A great way to spend a few days. Boat was superb. I think this needs to be addressed as we had quite an argument about it on our return trip. Bruges is a lovely city for a few days. Easy to get around. Rather expensive and there is an organised trip which is cheaper but is was full, so if you want to do it book ahead.   Collapse  Hide

Great 2 nights in Bruges

Stay Date: 14/02/13, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Koffieboontje in Bruges wrote this review.

We went as a family group of three couples. I was very anxious about the hotel after reading the reviews on trip advisor but it was absolutely fine. The location was perfect - just off the main See More  Read more information square - with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants! The room was clean, the bed was really comfortable and the buffet breakfast had plenty of choice. We were pleased to have tea and coffee makingfacilities in the room and a hairdryer in the bathroom as once again I came away without one! We found a couple of really good bars, one was called Tom's bar and served a huge amount of beers, the waiterwas very good at helping us choose especially us ladies. We found the fruit beers very refreshing and we even tasted champagne beer which was most enjoyable. The other bar was called Joey's cafe whereonce again the waiter was very helpful and had over 400 beers to choose from, needless to say we stayed a few hours. Cookies was another great find serving tapas, we chose the selection at a set price,it was excellent!!! We toured the brewery while we were there, that was a great way to spend an hour as you get a beer at the end of the tour.   Collapse  Hide

Bruges Mini-Break

Stay Date: 03/06/13, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 3* Koffieboontje in Bruges wrote this review.

From stepping on the Pride of Bruges P&O ferry at Hull on Monday afternoon, to arriving back again on the Friday morning, the minbreak was relaxing yet full of interest. We had been before in the See More  Read more information autumn time but particularly wanted to visit the city in mid-summer to experience the outdoor eating, drinking and sightseeing. We were not disappointed. The Koffieboontje Hotel we stayed at was only40m off the main square (Markt) and you can easily walk to any point within the canal ring within 20 minutes. We strolled along the canals, through green parks and along narrow streets with wonderfularchitecture. Over our 3 days in the city, we managed to cover almost all the major sights and attractions. We sampled a good selection of the array of local beers (some over 9%!) and even managed tofind a bar offering free beer one lunchtime! Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable 4 night break which we will look to repeat again in the not too distant future.   Collapse  Hide

Mini Cruise to Bruges!!!

Stay Date: 22/03/08, a customer from Northamptonshire who stayed at 3* Martins Brugge in Bruges wrote this review.

The cabins were basic and small but they were clean and very warm and perfect really for the amount of time spent in them.We booked for dinner that night and breakfast for the following morning in See More  Read more information the buffet restaurant and we received a bit of a discount as we booked both together.Dinner and breakfast was really good.Plenty of choice and you could help yourself to as much as youliked!Entertainment on board was good, there was stuff to do for kids,shopping,bingo,singer/band and the casino. In the morning coaches are there to take you to Bruges for the day and will pick you up late afternoon.Ifyou are returning the same day, your luggage can be left in your cabin. After being dropped off at the bus station/train station we decided to get the local bus to our hotel as it was in thecentre,Markt Square and was only a couple of Euros.Staff at the bus station were very helpful and the driver told us when to get off so we didn't go to far.Hotel was the Martins Brugge,to early to check inbut the hotel will store your bags. We found the hotel staff quite rude and not very helpful unlike the locals who were. The hotel however was clean and rooms were nice.Hotel had its own bar which wasnice and breakfast was good. Its location was great & central to everything. When you check in you get a card which gets you discounts off attractions and sites in Bruges! So despite the staff I wouldstill recommend it.Bruges is a beautiful place with many things to visit.I would recommend the Beer Museum not just because of the free beer at the end, but it was very interesting and the guide we hadwas fab!Yellow bus tour of Bruges was brill, you see many sites and is available in many differnt languages as you wear headphones and choose your language.Belfry is a must,366 steps with peopleclimbing up and down on the same staircase, can get a bit cramped on some of the smaller stairs as they are not that big,not for those that don't like enclosed spaces! But when you get to the top the viewsare Great! We had many waffles and chocolates and my other half loved sampling the Belgian beer!Meals and drinks can be quite expensive in the square as its for the tourists, you could find cheaper placesto eat and drink but it adds to the atmosphere and sights in the main square. If you go knowing its not a cheap place you won't be too shocked then at the prices,we didn't mind paying more for thingsas it was such a nice place.Next day hotel will store your luggage again so you can go off exploring. My advice would be to plan what it is you want to do and get a guide book too,as there is so muchto do.Its not so bad if you are there for a night as you have more time.   Collapse  Hide

Martins Bruges Hotel

Stay Date: 12/10/08, a customer from Leicester who stayed at 3* Martins Brugge in Bruges wrote this review.

It was easy to walk to the hotel from Bruges bus station - ten minutes at the most and we loved the location of the hotel - right in the centre behind the Belfry and the Square. Our rooms werent See More  Read more information ready but we were able to leave our luggage in a storage cupboard which was good. The double bed we had was huge, even though the room wasnt, but the room was big enough to not get in each others way.The room was nicely decorated and the bathroom was lovely. The bed itself was so comfy - I dont think I have ever had such a good night's sleep in a hotel bed before!! The other members of our group hada twin room but the beds were pushed together - this was easily solved by rearranging the furniture a little and they then had seperate beds with a gap between. The buffet breakfast the next morningwas delicious and had a large variety of meats, breads, cereals, fruit and also cooked things i.e. streaky bacon and sausages! More than enough there for everyone.   Collapse  Hide

Short Break in Bruges

Stay Date: 11/12/06, a customer who stayed at 3* Olympia Hotel in Bruges wrote this review.

What a lovely town. Larger than you think and beautifully lit at Christmas time. Locals were very friendly and had a good sense of humour. The Olympia Hotel is a very lovely, family run, hotel. See More  Read more information Continental breaksfast was plentiful with a large selection. Shame it could not provide evening meals. Rooms were a good size and bed of a large size, possibly king sized. Very clean throughout. Receptionstaff very knowledgable and recommend good places to visit. Hotel is approx 15 minutes walk to centre of Bruges. Bruges can be visited on a day trip as it is only approx 1.5 hours from the ChannelTunnel. Excellent directions were given by Superbreak Holidays from the Channel Tunnel at Calais to the Hotel at Bruges. This Ice Sculpture exhibition outside the station at Brugge was fantastic. Wewould highly recommend a vist when this is on at Christmas time. If visiting this attraction wrap up warm as the inside of the venue is -6C and a cup of Hot Mulled wine was very welcome at the end ofthe displays at the 'Ice Bar' this year (2006) depicting a coral reef complete with seahorses holding up the bar counter, all in clear ice. Hotel Olympia staff recommended a day trip to Holland to atown called Sluis. On entering it looked very small but turned out to be a lovely day. Again locals very friendly and their command of english is excellent, better than our Dutch and French. Sluis isonly approx 15 miles from Brugge and about 30 mins drive at most. Quaint little town and excellent food.   Collapse  Hide

Short Stay in Bruges

Stay Date: 17/03/08, a customer from Midlothian who stayed at 3* Olympia Hotel in Bruges wrote this review.

Ferry looked as though it had been decorated in the 70's and not touched since, but it was good fun. We were the youngest onboard though! (23-24yrs). Meal onboard (buffet) was very disappointing and See More  Read more information definately not worth the money. However, staff were friendly and helpful, and a good time was had by all! Hotel Olympia - great location, a short walk into the centre of town. We arrived on a Monday- would have been good to have been told that everything in Bruges is shut on a Monday!! If travelling back on the same night, strongly recommend not spending a Monday in Bruges - little to do/see.Tuesday much better - plenty of museums, shops and cafes to visit. Horse and Cart trips are apprently a rip off so avoid them! Plenty of places to eat - slightly harder for vegetarians to get variety. Overall a good trip, with minor flaws. Very good value for money. Our visit to Bruges

Stay Date: 24/11/12, a customer aged 25-44 who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

The bus is run by P&O so is all tied in together. This hotel was a recommendation by Superbreak and for 4 star inthe centre of Bruges fantastic value for money. The hotel is one of the nicest hotels we've stayed at. The buffet breakfast was fresh and plentiful, enough to kick start any day! We spent a coupleof days wandering round the city, at the markets, local eateries and bars. Bruges! A perfect weekend Excursion

Stay Date: 28/02/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Cambridge who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

I hadn't been to Bruges since I was a teenager on a school trip (a rather long time ago!) and so was looking forward to discovering the city with my partner, whose Christmas present this was. The See More  Read more information journey on Eurostar was smooth and efficient as always (definitely a more dignified way of travel compared with flying) and the connection in Brussels took us to Bruges in under an hour. It was justa short 10 minute walk from the railway station to our hotel, "Hotel Academie" in Wijngaardstraat, and from the moment we got there we were made to feel most welcome. The staff had out spacious roomall ready for us, so we were able to drop put bags and head out to explore straight away. Bruges is built on a decal making it perfect for strolling and walking, and it is worth turning off the mainstreets to meander down the side roads to absorb and enjoy the delightful 15th - 17th century Flemish architecture and the elegant waterways spanning the city. We had two delicious meals at theMaximillian restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. Eating out in Bruges, as in most major cities is not cheap, but many have a set menu at a more reasonable price. Breakfast at the hotel isfrom 7.30 till 10am and there is a plentiful supply of food, varying from cooked to cold buffet, breads, pastries and fruit. It's not fine dining, but there's loads to set you up for a good day'ssiteseeing. Everywhere we went we were shown friendliness, a smile and a warm welcome. We had a wonderful weekend and would recommend this as a destination to anyone.   Collapse  Hide

Fantastic time in Bruges

The hotel was plain fronted but in See More  Read more information keeping with other buildings but once inside it was a different matter!! The hotel is beautiful and great attention to detail is obvious. It is very classy with furnishings of a high qualitythroughout. The staff are brilliant and nothing is too much trouble. We we're given a card to enable us to get a 4€ discount at Ice Magic (each) and various discounts at lots of other attractions. Free WiFiwas also a bonus. The breakfast, mainly continental, was abundant and set in a lovely 'cellar' type room, plenty to eat to keep even the hungriest person going all day!! There is also a gym and fitnessfacilities along with beauty treatments, although we did not use these. The siting of the hotel was great for the coach drop off point from Zeebrugge, a lovely 7 minute stroll through Minnewaterpark. Also very near to some of the best restaurants we have found in Bruges on our previous visits were only minutes away, as was Half Moon brewery where not only can you purchase the renowned Zot beer, but also have a beautiful lunch. The Christmas markets are not huge but do have an ice rink. Our stay was in early March and the town was just getting crowded. It would be best to avoid the high season. Weenjoyed just walking round Bruges - it's very photogenic. Long weekend in Bruges

Stay Date: 08/04/17, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

We visited Bruges as a party of 3 adults. Our trip allowed us 3 full days of site-seeing, which felt about right. We stayed in the Academie Hotel which is in a great location close to the See More  Read more information Minnewater. It is close to the main centre but in a fairly quiet location in a cobbled side street. It was an easy 10 minute walk from the railway station. The hotel is lovely. Rooms are of a good standard andwe had a view over the terrace bar. The staff were exceptionally friendly and all spoke good English. The buffet breakfast was fantastic with everything you could want, even sparkling wine. Bruges issmall and we walked everywhere and took in most of the sites. It is worth taking a boat trip which lasts a good half hour and takes you around the whole city via the canals. Several companies runthese trips, but the route and price is always the same. If you are interested in museums and churches, it is worth getting a museum pass at 20 euros. This lasts 3 days and gives entry to most of the mainattractions. It is worth going up the Belfrey for the fantastic view, but it is 366 steps up a narrow spiral staircase so not for the fainthearted. Bruges is very traditional and feels like a verysafe place to be. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful and we would recommend it as a relaxing destination for a short break.   Collapse  Hide

Good location, nice hotel

Stay Date: 25/09/17, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

The hotel is in a good location with many good restaurants, bars etc very close by. It is also close to shopping and nowhere in Bruges is too far for those without walking problems. The hotel is See More  Read more information close to the Beguinage and the beautiful Minnewater Lake. The staff were polite and helpful, the hotel in good decorative order, immaculately clean and the room a good size. Our windows opened out ontothe hotel courtyard with views over the rooftops. There was no noise either at night or afternoon, with blackout curtains, so you could catch up on sleep even in the daytime. Breakfast was excellentwith a vast choice and as much as you wanted. The only negative I noticed was that on our twin beds the quilts were just the size of a single bed, so when you rolled over your back was uncovered. Bruges Short Break-Highly Reccomended!

Stay Date: 29/12/06, a customer from Tyne and Wear who stayed at 4* Hotel Navarra Bruges in Bruges wrote this review.

Bruges is a beautiful medieval city and fantastic for a short break as its pretty compact and centred around the huge, central Markt Square. We walked the main shopping streets on day one and hired See More  Read more information cycles on day two which was a fantastic way to explore the canals and parks which criss cross the city. Theres loads of cycle paths and hire is very reasonable-around 12 euro a day. If you can facethe climb, the Belfry Tower in Markt Square is well worth a visit for the fantastic views across the city and beyond, but be warned the stairs are very steep at the top! We also went ice skating in thesquare, which ws great fun and again, very reasonably priced.Sadly, the Christmas market was a real disappointment but the shopping in the city centre made up for this-there are some brilliantchildrens and toy shops plus all the major European brands. Theres an abundance of places to eat and drink-tea rooms selling hot drinks and snacks and plenty of restaurants- even a Pizza Hut! I did noticea lack of fast food places, but to be honest, that was quite refreshing! All in al I'd highly recommend the place for couples, families or singles and I intend to return in the Spring.   Collapse  Hide
