Edinburgh City Holiday Reviews

Edinburgh City, Edinburgh

Book a hotel in Edinburgh and enjoy the historical capital of Scotland and its impressive and endlessly pretty castle skyline. Edinburgh offers fantastic galleries and museums, world-class theatres and great shopping, making this destination vibrant and modern with a traditional Scottish twist.

Hotels in Edinburgh are scattered all around the city, with the main concentration being in the city centre, around Princes Street and the Royal Mile. It doesn't really matter, however, as the city is well connected with an excellent bus and tram network. In most cases, the best parts of Edinburgh are with walking distance of your hotel.

As a capital city, Edinburgh offers all of the regular delights you would expect - including excellent shopping and a nightlife that is famous all over the world - yet it has so much more to offer.

  • The Royal Mile is the cultural heart of Edinburgh. In August this street is filled with artists and acts performing and selling tickets to their shows in the Edinburgh fringe. For the rest of the year, the Royal Mile offers excellent architecture, museums, The Whiskey Experience and a whole host of bars, tourist shops and restaurants. At the top of the Royal Mile, you reach Edinburgh Castle
  • Edinburgh Castle sits atop a large hill right in the centre of Edinburgh. From here you can get some of the best views of the city, you could even see your hotel! Visit the castle for a journey through Scotland's fascinating history.
  • The Palace of Holyroodhouse offers you a chance to see into how the royals live, with it still very much being one of the Queens residences. You can purchase tickets to visit the Palace from us when you book your Edinburgh Hotel

There is so much to see and do in this thriving city. To help plan your break, we have pulled together an Edinburgh Travel Guide that should help you decide what to do whilst there. What's more, if you want to make your most out of your short break, why not save some time and hop on one of our flight packages to Edinburgh So why not book your Hotel in Edinburgh and discover all the exciting things we've mentioned here.

Short Break In Edinburgh

Stay Date: 23/09/09, a customer who stayed at 3* Mercure Edinburgh City Princes Street Hotel in Edinburgh wrote this review.

The Ramada hotel is most conveniently situated on Princes St. near to all the tour buses & station & overlooking the gardens & Scott monument. First class shops either side. Hotel was comfortable See More  Read more information and staff friendly and helpful. Bedroom was too hot, though a fan was provided, if we had wished to use it. The tour buses are a good way of seeing the city. Take the 2-day pass for an extra £2 and useany bus, getting on and off as you please.   Collapse  Hide

Freezing But Friendly Edinburgh

Stay Date: 27/12/09, a customer who stayed at 4* Ten Hill Place Hotel in Edinburgh wrote this review.

Yes, in the coldest winter for decades we decide to visit Scotland for the first time! whilst the weather did limit sightseeing to a certain extent, the snow gave the city a magical festive See More  Read more information atmosphere. The views from the castle on a clear sunny were amazing with the snow capped mountains in the distance. Even though the mercury did not rise above zero all day, there was plenty to do inside aswell as out at the castle. It's probably worth getting your tickets online though and avoiding the feet numbing queues! the guided bus tours are also worthwhile for an overview and potted history of thecity, although there was a snowstorm whilst we were on our bus and the views were somewhat obscured! for evening entertainment with teenage children, we chose one of the underground ghost walks. Butbe warned, whilst our 14 year old son finished the tour only slightly less cynical then when he started, our 12 year old daughter was terrified! our hotel was clean and modern and only charged thechildren half price b&b - a great point in their favour for families.   Collapse  Hide

3 Days In Edinburgh Is Not Enough!

Stay Date: 28/12/09, a customer who stayed at 4* Ten Hill Place Hotel in Edinburgh wrote this review.

Superbreak certainly lives up to its name - from the ease of internet booking, to the choice of welcoming, stylish hotel and combined bargain rail fare - it does it all. You can't beat Ten Hill See More  Read more information Place for being very near the centre, yet quiet enough for a good night's sleep. A day's bus pass is only £3 so take the no.22 to the shore, Leith for good seafood or stay on the bus and visit the RoyalYacht Britannia. The city was covered in snow during my stay - making it even more magical.   Collapse  Hide

Edinburgh Shopping Break

Stay Date: 25/01/10, a customer from Tyne and Wear who stayed at 5* Principal Edinburgh George Street in Edinburgh wrote this review.

The George hotel was well situated but we felt the room (which was an upgrade to an executive room) left a great deal to be desired. Edinburgh was very cold and the room had no air conditioning and See More  Read more information no heating in the bathroom. The single radiator in the bedroom was in need of bleeding, which we didn't discover until the morning we were due to leave. On the second morning over breakfast wediscovered a dirty glass on a shelf behind our table which was obviously left over from the evening before.   Collapse  Hide

Lovely Stay At The George

Stay Date: 30/01/10, a customer who stayed at 5* Principal Edinburgh George Street in Edinburgh wrote this review.

The George is a very nice hotel and the breakfast is one of the finest hotel breakfast's I've had. I would stay again, however wouldn't bother with the upgrade to the executive room with the promise See More  Read more information of more space and fine views of the city. My exec room was immaculate but small, and the request for a room on an upper floor was ignored. To get to our room we took a lift to the first floor andthen walked a warren of corridors before walking back downstairs to room 44. The view we had was of a brick wall. All in though, a mere blemish on an otherwise lovely weekend.   Collapse  Hide

Short Break In Edinburgh

Stay Date: 30/01/10, a customer who stayed at 3* Stay Central in Edinburgh wrote this review.

The real Edinburgh is not just Rose Street. Whatever the reason for your visit, if you require good food without paying a fortune, I recommend breakfast and/ or lunch at the Standing Order which has See More  Read more information an entrance off Rose Street and Goerge Street. This old bank building is comfortable and spacious offering excellent value. For a special evening meal, try Cafe Marlayne, off the Royal Mile this isan atmospheric french restaurant serving excellent food at reasonable prices. Situated in old fishmarket place, booking is recommended. If travelling by train consider going 1st class. It is reallyworth paying extra.   Collapse  Hide
