Good break, but a few problems

Stay Date: 10/10/17, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 3* Royal Cambridge Hotel (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Cambridge wrote this review.

1. Super Break sent us 3 attachments re our stay but they wouldn't open on phone, tablet or PC. They resent them, supposedly in PDF format, but still wouldn't open. When I phoned them they said that See More  Read more information this was a common problem. Needs to be fixed! 2) The hotel has a £15 per day car park charge - not mentioned anywhere in the booking details. This is a bit sneaky. 3) Our break included a 'free' 2course dinner on the first night. We were assured by the waitress that this included all items on the menu at no extra charge. Our final bill however included a meal surcharge and we were then toldthat the 'free' meal was capped at £20. This extra charge was waived after I objected. I doubt if £20 would actually cover many of the meals on the menu. I guess that it is possible that 2) and 3) werecovered in the attachments from Super Break - if so it's even more important that Super Break gets it's email attachment problem sorted.   Collapse  Hide

OK but should have been better

Stay Date: 25/08/17, a customer aged 45-64 from Ware who stayed at 4* Lifehouse spa and hotel (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Frinton On Sea wrote this review.

We arrived about 4pm in the Friday, we had a short wait at Reception before check-in. We were given a room in the Mulberry block, double room 2nd floor. We noticed the draw safe wasn't working and See More  Read more information mentioned this to Reception after dinner as we didn't notice it wasn't working until we went to dinner at 7.15pm. We were asked to return to the room and some one would come and take a look. We waited11/2 hours and nobody came so we gave up and went back to the Reception and were given another card to try. We had a couple of drinks at the bar and went back to the room just before midnight. The newcard made no difference, the draw wouldn't lock. We gave up until the morning. We pulled back the quilt to get into bed and there was a stain in the sheet. I didn't want to sleep in the bed but hadno choice as Housekeeping weren't going to change it until the next morning. We had a treatment booked at 10.00 my husband was called first at 10.00, I was called just after 10.00. I was asked 2questions and the massage started about 10.07 and I was given a cup of water at 10.22. This was not acceptable for a 30 minute treatment at £45. I complained and was given a facial at 2.30 which lasted 30minutes. We also had to request different robes as the ones in the room on arrival smelt awful, a really unpleasant oily smell. We went back to the room early evening and the sheet still hadn't beenchanged and the drawer would still not lock. We complained to Reception again and by the time we checked out on Sunday at approx 11.45 the sheet was never changed. I complained on check-out but we wereonly offered a £50 voucher towards another stay which binds you having to stay again even if you may not want to because of all the dissatisfaction. We should have been given £50 off our bill. We arenot happy at all.   Collapse  Hide

Upon arrival the concierge was rude, she asked if I was checking in, to which I replied "yes I am" and See More  Read more information then there was silence. She then sarcastically said "well I need your name". There was no need for her tone or belittling attitude and considering this is a guest arriving should have been morewelcoming. We went offsite to eat both nights (Friday and Saturday) and struggled to park both times upon returning. As I am disabled I needed to at least be dropped off in the car park but on theSaturday concierge were arguing about letting our car in to even drop me off. He then proceeded to argue with me when I asked if the car park was private or public - his response "a private car park thatanyone can park in" very contradicting. I was aware that I was going to need to pay to park but no where did I read that space is limited and not available to staying guests first. The hotel offersChristmas parties, which I wasn't aware of upon booking through yourself and would have liked to have been informed by the hotel that they were going to be extremely busy and not just with hotelguests. Not only did the parties attribute to me not being able to park or sit, they were also loud and we could hear from our hotel room, meaning we had to shut the window. Overall I was verydisappointed with the hotel, the treatment and in turn my whole experience of Christmas shopping in Ipswich.   Collapse  Hide

Lovely Hotel by the sea front

Stay Date: 30/04/16, a customer aged 18-24 from United Kingdom who stayed at 3* Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft wrote this review.

My fiancée and I stayed at the Hatfield Hotel for two nights, over the Bank Holiday weekend. The room was lovely and well equipped, with a comfortable bed and ample storage space for both of us. The en-suite was very smart and cleaned to a high standard. We both slept reasonably well onboth nights; however, the alarm clock in the room went off at 12am without any warning on the first night! Safe to say this woke us up in quite a frenzy! The breakfast at the hotel provides areasonable variety of cereals, juice and pastries however, the service for hot drinks and cooked breakfasts was quite slow, on the first day. On the first morning of our stay, we both had full Englishbreakfasts, we found the portions to be quite small and there were no beans on the menu, however, the quality of what we did have was good. We went to the bar on our second night, which has a lovelyatmosphere and a wide range of drinks, at a reasonable price. The hotel is well positioned, right on the sea front and only a short walk from the town centre. The car park is positioned opposite the hoteland although it appeared small, we didnt have any issues parking, even though it was a busy, Bank Holiday weekend.   Collapse  Hide

Love this Hotel

The Hotel was great, Good Room, Good Food, Good Service, but the best thing was the staff. Rarely have we found staff that are clearly enjoying their job as much as these guys. In fact one girl said See More  Read more information she had only worked there for 6 weeks and she loved it. There was a manager organising some carpet fitters who were replacing the bedroom carpets on the ground floor and he was so excited about it hejust could not stop talking about it. Quality Hotel!

Stay Date: 26/09/14, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 3* Dragonfly Hotel Peterborough (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Peterborough wrote this review.

Quality Inn is the title but far from a Quality Inn. Breakfast cooked items standing in an inch of liquid, not at all appetising. Bread for toasting still in loaf wrappers, not ideal. Our dinner on See More  Read more information the evening was a mixed grill and a not very appetising Pizza. Lamb chop and steak barely edible, really glad that we had not booked 2 nights dinner. So much could be improved here with a littleeffort, and that also includes teaching the staff to be more attentive in the restaurant in particular. Once you were seated and order taken, food delivered, nobody was seen to check all is well. A verydisappointing weekend that shouldn't have had the issues. The setting here is great but poor quality of service/catering lets it down badly.   Collapse  Hide

Red Lion Hotel in Colchester has really gone down hill

Stay Date: 21/02/14, a customer aged 25-44 from Trowbridge who stayed at 3* Brook Red Lion Hotel (Afternoon Tea Offer) in Colchester wrote this review.

After staying at the Red Lion Hotel in Colchester on a few occassions around 6- 8 years ago i was appalled at how bad it has deteriorated and how unclean it is now. We changed to three different See More  Read more information rooms because of the standard of furniture and the cleanliness of the bathrooms and all three were very substandard. The first two rooms had two single beds pushed together (first room they weredifferent sized beds so slight difference in height) which was strange as we had booked a double bed and all were very un hygenic with body hair in plug holes and dirty toilets and a toilet brush that wasquite frankly disgustingly filthy. The third room we finally stayed in did at least have a double bed and wasn't as bad but still had other residents hair over the carpet. There was no hot water eitherbut this was explained from the manager that we had to run both bath and sink hot water taps for around 15 minutes to get it to come through as the hot water comes from the other side of the hotel. There was mould on all the ceilings in the bathrooms it was explained by members of staff that the head cleaner had had an accident and that the staff who were now doing the cleaning were not doing avery good job. Over all I would not reccomend this hotel to anyone.....it spoiled what was a good weekend to return to Colchester to meet family and friends.   Collapse  Hide

Weekend in Suffolk

Stay Date: 15/02/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Attleborough who stayed at 3* Mill Hotel in Sudbury wrote this review.

Spent a very enjoyable weekend in Suffolk staying at The Mill Hotel, Sudbury. The Hotel is in a lovely setting alongside the river Stour only 10 mins walk along the river into Sudbury town centre. See More  Read more information We stayed in a ground floor room, very clean and modern although a little compact with beautiful views across the river onto the meadows beyond. We had lunch and dinner at the hotel, though due to thekitchen undergoing refurbishment there was a restricted menu which still offered good choice and value. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and look forward to a return visit in the summer anda G&T on the roof terrace !! P.S a visit to Flatford Mill (15 miles away) is a must.   Collapse  Hide

Suffolk delights

Stay Date: 17/01/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Norwich who stayed at 3* Mill Hotel in Sudbury wrote this review.

The Legacy Mill Hotel is lovely in a beautiful location. Our room was well appointed with a very comfortable bed and wonderful views. However the kitchen was being refurbished which we did not find See More  Read more information out until we arrived at the hotel. They were operating a limited dinner menu (4 each Starter, main course and dessert) in a function room. We had dinner on the first night and were not impressed atall, neither were we impressed the following morning when we were offered a plated breakfast with no options. There were a few other choices - fruit salad, yoghurt (choice of 2) and toast (white breadonly). The tea and coffee was in thermos flasks and were both cold. The following morning we could select our own breakfast from heated containers but there were no eggs! We could not be bothered toget up for breakfast on our last morning. Also on both mornings a staff member was showing off the function room to potential customers once via the internet and the other in person - found it a littleuncomfortable. We had a lovely trip out to Lavenham (free parking) and had a lovely coffee stop in Sweetbreads tea and chocolate shop. We also visited Long Melford, much busier but free parking, andhad a nice walkabout. The hotel we stayed in is very lovely and comfortable and in a great location and would probably be better in warmer weather but we were very disappointed with regards to the nonnotification of the kitchen refurbishment which did spoil our stay as we prefer to eat where we stay.   Collapse  Hide

Although on an industrial estate the hotel is convenient for the University and we used it whilst our daughter was studying there. We have had pettyniggles with aspects of the hotel before but nothing of any consequence. She made no eye contact or reply but moved to a computer screen where she spent the next ten minutes without saying a word to us or apologising - we were all left standing at reception withour baggage for that period. She seemed 'put out' almost resentful! Eventually, again without any apology she allocated a second room. This turned out to be a disabled room. The rooms were fine anddinner on the first night was good however the attitude of the person concerned left us feeling that customer service and courtesy where not high on her agenda.
