Weekend in Glasgow

Stay Date: 18/04/09, a customer from Aberdeen who stayed at 4* Crowne Plaza Glasgow in Glasgow wrote this review.

This was our 2nd visit to the Crowne Plaza Glasgow and indeed it would have been our 3rd had we been able to get a room in December 2008. This time we enjoyed it as much as we did in October 2007 See More  Read more information and we expect it will not be our last visit to this hotel. We consider it our favourite Glasgow hotel, mainly for the location, relaxed ambience and the leisure facilities. The down side is that it islocated on the outer limit of walking distance to the city centre and it is necessary to use taxis and the expense they involve. We had a room on the first floor and therefore not much of a view, butnext time we will request a room on one of the upper floors. We look forward to our next visit to the Crowne Plaza which we hope will be sooner rather than later.   Collapse  Hide

Glasgow

Stay Date: 02/06/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Berwick-Upon-Tweed who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express Glasgow Riverside in Glasgow wrote this review.

Arrived at the Holiday inn Express mid afternoon, Our room was not ready but the staff were very attentive and gave us a free drink at the bar while we were waiting and brought the room keys over See More  Read more information when they were ready only had to wait approx 15mins. The reception area was clean with plenty of staff on hand to help with any information you needed. Rooms were very good clean and well maintained.Location was just on the edge of the city centre about 5 mins walk to Argyle st and 15mins to Central station. Saw the Eagles at the Hydro. This was our first time seeing a concert there although haveseen many at the secc. The hydro was a very modern structure and well thought out for music events with good views of the stage, only one complaint as in many venues or shops these days it was far toowarm, could have turned the heating down a notch. The next day we took ourselves on a trip to see the Burrell collection at Pollackshaws Country park just a ten minute train ride outside Glasgow. Whata fantastic tranquil place and the Burrell collection itself was both interesting and generally amazing to see such a collection of Artefacts. In the afternoon we went to Kelvin Museum and gallery,Well worth a visit although we probably didn't allow enough time to enjoy it to its full potential you could honestly spend a day in there. Eating wise we ate at TGI Fridays on the first day always agood meal to be had and TGI's staff are always attentive and fun. On the second day we went out in the evening and went to Princess Gardens in Glasgow City Centre. There are numerous Restaurants topick from each with a variety of food, We chose the American grill on the top floor, Where we had Mexican chicken and beans it was very spicy and superb, The House Red was not bad either. For desert itwas the turn of our favourite CHEESECAKE and this one had a Peanut Butter Drizzle on it, out of this world. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Glasgow and will be back again for the next gig we go to,Staying an extra day is a must if you can, so much to do and nice food, a nice hotel to stay with excellent staff at the Holiday Inn Express. Will definitely go back.   Collapse  Hide

Glorious Glasgow!

Stay Date: 12/08/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Gateshead who stayed at 4* Holiday Inn Glasgow Theatreland (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Glasgow wrote this review.

I spent three wonderful days at the Holiday Inn (Theatreland) Glasgow with friends. The hotel is a short walk from both Queen Street Station and Glasgow Central Station and provides excellent value See More  Read more information for money. Hotel staff were welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel was busy but there was no sense of overcrowding and no sense of staff being too busy to cater for all residents. Like most peopleI suppose, I always start with an inspection of the bathroom and I was delighted with the level of cleanliness and the good quality and quantity of towels and bathing products. Similarly, the roomswere fresh, cool and very comfortable. We had a three-course meal in the hotels restaurant, La Bonne Auberge and the food was superb in presentation and taste. I will definitely be staying at thishotel again. It is ideally situated for visits to the theatre, serious shopping and places of cultural and historical interest. The sight-seeing bus stops just along the street from the hotel and it iswell-worth using as a means of touring the city and stopping off at places of interest. New to Glasgow

Stay Date: 20/04/16, a customer aged 65+ from Barnsley who stayed at 3* Mercure Glasgow City in Glasgow wrote this review.

The hotel was easy to find from the station and in a very convenient location. All staff we met were very friendly, efficient and obviously enjoyed their work. The room was a typical 3 star, not See More  Read more information large but had everything you needed, overlooked a side alley so was not noisy and everything worked except the plug in sink. Good shower and hair dryer, also had ironing facilities and enough wardrobespace for short stay. We had breakfast - the usual self service style, coffee and tea were excellent and served properly in order to keep the liquids hot; plenty of cereal choice, with nuts and driedfruit to add and fresh fruits and yoghurt but poor bread (only type was sliced for toast), mini croissants and Danish. Hot food was quite good with lovely bacon and sausage according to my travellingcompanion but as I am vegetarian I cannot comment. I was disappointed that there were only fried eggs (I do not usually eat fried food but had to), didn't try the vegetarian sausage but it looked homemade, mushrooms, beans and tomatoes were fine. Fruit juice and iced water was available - dining staff were very good and pleasant. We walked everywhere and found the signage around Glasgow wasnon-existent but the natives were very friendly and gave good directions. The City Chambers were fantastic, with a good 45 minute tour around the building. The Cathedral, Necropolis, St Mungo's Museum andProvands Lordship were all excellent visits, again with really good staff. Had a terrific walk all along Sauchiehall St to Kelvingrove area (for a lovely visit to the galleries) which gave a really goodfeel to Glasgow itself - the people, sights and sounds etc. We called at the Tenement House on our return, again better directions needed - but it was well worth the extra walking - a superb visitwith really good and knowledgeable staff - a brilliant glimpse into life of bygone years. George Square was a fascinating place to sit and people-watch, luckily the weather was warm and sunny throughoutour stay. Some super shopping malls - new and old style shopping readily available. Glasgow trades upon its friendliness and without doubt its a prime asset - its people, buildings and facilities arewell worth visiting and we will certainly have a return visit.   Collapse  Hide

A break in Glasgow

Stay Date: 10/06/16, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow wrote this review.

We booked into The Grand Central Hotel which we've stayed in before, a brilliant hotel, great breakfast and room 1st class, but there was a couple of things I wasn't happy with. Our bathroom sink See More  Read more information was very slow to empty and stuff came out into the basin - I reported this to reception who assured me that they would get it looked at. This didn't happen and I again reported it again - nothing wasdone, on checking out I reported it again. It was very warm at nights and I could only open the window slightly because of security device and there was no air conditioning, didn't have a good night'ssleep which was very disappointing. Although it's a great hotel this has certainly put me of going back again. I'd recommend Glasgow to everyone - great shops, pubs and eating houses. Give it atry! And make sure you book through SuperBreak - great value!   Collapse  Hide

St Paddy's Day staying at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow

Stay Date: 17/03/17, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 4* Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow wrote this review.

The room was excellent 2 very comfortable single beds and a sofa bed (which the staff made up for us). The room had lovely soft housecoatsand slippers for us and a good selection of toiletries. I have stayed in the hotel a good few times and can comment that the breakfast is of high quality. Self service buffet style. The haggis and scrambled egg (with cream in)were my favourite. Coffee good and strong. My friends enjoyed staying at the hotel so much we are going to make it our hotel again whilst staying in Glasgow. Three Days in Glasgow.

Stay Date: 02/05/17, a customer aged 65+ from Mowsley who stayed at 4* Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow wrote this review.

Very well planned rail journey with reserved tickets on the longer leg. Good views of the Lake District on the way. Awful coffee on the train so buy at the station if you can. Stayed at the Grand See More  Read more information Central Hotel on the station. Very comfortable rooms though some noise from the station, not excessive and a really great position for exploring. Paid for two days on the hop on hop off City Tour buses.Discount from the hotel. Travelling like this for two days consolidated our knowledge of the city. Be aware of the time of the last bus from where you alight or you may miss it as the tours stop at5pm. Plenty of interesting places to visit if you like history and art. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum especially when the organ is being played. St Mungos Cathedral and the necropolis worth avisit if you can climb slopes and steps. Glasgow University Hunterian Museum plus Renee Mackintosh's House. The City Chambers in George Square hold two guided tours most days. Very interesting with agood amusing guide. Eateries abound and we enjoyed three very different venues but each with its own ambience and really pleasant, chatty staff. They were not native Glaswegians but had lived there along time. The native Glaswegians were friendly and helpful if they saw you perusing a map. Left feeling we knew and appreciated Glasgow much more.
