Our Stay at the Hickstead Hotel

Stay Date: 16/12/06, a customer who stayed at 3* Hickstead Hotel in Brighton (Nr) wrote this review.

We stayed at the Hickstead Hotel as we wanted to attend a wedding between there and Brighton. As all the hotels in Brighton wanted a two-night stay we opted for nearby Hickstead. It was close to the See More  Read more information motorway but also right on the South Downs. We were really pleased with the service at the hotel and also the price. Whilst the Hotel is fairly close to the motorway, you feel like you are stayingin the middle of the country. The room was very spacious and the breakfast was fantastic with everything you need to tackle a post-wedding hangover. All needs and tastes were catered for in awell-stocked breakfast buffet. Staff were also keen to help with specific requests for food and drink. The cost of the hotel was really great. A number of friends stayed at the nearby Hickstead Travelodge foronly three pound less than us. Their breakfast was purchased separately from the rubbish Little Chef at a ridiculous price and they were troubled through the night by trucks and cars visiting thepetrol station. We felt very smug that we had got a great deal through Superbreak!   Collapse  Hide

Great Hotel

Stay Date: 29/08/09, a customer from Hertfordshire who stayed at 3* Hickstead Hotel in Brighton (Nr) wrote this review.

We had a great stay at the Hickstead Hotel - mostly, the staff were the highlight, example: I popped to the restaurant and asked for a glass of warm milk for my son when we arrived. The response I See More  Read more information got was "of course madame, would you like me to bring it to your room? what number?" and it was of course brought and we were not charged for it. Example 2: arriving for breakfast day two -"goodmorning mrs macmull would you like the same table?" as they were already carrying he highchair across. Just general helpfulness! Seems a little thing but you often don't get it! Even the night receptionistkept my hubby company while he was strolling the corridor trying to settle the baby. The room was a fab size and the supplied cot was a decent and clean graco one with spotless bedding. It did have afunny smell in the room - maybe the plumbing. Food was lovely and they were happy to make anything we asked for to our requirements. 15 mins to Brighton it was ideal. Just a great getaway willdefinately return.   Collapse  Hide

Stratford

Stay Date: 29/03/08, a customer from Birmingham who stayed at 2* Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton wrote this review.

We arrived the Friday evening, very happy with the hotel. We went to the nearby Thai restaurant which, whilst the food was good, was VERY expensive. The next day we took the hop on/hop off bus See More  Read more information around Stratford, stopping at two places (Shakespeare's and Anne Hathaway's place) and then after or evening meal we took in the Merchant of Venice, which was fabulous. I am a lifelong Shakespeare fan,and my husband, who is American, was interested in seeing a Shakespeare play in it's original home, having only seen American TV adaptations. He hung onto his seat in the tense courtroom scene ("thepound of flesh") and laughed at the fast paced comedy, with it's intermittent intense drama. He recognised several phrases which have become sayings amongst us ("I'll have my bond!" and "The quality omercy is not strained....") and was so impressed that we have rebooked to see a Midsummer Night's Dream in July, when we will spend another weekend here with a Superbreak hotel. It snowed too! whichdid not detract from our stay.   Collapse  Hide

Old Ship Hotel

Stay Date: 01/12/07, a customer from Dorking who stayed at 4* The Old Ship Hotel in Brighton wrote this review.

Weekend break for 40th birthday. Reception staff not very welcoming - need more training. Hadn't allocated me a room on arrival, so had no details of my booking which I made 2 months in advance. See More  Read more information Offered 2 single rooms! When I started to get a little irritated eventually gave me the room I'd booked for despite the hotel being full as there was a wedding reception taking place that day.Receptionist was embarrassed and did not offer any apology and very unsure how to deal with the situation. I do wonder how he would have resolved the situation if he hadn't managed to swap a few rooms around -moved me & my mother to another hotel at their expense?   Collapse  Hide

My friend Sally and I stayed at the Royal Albion Hotel. It has a wonderful site facing the sea and Brighton Pier but is in need of a smartening up. Sally's room overlooking the sea was spacious, but See More  Read more information my first single was without natural light and small. They changed it for a satisfactory one on my request. I loved Brighton- the cafes and fish and chips on the front, the varied well-organizedfestival and the splendid museum where we saw two good exhibitions on Chinoiserie and the Little Black Dress. Royal Albion - Brighton

Stay Date: 09/01/09, a customer from Plymouth who stayed at 2* Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton wrote this review.

This trip was not for pleasure. However, I am more than willing to make my views known on the hotel. To say it is run down is no exageration. Very good view of scaffolding. During my stay it was See More  Read more information also somewhat noisy due to teenagers running up and down the corridors during the night. I managed to get quite a cheap deal, so would not complain, but would not have been happy to pay the going rate. The breakfast however was more than adequate. The location was central, being directly opposite the Brighton Pier. Brighton itself is allways worth a visit. It is a very vibrant city with a good nightlife and plenty of shopping. The old lanes are well worth a visit for something different.   Collapse  Hide
