Belgium Holiday Reviews

Manneken Pis, Brussels, Belgium

Belgium is renowned for its luxurious chocolate, unique beer, world-class art and fairytale castles. Enjoy a romantic canal cruise in Bruges or shop in Antwerp's exquisite diamond boutiques. Brussels offers diverse architectural styles and atmospheric nightlife in the stylish Art Nouveau grand cafes.

As well as flights, Belgium is well connected via the Eurostar network with direct trains from London to Brussels. From Brussels you can travel onwards to Bruges, Ghent and Ostend using local rail services. You can also travel to Belgium via P and O ferries with daily sailings from Hull to Zeebrugge.

  • Brussels is Belgium's largest city and also the capital but still retains a small town charm and a cosmopolitan atmosphere thanks to its mix of French and Flemish cultures. Don't miss the world-famous Mannekin Pis, the futuristic Atomium and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts.
  • Bruges also known as "the Venice of the North" is an historic and picturesque town close to the North Sea coast. Famous as a centre for trade and commerce during the Middle Ages, Bruges boasts magnificent medieval buildings such as the Church of our Lady who's tower gives incredible views across the town and beyond.
  • Antwerp is world-renowned for its trade in diamonds. Be sure to visit the Diamond Quarter which is a short walk from the city's main shopping streets. Antwerp is also famous as a centre of the arts with paintings by artists such as Rubens and van Dyck displayed in historic buildings and museums around the city.
Whether you choose to visit Brussels, Bruges or Antwerp or other Belgian towns such as Liege, Namur or Ostend; we're sure you'll love a SuperBreak to Belgium.

Stay Date: 19/03/14, a customer from York who stayed at 5* Dukes Palace Hotel in Bruges wrote this review.

The Duke’s Palace is nothing short of extraordinary. The supreme level of luxury is to die for – the plush furniture, the spacious rooms, the comfy bed and the modern facilities are all of the very See More  Read more information highest order. The bathroom was so big, I could have easily had a party in there. Bruges itself is, of course, the star attraction – the pretty medieval town is primed for exploring from thiscentrally located hotel. The vibrant Market Square is a mere 5 minute walk away. The hotel’s breakfast was quite easily the best I’ve ever had; an extensive buffet of high quality foods, don’t miss theBelgian chocolate and Cava – surely the only way to set yourself up for the day. Staying in the five star luxury of this hotel felt very decadent indeed – I’d return in a heartbeat, and thoroughlyrecommend it for an extra-special stay in beautiful Bruges.   Collapse  Hide

Bruges Short Break-Highly Reccomended!

Stay Date: 29/12/06, a customer from Tyne and Wear who stayed at 4* Hotel Navarra Bruges in Bruges wrote this review.

Bruges is a beautiful medieval city and fantastic for a short break as its pretty compact and centred around the huge, central Markt Square. We walked the main shopping streets on day one and hired See More  Read more information cycles on day two which was a fantastic way to explore the canals and parks which criss cross the city. Theres loads of cycle paths and hire is very reasonable-around 12 euro a day. If you can facethe climb, the Belfry Tower in Markt Square is well worth a visit for the fantastic views across the city and beyond, but be warned the stairs are very steep at the top! We also went ice skating in thesquare, which ws great fun and again, very reasonably priced.Sadly, the Christmas market was a real disappointment but the shopping in the city centre made up for this-there are some brilliantchildrens and toy shops plus all the major European brands. Theres an abundance of places to eat and drink-tea rooms selling hot drinks and snacks and plenty of restaurants- even a Pizza Hut! I did noticea lack of fast food places, but to be honest, that was quite refreshing! All in al I'd highly recommend the place for couples, families or singles and I intend to return in the Spring.   Collapse  Hide

An Appreciation of What Was Done for Us

Stay Date: 21/09/07, a customer who stayed at 4* Novotel Ypres Non Refundable in Ypres wrote this review.

My wife and I decided we want to learn more about the people and times of WWI. We also wanted to pay our respects to the fallen and to hear the Last Post being played at the Menem Gate. The holiday See More  Read more information was an emotional experience for both us as we came to learn more and more of the period between 1914 -1918 during our 4 day visit. Friendly, Well Located Hotel Offering Good Value

Stay Date: 06/03/11, a customer who stayed at 4* Novotel Ypres Non Refundable in Ypres wrote this review.

My partner and i stayed here for 2 nights to visit the ww1 battlefields, cemetaries and monuments. The hotel is very centrally situated and is literally a 2 minute walk from the menin gate and See More  Read more information market square. It has a very good underground car park with a lift directly to the reception or to your floor for the reasonable cost of 11 euro for each 24hr period. All of the staff we came into contactwith spoke good english and were very friendly and helpful. The room was of a very good size with a comfortable king size bed along with a decent sized sofa which would convert into a bed. The toiletwas separate to the bath/shower room, which is a useful facility. The room was in good repair and offered free tea and coffee facilities, minibar, tv with the main english channels and ample storagespace. The buffet breakfast is absolutely excellent with a very wide range of food and drink available including a decent full cooked breakfast. We'll certainly be looking to stay again when we visitypres in the future.   Collapse  Hide

Our standard room was perfect, large, comfortable and always warm (we were there in November), with superb bathroom with shower and separate bath. We would look forward to returning. We arrived by car, and our only difficulty was manoeuvringour car from the narrow street into the hotel's underground car park via the vehicle lift. However, having done it once, I would have no qualms about next time, and it was certainly worth the 20euros/night for peace of mind. All part of the adventure of a few days in Bruges. Away From it All in Bruges

Stay Date: 18/06/13, a customer who stayed at 4* Hotel Navarra Bruges in Bruges wrote this review.

First, the Eurostar - brilliant, altogether very smooth journey from Manchester. Very pleased with Hotel Navarra, location, comfort, food, staff. Loved Bruges but found all the entrance fees of all See More  Read more information the places we would have liked to have visited added up to beyond our budget so we had to be selective. I was disappointed with St. John's Hospital because the medical history section was beingrevamped and was absent and there wasn't a notice until we were past the pay desk! We walked a great distance over the two days we were there and each street was a delight - very photogenic. It was worththe walk to the Lace Centre and Bruges Folk Museum which were off the beaten track. The Markt and Burg were very busy during the day with day trippers, so it paid to go out early. We visited theGroeningemuseum which was excellent and enjoyed the canal trip, although with the commentary in three languages we were past the object of interest before we knew what we were looking at! Beautiful Bruges

Stay Date: 08/11/13, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Hotel Navarra Bruges in Bruges wrote this review.

See More  Read more information Our room was a little on the small side though had everything you needed. Staff were friendly and breakfasts good. It was nice to have the pool and sauna even though it has to be said the pool istiny! Would advise buying the bruges city card as this gives you free entry to many attractions. The brewery visit was fantastic and climbing the belfry tower hard work but well worth it! The cardalso gets you in to places like the chip museum and chocolate museum~if you had paid the proper entrance fee for these you would feel properly ripped off! Would only advise going if you have 10 mins tospare and need to shelter from the rain! Don't miss out on a bruges hot chocolate. The old chocolate shop in Mariaastraat was like stepping back in time and certainly the best hot chocolate I haveever tasted.   Collapse  Hide

Bruges! A perfect weekend Excursion

Stay Date: 28/02/14, a customer aged 45-64 from Cambridge who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

I hadn't been to Bruges since I was a teenager on a school trip (a rather long time ago!) and so was looking forward to discovering the city with my partner, whose Christmas present this was. The See More  Read more information journey on Eurostar was smooth and efficient as always (definitely a more dignified way of travel compared with flying) and the connection in Brussels took us to Bruges in under an hour. It was justa short 10 minute walk from the railway station to our hotel, "Hotel Academie" in Wijngaardstraat, and from the moment we got there we were made to feel most welcome. The staff had out spacious roomall ready for us, so we were able to drop put bags and head out to explore straight away. Bruges is built on a decal making it perfect for strolling and walking, and it is worth turning off the mainstreets to meander down the side roads to absorb and enjoy the delightful 15th - 17th century Flemish architecture and the elegant waterways spanning the city. We had two delicious meals at theMaximillian restaurant just around the corner from the hotel. Eating out in Bruges, as in most major cities is not cheap, but many have a set menu at a more reasonable price. Breakfast at the hotel isfrom 7.30 till 10am and there is a plentiful supply of food, varying from cooked to cold buffet, breads, pastries and fruit. It's not fine dining, but there's loads to set you up for a good day'ssiteseeing. Everywhere we went we were shown friendliness, a smile and a warm welcome. We had a wonderful weekend and would recommend this as a destination to anyone.   Collapse  Hide

Many attractions are accessiblethis way such as the Parliamentarium and the Atominum. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing the Chinese President and his entourage arrive at the Sheraton Hotel, which was opposite. Tip: ifyou want to buy bottled Belgian beer, check out the Carrefour 'local' shop near the Grand Place. The price is very reasonable. For example some of the Leffe beers were almost twice the price in anearby specialist Belgian beer shop!   Collapse  Hide

Week stay in Bruges

Stay Date: 24/11/14, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Rosenburg Hotel in Bruges wrote this review.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bruges - lots to see and do and just wander the streets and canals. However the Hotel Rosenburg does not live up to its 4 stars. Staff were very helpful and See More  Read more information pleasant and the breakfast more than adequate and all very clean. However the bedroom was a real disappointment. A modern, clean bathroom but with a glass door - being internal it was essential to turnon the light which rendered the door transparent and not helped by loo positioned right by the door. It left nothing to the imagination - we were two friends but too much detail for even a marriedcouple!! The bedroom was badly laid out and not good use of available space. The twin beds were squashed together with about 9" to get along one side with a sloping roof and little more the other side. This left a large open area in the middle of the room which only highlighted the grubby condition of the carpet with several bad stains - a good clean should have taken place. Despite the reasonablewalking distance into town, given the problems with the bedroom, I would not stay here again nor recommend it.   Collapse  Hide
