Had to call housekeeping and they returned with another set and told us “this is new, and it have hair in it too”. In my mind, it only means this hotel is not very clean with low standards. Not comforting at all. Location was far and not convenient. I do not recommend this hotel! Collapse

We recently stayed here for 1 night just. Staff were friendly, room was basic but clean. Two single beds pushed together with a double sheet over them and two single duvets. Beds where really comfy. Bathroom had a shower, when on the toilet your knees where almost in the shower, pretty small but it was clean. Hairdryer was provided in our room. No tea or coffee facilities in the room, however there was a coffee machine on each floor that was free of charge. Breakfast was basic - two varieties of cereal, toast or small bread rolls, boiled egg, cheese, meat and sliced melon. Fruit juices, tea and coffee. The hotel itself is quite a walk from the main area of Reykjavik, so it may not be suitable for those who aren't great with walking. Collapse
I would come back again.

We booked 3 nights at 22 Hill Hotel for our winter vacation to Iceland. We were looking for a hotel that was within walking distance of the downtown shopping district (Laugavegur Street), reasonably priced and comfortable. 22 Hill Hotel hit the mark on all accounts. The hotel itself is clean and well-maintained, the front desk staff were super friendly and helpful, the free breakfast was adequate for our needs, and the wifi actually worked well (not always the case in other hotels in the US and abroad). Situated in a quieter residential area, the hotel is only about a 15 minute walk from the shops and restaurants in the touristy part of Reykjavik (Laugavegur shopping street, Hallgrimskirka church, etc). You can't really get lost, out of the hotel, down the street one block, make a left onto Laugavegur and walk straight downtown. We booked a standard double room and I think actually got upgraded to a superior room on the 3rd floor as we had a beautiful view of the Esja mountain range. across Faxa Bay. No complaints about that! The room was spacious enough for the two of us, the bathroom was quite large, although my wife thought the lighting over the sink could've been better. The shower was smallish, but really just fine and had a seemingly unlimited supply of hot water (first one to shower in the morning needs to run the water a few minutes to get the hot water going). The rooms decor is nothing fancy, but that's fine by us, everything was in good condition and functional. Plenty of outlets to charge your devices, but the one thing I did find out was to not turn off the main power switch on the wall by the door when going to bed at night...not only does it turn off all of the lights, it shuts off power to the outlets and the bathroom lights. The hotel is attached to a restaurant called the Potturinn og Pannan (Pot and Pan). We ate there two nights and the food was pretty good (try the salt cod, but the bacon/blue burger wasn't bad either). This is also were you'll eat breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was fine for us, an array of breads, cold veggies, basic cured meats, pate, skyr (although their skyr was more like sour cream in consistency and not like the awesome thick stuff we had elsewhere), hard boiled eggs, juices and coffee. I was hoping for some hot oatmeal as well in the morning and maybe a little something different each morning like some graved salmon, dried cod, etc...but food is pricey on the island and I get that they're trying to keep the lodging costs down...bottom line, you won't go hungry as you start your day (unless you're super picky, in which case, head downtown to a Te and Kaffi (Icelandic version of Starbucks). We booked a few tours out of Reykjavik and one big plus of this hotel is that the tours will pick you up right at the hotel's doorstep (including Flybus transfers to/from the airport). For the Flybus and most tours, they use a shuttle bus to take you to the main terminal where you switch to a bigger bus. But...many other guests had to go to a designated bus stop near their hotels...you get to stand in the warm lobby, chat with the friendly front desk staff, and watch for your bus to arrive. I read a few other reviews on the hotel that complained about parking. We rented a car for 24 hours to do a self-drive tour of the South Coast. We always found parking. There are only a few spots across from the hotel and a few more next to it, so maybe those fill up in high season...but if they do fill up, just ask the front desk staff to point you to more free parking across within close proximity. It sounded like there was plenty to be found. You can always pull right in front of the steps to load/unload passengers and luggage. All in all, we were happy with our stay, we LOVED Iceland, and we would recommend this hotel to any of our friends. If you're looking for pampering and high-end services, there are plenty of other options downtown for a much higher price. If you're looking for comfort, convenience and friendly service, stay here. When we come back for a summer vacation in the future, we will stay here while in Reykjavik (next trip, we plan to explore the whole island. Collapse

This hotel as chosen as it had free parking out the front, or very close-by, and was within walking distance to the tourist centre district, although maybe further than some would like, but given we had a car to park, no issue. The hotel is a fine choice for a mid range option in Reykjavik – nothing fancy, quite bland, however does the job, and would perhaps cater to tour company tourists. We liked the fact that there was free coffee and tea available on every floor. There are plenty of maps and pamphlets available for guests to see what tours and sights are available, and there is free, good wifi, and our room was spacious and the bed comfortable. It was a little noisy as it was on the road going past – so try to specify for a room off the road. Breakfast was included, however it was OK, nothing special however to be expected in a mid range priced hotel. I would not recommend eating at the restaurant if breakfast was an indication, however you get what you pay for. What is fantastic about this hotel is the staff. The lady on reception during the day is an asset to this hotel – so friendly and helpful, she even went the extra mile when I needed some printing done. We were very very happy with the staff service here. Collapse

Reception staff were excellent both the lady during the day and the gentleman who supports Man Utd who covered the desk at night and who helped us get to airport when flight was brought forward in middle of huge snow storm! Rooms very clean and spacious. No coffee machine in room but one in reception. A little walk to centre of town but fine by us. Not a breakfast person but it looked nice. Ask for a room on third floor the karate club below can be heard in rooms 207-212! Collapse
