City & Tower Bridge Holiday Reviews

Tower Bridge, City and Tower Bridge

Is there any better place to stay on a short break to the capital than The City? Central London's Square Mile is best known as a financial hub, but with hotels near Tower Bridge offering easy access to the city's top attractions, it's also just a great destination for a getaway.

Besides the impressive Tower Bridge, hotels in The City are close by to must-visit Tower of London, the vibrant Old Spitalfields Market and have excellent transport links to the superb shopping of Oxford Street and the glittering West End. To the east, the trendy Docklands area and tremendous music and cultural events at The O2 Arena are also just a short tube ride away.

  • Steeped in history, the Tower of London offers a great day out for the whole family. One of London's most endearingly popular attractions, the Beefeaters, the Ravens and the Crown Jewels are simply not to be missed!
  • Speaking of historic sites, two of London's most famous landmarks are in the area, and well worth a visit; the Monument to the Great Fire of London and the breath-taking St Paul's Cathedral are both a short walk away.
  • Experience the traditional London markets of Old Spitalfields and Leadenhall Market - both within your immediate vicinity.
  • On the south side of the Thames, the spectacular View from The Shard and HMS Belfast are both worth taking in if you get the chance.
A great choice for your next trip to London, check out our great range of hotels near Tower Bridge below for a short break to remember.

London trip

Stay Date: 29/06/19, a customer aged 25-44 from Rotherham who stayed at 4* The Tower in Tower Bridge wrote this review.

I stayed 2 nights in London to go to the baseball game at the Olympic stadium. The weather was 40c which was ridiculously hot on the day I arrived. I jumped straight into a cold shower to cool down See More  Read more information and put on sunscreen and hit the town. The hotel was excellent for the price. I would have been very happy paying 50% more. The hotel is located on the Thames and has great views of the river on oneside and the harbour on the other side. There were great local bars and restaurants and on Saturday a food market right outside selling everything from posh cheese toasties to Caribbean food. You areonly 5 mins from Tower Hill tube station and from there within 30 mins of anything London has to interest you. I would recommend this place to everyone. If the weather hadn’t been so hot I would haveenjoyed my time even more but overall it was a great trip.   Collapse  Hide

48 Hours in London

Stay Date: 04/05/13, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 3* Holiday Inn Express London City in Old Street/City wrote this review.

Check in is from 2p.m but the room was available as soon as we arrived :-). The room was very clean, modern and well equipped. Woulddefinitely stay there again. The London eye was a fantastic experience. Well worth the money, and we then spent a lovely few hours walking along the South Bank of the Thames taking in the atmosphere and seeing the sights. Onthe Sunday we took a bus tour with 'thebigbustour', saw all the sights and got lots of additional info thanks to our guide Emily. Later on we headed to Watford to get to The making of Harry Potterstudio tour. It was fantastic for any HP fans. Good value admission prices but you must book in advance not just turn up. On Monday we took a boat up to Greenwich. The cruise was included withthebigbustour ticket which was really good value at ?87 for a family ticket for 48 hours. Short Break in London

Stay Date: 14/03/12, a customer who stayed at 3* Thistle City Barbican (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in The City wrote this review.

We had a deal which included the first night's meal in the hotel restaurant. This was a mistake. The restaurant is described in the hotel's promnotional literature as a 'brasserie'. It was more like See More  Read more information a cross between a motorway service station and a canteen. Service was slow and there was nothing healthy on the menu. Two Nights In London

Stay Date: 14/03/12, a customer who stayed at 3* Thistle City Barbican (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in The City wrote this review.

We travelled by east midlands train the journey taking about 2 hours 7 mins from sheffield. Superbreak provided the train tickets and also oyster cards for the ride to old street station via the See More  Read more information underground. As we had never used these cards before some instruction as to how to check the value and zonal tube prices would have been useful. Also, as we discovered that we were able to use our seniorcitizen bus passes in London, details of what bus routes to take from the tube station would have saved me having to carry a suitcase for two bus stops. However, that aside we found the serviceprovided by Superbreak to be prompt and efficient. The hotel was clean and comfortable although not in the ideal location. The swimming pool was warm and not too busy. My wife thinks that the double bedwas too firm although the room was light and airy and quiet at night.Would i stay at this hotel again? Possibly and without doubt i would choose thistle chain of hotels. Thanks again for a very pleasanttwo day break.   Collapse  Hide

We stayed at the Thistle City Barbican hotel off of old street, it was a little out off the track from the actual city (hotel situated in the middle of housing estates) did feel a little vunerable See More  Read more information at times, especially after dark. But hotel itself was very nice. First night dinner included was excellent, however the breakfasts were a complete disaster. Absolutey no organisation with not enoughstaff to cover all areas. Thus somepeople just left the restaurant without breakfast!! Had to ask for our tea or coffee and self service ourselves for cutlery and condiments. Really needs to be addressed as really let the hotel down. Alsoa better selection of food needs to be puts on the menu (know its a 3 star hotel, but have stayed in other 3 stars and were much better). As part of deal went to see pricilla queen of the desert.Excellent show, only let down was seating on the balcony section was terrible we could not even see the stage so got moved to the lower section. We have stayed in this hotel last year and we all noticed that the standard had dropped in the hotel as the rooms were ok, but upon arrival we went to the room and had to open the window as itwas rather warm, and the sash window fell straight down it was very dangerous. We complained to reception but there was no warning sign put on the window but they did bring us a fan. On the secondday we were not given any towels, and no tea or coffee was left in the room. The pub over the road from the hotel has a good atmosphere and is very welcoming and the food is also good. Busy London Weekend

Stay Date: 06/02/09, a customer who stayed at 4* Novotel London Tower Bridge in Tower Hill wrote this review.

I had a great time visiting London, and had forgotten what a wonderful City it is. I loved walking along the riverside from the Tower of London all the way to Big Ben. I did a lot of shopping on See More  Read more information Oxford Street and Regent Street and bet you could find just about anything you could want on those two streets. Hamleys toy store is a must for anyone who wants to spend lots of money on a special kid!The highlights of the weekend have to be Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall, and "Hairspray" at the Shaftsbury Theater. Both were fabulous, and the ideal thing to do on a weekend when you justwant to have fun. The hotel was great. Clean and basic, but full of soul. The foyer had just been rennovated when we arrived (literally - they were sweeping up the cement dust when we arrived). It ismodern and tasteful. The room was comfortable and a great place to lounge quietly with a cup of hot chocolate at the end of the day. Breakfast was buffet style and had all you could want... whetheryou wanted full english cooked breakfast, croissants, fruit, cold meat and cheese, cereals and yoghurt. Again, the breakfast area had just been rennovated on the day we arrived. Staff were mostlyhelpful, though sometimes unknowleagable, but always friendly. I stayed for a couple of days after the weekend and found that the atmosphere did change somewhat. We went from london weekend holiday makersto business people, but this hotel easily meets the needs of both and was a real pleasure to stay in.   Collapse  Hide

Family in London for a Long Weekend

Stay Date: 08/08/08, a customer from York who stayed at 4* Novotel London Tower Bridge in Tower Hill wrote this review.

Had a lovely weekend as always in london. We stayed at the Novotel TowerHill again like last year and previous years. But unfortunatly the hotel was not as we remembered. It was busier than normal See More  Read more information which didnt help. The chambermaid waited outside our room from 7.30am with her trolley for us to leave our room which i found a little annoying as you were very aware she was there as our room was thelast in corridor near the lifts, she quickly made up our room while we were in breakfast and on the second day did not make up the childrens sofa bed so they had no bed sheets we came back late sodid not know until bedtime. Also the shower leaked from one of the holes and sealant broken around the edge of the shower door water fired out soaking the entire floor after each use. Also the sink anddrains smelt bad quite sickly. We ordered room service which arrived 1and a half hours later, But in fairness they brought us complimentary drinks while we waited and the meal was also free, theywere very applogetic as restuarant very busy. The following night in the bar though the restaurant was not busy and the children ordered Cheeseburgers from the kids menu, They still had not arrived after30minutes and the bar lady was very sorry and said they would be here shortly which was fine but when the did arrive luckily I cut my 5 year olds burger in half before she took a bite as it was rawin the middle we checked my 9 year olds before he took a bite and his was bleeding in the middle. So they sent a Beefburger that took 50min to arrive that wasnt even cooked. I was annoyed as you haveto be very careful with cooked meats especially with children and been from the kids menu you would hope extra care would be taken, My worry was if i had not have cut it in half and seen it i couldhave had 2 very sick children for the rest of our stay. They did re cook the meals which we did have to pay for as we did another lady on the table near us sent her meal back as the meat was raw. It putus off room service and bar food for the rest of our stay. The staff were friendly enough. But at the end of the day this is not a cheap hotel to stay in so I expect better and the rooms need fixingup a bit to a higher standard especially the bathrooms. We have stayed in Novotels all over london and have never had a problem they are usually a clean well kept hotel with excellent services. Butvery good location and if improvements made would stay there again. my mum and I took my 5 year old to see High School musical as she loves the movies. The show in Hammersmith was fantastic, the cast, the singing everything was 100%. My duaghter loved it and so did her nana who is not a fan of the film but got straight into the show and thoroughly enjoyed it. And the cast looked similar to those inthe movie which helped especially for a young audience who know the movie cast and my duaghter knew who they all were straight away her favourite is Troy who did an excellent performance, the acting, the music and the dancing and costumes were outstanding. An excellent family show would highly recommend.   Collapse  Hide

Great Weekend in London

Stay Date: 15/03/08, a customer who stayed at 4* Novotel London Tower Bridge in Tower Hill wrote this review.

We arrived to our Hotel early; the room was ready! We dropped off our bags and 'tubed' across to the British Museum (Tottenham Court Road). We spent several hours here! Just had time to pop back to See More  Read more information the Hotel and freshen up! Back on the Tube and once again back to Tottenham Court Road for We Will Rock You (our son's birthday treat)! It was Brilliant! Tired but happy back to the Hotel for a drinkand some 'chips'! Up bright and early to a wonderful breakfast! Beautifully laid out and plenty of everything. A walk down to Tower Bridge Dock and a lovely 'wet' boat ride to the 02. A fantasticway to see this rather impressive building. Again we spent several hours here! Once we had looked around the Exhibition we had a well deserved coffee and cake in one of the many eateries that were onoffer. Back to the Hotel for one last cup of coffee and to pick up our suitcase. Really close to the Tower Tube station we picked up the next tube to Kings Cross; and then a leisurely route home! Areally great weekend. Lovely to have someone else planning everything for us! Times seemed a little 'inconvenient' when we first had the notification through; but looking back it was ideal!   Collapse  Hide

The hotel was fantastic value, even with the tickets for theexhibition included, worked out to be cheaper than their normal tariff and had breakfast included! Fantastic Weekend

Stay Date: 08/03/08, a customer from King's Lynn who stayed at 4* Novotel London Tower Bridge in Tower Hill wrote this review.

The whole weekend went without a hitch. Trains were on time, we were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel very early on and check in later. The staff were friendly, the children were given a See More  Read more information small boxed game each (very useful for a 4 and 6 year old) and we were directed to our room on the seventh floor. We had been upgraded to a superior family room which had a separate lounge area withsofa bed. The sofa bed had been made up ready for the children and they were very excited. The room over looked the Tower of London, which was nice at night, and we were not bothered by any noise. Thefacilities were clean and modern (the only draw back was that there were not enough pillows for the large double bed - but I know this could have been rectified had I been bothered to ask). We ate inthe hotel's Pepys Bar, which we found reasonable in price and child friendly. My eldest son was impressed with the free to play PS2 on offer as well. The breakfast was the usual all you can eat buffetat a very good standard. We had breakfast at about 7.30 which meant we missed the Sunday morning 8.30 rush. I would stay at this hotel again, it was very easy to find just off the Tower HillUnderground stop and the service received was fantastic.   Collapse  Hide
