Hotel was lovely, staff were excellent and breakfast was very tasty. The room itself was tired and dated, not even in keeping with the theme of the venue. The carpet had a rip in it at the bathroom door, the furniture was all marked and/or chipped, the 2 arm chairs were filthy and stained, the curtains were old and dull looking and the bed was very uncomfortable to the point I am still suffering with a sore shoulder. As there was a wedding on that same night we struggled with parking and my wife was disturbed on several occasions around 2-3am with drunken guests in the hall and next door. Collapse

We arrived at the hotel but room not ready until 3pm we had treatments booked at 1 30pm so we just had a coffee in bar not ideal. My treatment was lovely after that I went to the pool and I sat reading my book. When we went for our evening meal it was very dark we could not really see the menu anyway we eventually were able to order our meal which was lovely and the staff were great nothing was any bother to them. Breakfast was lovely but could have been a bit warmer and serve coffee and tea in pots rather than have to ask for another cup it would free up the staff for other tasks. The hotel was very busy and they also had a big wedding on as well. But on the whole it was lovely the room was very clean and plenty of towels we had a great sleep very quiet so thank you everybody at airthcastle. For cleanliness service and value 5 star it won’t let me click on hotel ratings Collapse

We went a family of 2 adults and 2 kids and my parents to Airth castle for a birthday weekend. The check in was 3pm but when we got there at 2.40pm we were told the rooms weren’t ready and to come back at 3. At 3 the queue to check in was massive and after waiting another 40 mins we were told again that the rooms weren’t ready and the excuse was that they were very busy and told us to keep checking back!!!Eventually after speaking to a manger who chased up the housekeeping we got our keys at 3.50pm with no apology and my parents are elderly and very tired at this point so we got changed and went to the pool. It too was very busy and we were told to come back in half an hour. When we went back it was busier and there was no system in place as to who was there first and all a bit of a shambles when we eventually got in we couldn’t get a locker and had to leave our stuff on a bench not ideal! All the staff kept using the excuse that it was because it was busy but surely this should have been catered for. At dinner the only time we could get was 830 and that was booking it more than a week in advance and the room was freezing the girl serving said it was always like that due to the glass roof. The dinner was nice but uncomfortable for everyone as we were all so cold. There hotel has the potential to be so much better and just so disappointed with the check in and not at any point did any of the reception staff ask how our stay was or even mention the birthday celebration which was on the booking form. Would not recommend staying here if there was a holiday as they clearly can’t cope when it gets busy! Collapse

The reception was welcoming, the lady cheery & helpful. I cannot comment on the modern part of the hotel as I stayed in the old castle at £138 b&b (my choice, not value for money for single occupancy). I carried all my bags from the car park to reception to find is the take the whole lot back to the car & drive up to the castle. Sign posting of rooms in the castle is poor, I ended calling the hotel from my mobile to find room 7. Funnily enough a common issue (according to the lady I spoke with, she didn’t really care) as when they numbered the rooms they started on the top floor - no signage to help one find the low numbers. The room was roasting, radiator valve didn’t work, the bathroom was/is awful. Tired and outdated with plenty broken tiles etc. The aged shower curtain was manky in this day & age not something a high end hotel should have. No wifi in the castle either. Breakfast was odd for a hotel of this standard, all from a buffet, all cooked food in big silver trays, nothing cooked to order & if you don’t like scrambled eggs then there’s no alternative. The range of reviews truly reflects the variation in experiences. I wouldn’t rush back. Collapse

Don’t normally write reviews but I feel I need to warn people who may be thinking of going to Airth castle! Arrived at reception and got our room card, we were staying in the castle which was a short walk from main reception, arrived in castle, nobody there to show us to our rooms, no idea where room2 was! After going up and down various stairs eventually found our room which was just just average at best! I know it is an old castle but in this day and age I would have expected WiFi in rooms as we were paying extra to stay in the castle.. in the morning went down to main building for breakfast about 8.30am to the site of a queue all the way past reception! Surely this wasn’t for breakfast?? Yep joined the queue for 1/2 hr before being asked to sit and wait untill a table became available, breakfast was buffet style, plates were stone cold! Food was just a greasy mess and most of it was cold! Then had to stand and wait for toaster to work it’s magic on frozen bread while the cold food got even colder!! Didn’t help that the dining area was Baltic cold either!! I kept my jacket on the whole time while eating breakfast!! Please keep your well earned money and go to another hotel as the attraction of staying at a castle will be short lived!!! Collapse

My partner treated me to a lovely stay at Airth last Sunday and i really enjoyed my stay. Upon arrival, the castle looked grand and beautiful. Very pleasing to the eye. When we checked into reception (in another building a few hundred yards away) we were warmly greeted and given room 204. The room was clean and nice and absolutley fine, however, becasue there was a castle nearby i wanted to stay there instead. Nothing wrong with the first room just to add. The lady was kind enough to show us room 14 and it was absolutely charming and delightful. A beautiful 4 poster bed, beautifully furnished, tea/coffee, lovely bathroom and lots of character. We also had a nice meal in the restaurant in the evening. And i'd like to personally thank James for taking the time to chat to us and make us feel welcome. Please don't be put off with the negative reviews here. People can be too petty and unfair. To put a review on and give it a low score because someone did not have shower gel, or because their room was a bit dated (which old furniture usually is!), there is no reason to give it a low score. I found our experience lovely and I would return. Thank you Airth and I hope you continue to receive positive feedback. Collapse
