. Collapse

After having to cancel a week in Skye due to a family illness my partner and I booked an overnight DBB here in the 4 poster room in castle as some sort of consolation. We shouldn’t have bothered. Room: decent size, beautiful views. But that’s about all it had going for it. Bathroom had no lock, door jammed, cracked bath panel, leak from the toilet, no hook for towels of any sort. And a practical high jump to get into the bath. A lot of people would genuinely struggle to get in! Out of 3 window. We kh managed to prise one open and it wouldn’t stay. So it was a long warm night. And as for the bed...the worst nights sleep either of us has ever had. We had to skip breakfast and get another hour before checkout. Think the mattress might date back to the original castle!! The spa: having been told on 2 separate occasions the 2 days leading up to our stay (when we booked it) there were spaces dotted for spa treatments, I was confident I would be able to get something slotted in and be able to use the pool and sauna etc and go for a massage in-between. Wishful thinking....booking system down, so they had no idea of who was booked in or not and so the beauty therapists were stood around doing not much. (Reception informed ys the next day they were not aware of this). Tried to make the most of by using the pool, jacuzzi etc but that was hard due to our eyes stinging with chlorine. Heard at least another 3 people complaining of the same. Eventually got booked in for a massage near 7pm and wish I hadn’t bothered. Wasn’t asked if the pressure was ok despite putting “deep massage” on my form nobody read. And all in all felt like it was just in and out with none of the relaxation you would expect of a spa of this caliber or indeed dang I had experienced in the past. Food:I thoroughly enjoyed the food on my previous visit and so was excited. But this time limited set menu, ordered bread “while you wait” and waited approximately 30 seconds before our starters appeared, rubbery scallops and bland duck patè....if you want churned out, average food then it’s the pace for you. Not offered water for the table, or a dessert menu, had to ask. Table sticky and crumbs from the last folk. Seems there are a lot of younger inexperienced waiting staff. And we we were asked our room number at least 4 times despite having given it as we walked in the door. It may seem I am nitpicking, but in a place that describes itself as an “exclusive retreat” I think most people would expect much better. It surprises me that main reception didn’t know about the issues with the spas booking system. Although they might not take the bookings for the spa or restaurant, I would expect that each section would communicate with each other. Otherwise they shouldn’t be offering the packages they do. Overall I found Airth castle utterly disappointing. And nowhere near the exclusive spa retreat they claim to be. Castle is in serious need of an upgrade, and maybe they are putting too much emphasis on their package deals and the amount of people they get through the door rather than the quality of the place. We wanted to feel relaxed and refreshed after a particularly stressful week. It was the exact opposite. We did inform reception of our issues and were given a small refund. Didn’t get the feeling they were too bothered though and I would certainly not recommend this hotel to anyone. A shame, because it has the potential to be really special. Collapse

Very excited to be going for an afternoon tea with my family on a visit to Scotland. The afternoon started well with a nice welcome from the waitress. We were seated next to an open door which we really appreciated on such a hot day but it wasn't a great experience after that. Two stands of sandwiches and cakes were brought out with one extra plate of cakes for my daughter in law who has to have nut free. We obviously assumed that another plate of sandwiches would be brought as has happened everywhere else we have had afternoon tea. But, none came so i asked for a few more, the waitress said she would go and ask the chef if it was possible! Another plate was brought but it all felt very uncomfortable and embarrassing. We also had to ask for more hot water for the teapot so it wasn't very attentive service. Such a shame because we were expecting it to be so special. For £87 for five people it really should have been perfect. Collapse
