Covent Garden & Strand Area Holiday Reviews

Somerset House, Covent Garden & Strand Area

Choosing hotels in Covent Garden & the Strand is an exciting task! As one of London’s premier entertainment areas, Covent Garden and the Strand combine vibrant street entertainment with exclusive designer stores. Visitors can discover the colourful markets and unique boutiques, as well as enjoying a refreshing drink or two in one of the many cosmopolitan street-side bars and cafes.

Whilst staying in a Covent Garden or Strand hotel, be sure to take a trip to one of the nearby London landmarks or fascinating museums.

  • The British Museum is located just minutes from Covent Garden offering you the chance to discover 2 million years of human history all housed under one roof.
  • The National Gallery sits on the edge of Covent Garden and is home to masterpieces by some of the world’s greatest artists including Da Vinci and Michelangelo.
  • The London Transport Museum takes you on a journey through the capital’s history of transport from the 19th century right up to the present day.
If that’s not enough culture for you, then why not enjoy an evening performance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall or head out to a nearby theatre to see a West End show?

Strand Palace

Stay Date: 31/01/08, a customer from Manchester who stayed at 4* Strand Palace Hotel in Covent Garden wrote this review.

The hotel room was comfortable & quiet. Unfortunately, the newspaper ordered didn't arrive either day. The receptionist didn't ask for a card swipe at check in which caused embarrassment when trying See More  Read more information to charge a meal to the room. Excellent meal in the brasserie. Hotel had daily offers (first cocktail 1/2 price & buy 2 glasses of wine get the rest of the bottle free). Drinks were expensive in thehotel, but this isn't unusual.   Collapse  Hide

London Easter 2008

Stay Date: 20/03/08, a customer from St. Helens who stayed at 4* Strand Palace Hotel in Covent Garden wrote this review.

Hotel was good - well placed for transport by bus and underground. Travel on Easter weekend by underground was poor due to servicing - 3 underground trains, one DLR & 2 busses to get to the Dome on See More  Read more information Good Friday (1hr 40 mins). Breakfast & public areas of hotel were good, but some work needed in bathroom. Got outside view as asked for. Useful to be able to buy travel cards at the hotel. Very wet& cold weather was a disappointment Train from Liverpool 40 mins late, but right on time on return journey. Jersey Boys - Excellent show that opened just that week. Very good seat. Great leadingperformances that were a must for the success of the show - would see it again, but there should have been a warning about the bad language that may have upset some parents with younger children. Supersongs - I never knew that the Four Seasons made all those hits.   Collapse  Hide

Stay Date: 03/04/08, a customer from Ripon who stayed at 4* Radisson Blu Edwardian, Mercer Street in Covent Garden wrote this review.

A flying visit to take in the Terracotta Warriors exhibition at the British Museum before it closed. Wonderful. Also went to the Ideal Home Show as it was on at the same time, my wife loved See More  Read more information it. Went to a show. Ate out at Smiths of Smithfield the restaurant of John Torode the TV Chef. Perhaps he is spending too much time on telly as we were underwhelmed by the food in his top floor restaurant.Very average particularly when the price is taken into consideration.   Collapse  Hide

Long Weekend In London

Stay Date: 24/04/08, a customer from Norwich who stayed at 4* Strand Palace Hotel in Covent Garden wrote this review.

This was an OK hotel. There is a lot of building work going on and the signage is not great so make sure your sense of direction is good. Reception staff were surly and unco-operative and gave me a See More  Read more information room key that didn't work. When I took it back down, I was told "It was your fault for having it near your mobile phone" so clearly a need for some customer service training or at least, some manners. On the positive side, a very clean room, fantastic housekeeping staff and the breakfasts (both staff and food) were top class. I would probably visit again but beware the reception staff. Just oneminor gripe - why did the people who greeted us in the breakfast room have to be so rude? Food was great and one of the chefs even asked if our breakfast was ok. We will go again..but just givebreakfast a miss if the rude staff are working.   Collapse  Hide
