Dundee & Angus Holiday Reviews

City of Dundee

As Scotland’s fourth largest city, hotels in Dundee make a brilliant choice for taking a short break in Scotland. As well as retaining much of its sea faring and industrial heritage, the city offers a modern city escape with plenty of opportunities for a spot of retail therapy too.

The HMS Unicorn and RRS Discovery also offer visitors a chance to experience two magnificent Scottish maritime attractions on the shores of the River Tay and Dundee’s picturesque Victoria Dock.

The surrounding area of Dundee also provides a fantastic selection of hotels in Angus, complete with breath-taking scenery, tranquil coastal retreats and the chance to see some of the county’s best-loved sights and attractions.

  • Discover an abundance of historic castles, abbeys and religious houses including Glamis Castle, Arbroath Abbey and Brechin Cathedral.
  • A visit to Carnoustie is perfect for golfers and sports enthusiasts alike. A renowned championship golf course, Carnoustie Golf Links is steeped in history, heritage and sporting traditions.
  • Established in the 18th century, the House of Dun is a beautiful Georgian building surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodlands – a truly elegant attraction for a day out in Angus.
  • Step back in time to rural life in Scotland at the Angus Folk Museum. Complete with fascinating objects and charming cottages, you can discover what life in the Angus countryside was like 200 years ago.
Whether you’re looking for hotels near Dundee or hotels in Angus, this stunning and vibrant area offers the perfect combination of city and countryside on a short break in Scotland.

October Break

Stay Date: 16/10/06, a customer from Hamilton who stayed at 4* Carnoustie Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in Carnoustie wrote this review.

We ravelled to Carnoustie via St Andrews. Beautiful town with lots of nice shops to potter in. The town of Carnoustie has a very unattractive entry. The hotel also looks in need of a make-over See More  Read more information including the swimming pool. When I booked I asked about activities available and was told that there were a variety inc. off-road driving, clay pigeon shooting, etc. On arrival, when I asked at the desk,no one was able to help and eventually I was given a number to call of a place on the far side of Dundee. This was very disappointing, and we will not be returning or recommending the hotel to ourrelations /friends Hotel restaurant/bar was excellent, both food & service. Discovery Point in Dundee is well worth a visit   Collapse  Hide

Canoustie ..not as good as it thinks it is

Stay Date: 17/04/09, a customer who stayed at 4* Carnoustie Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in Carnoustie wrote this review.

Hotel on the famous golf course which should be world class. Sadly it lacks any pretension it could have to be a good hotel and is cannot be described as anything but average. Rooms are dated but See More  Read more information comfortable. Breakfast was nothing special and chaotic in the serving at times (had to wait ages to get food replenished), leisure spa dated as well, but the restaurant for dinner at night was just bad.Do not believe anything it says on the website about fresh local produce or winning awards. The menu was overpriced pub fare (and I'm doing pub food an injustice) which was uninspiring. The seafoodsalad contained one mussel and a load of lettuce leaves! The main course was just as bad. The cheese board left overs from breakfast. At least the view was nice !!   Collapse  Hide

Short Break In Carnoustie

Stay Date: 01/04/12, a customer who stayed at 4* Carnoustie Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in Carnoustie wrote this review.

We complained twice during our stay about the amount of noise at 3.00am and 4.00am. There appeared to be no attempt by staff to quell the noise from loud guests-indeed the reception seemed to go and See More  Read more information on with the bar staff selling drink. The breakfasts were really poor and to cap it all my bill was debited with 30 pounds worth of drinks i did not have at the bar. It is a good job i checked mybill! Not a great experience, location great; staff good but you must warn people if you are hosting all night parties.   Collapse  Hide

Stay Date: 20/02/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Anstruther who stayed at 4* Carnoustie Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in Carnoustie wrote this review.

Superbreak made the booking extremely easy: not Superbreak's fault we choose a hotel that used to boast 4* and now barely would get 3* furnishing & decor all very tired, reception staff all See More  Read more information need training in mult-tasking pool area tiles all need scrubbed around pool-side & steam-room & sauna area Ladies changing room floor disgusting breakfast standard very poor in choice juicesconcentrated variety & not chilled, no granulated sugar for cereals, pre-chopped bought in fruit in syrup no fresh choice available, cheaply made bread & crossants, waffles full of crystalizedsugar don't pay extra for golf-link view, other rooms have a sea-view en-suite bathroom had bad marks where leaking had occured, as did bedroom wall all material furniture needed a good deep clean all overthe hotel, dusting was clearly not a strong point in public areas   Collapse  Hide
