Belgium Holiday Reviews

Manneken Pis, Brussels, Belgium

Belgium is renowned for its luxurious chocolate, unique beer, world-class art and fairytale castles. Enjoy a romantic canal cruise in Bruges or shop in Antwerp's exquisite diamond boutiques. Brussels offers diverse architectural styles and atmospheric nightlife in the stylish Art Nouveau grand cafes.

As well as flights, Belgium is well connected via the Eurostar network with direct trains from London to Brussels. From Brussels you can travel onwards to Bruges, Ghent and Ostend using local rail services. You can also travel to Belgium via P and O ferries with daily sailings from Hull to Zeebrugge.

  • Brussels is Belgium's largest city and also the capital but still retains a small town charm and a cosmopolitan atmosphere thanks to its mix of French and Flemish cultures. Don't miss the world-famous Mannekin Pis, the futuristic Atomium and the Royal Museums of Fine Arts.
  • Bruges also known as "the Venice of the North" is an historic and picturesque town close to the North Sea coast. Famous as a centre for trade and commerce during the Middle Ages, Bruges boasts magnificent medieval buildings such as the Church of our Lady who's tower gives incredible views across the town and beyond.
  • Antwerp is world-renowned for its trade in diamonds. Be sure to visit the Diamond Quarter which is a short walk from the city's main shopping streets. Antwerp is also famous as a centre of the arts with paintings by artists such as Rubens and van Dyck displayed in historic buildings and museums around the city.
Whether you choose to visit Brussels, Bruges or Antwerp or other Belgian towns such as Liege, Namur or Ostend; we're sure you'll love a SuperBreak to Belgium.

Good location, nice hotel

Stay Date: 25/09/17, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Hotel Academie in Bruges wrote this review.

The hotel is in a good location with many good restaurants, bars etc very close by. It is also close to shopping and nowhere in Bruges is too far for those without walking problems. The hotel is See More  Read more information close to the Beguinage and the beautiful Minnewater Lake. The staff were polite and helpful, the hotel in good decorative order, immaculately clean and the room a good size. Our windows opened out ontothe hotel courtyard with views over the rooftops. There was no noise either at night or afternoon, with blackout curtains, so you could catch up on sleep even in the daytime. Breakfast was excellentwith a vast choice and as much as you wanted. The only negative I noticed was that on our twin beds the quilts were just the size of a single bed, so when you rolled over your back was uncovered. Not aproblem in warm weather, but in Winter it would be and would not ensure a good comfortable sleep. Otherwise everything was excellent and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel.   Collapse  Hide

Bruges at Christmas

Stay Date: 03/12/17, a customer aged 25-44 from Luton who stayed at 4* Grand Hotel Casselbergh Bruges in Bruges wrote this review.

We had an excellent stay at the Grand Hotel Casselberg. The hotel is ideally located just off the Burg square- a 2 mins walk from the Market Square. Handy for being in the centre of Bruges, but far See More  Read more information enough out so that it is not noisy. It's also perfect to drop off some shopping mid way through your day so you don't have to carry everything around with you. Head out in the other direction and thehotel backs onto the canal, with its pretty bridges. A lovely stroll alongside the canal is not to be missed. This is our second stay and we wouldn't not stay anywhere else, it's that good. Rooms arelarge, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is a large selection of cooked and continental and staff are attentive and polite. The hotel bar is worth a visit, it's large with comfortable armchairs androaring fires, a lovely place to sit and have a local beer at the end of a days shopping. Prices are very reasonable and they have a fair selection to choose from. We found it a perfect spot tounwind, rather than squeezing into a packed bar in Central Bruges. There is always something to do in Bruges, and nothing is too far away. You can plan a packed itinerary, or just mooch around the shops andenjoy the chocolate! Stop for a hot chocolate and a waffle. If you visit at Christmas, head to the Christmas Market and try some mulled wine or tartiflette from the stalls. Bruges is stunning andthere is always something to see, don't forget to look up, some of the most quirky architecture is on top of the buildings and churches. There are lots of chocolate shops (worth looking at as they dodiffer in prices and offerings), lace shops (Serena's is a gem) and some beautiful antique shops. If you fancy a further afield trip, there are Flanders Field tours (can recommend Quasimodo tours), whichis a sobering reminder of the devastating losses from the First World War. All in all Bruges is an absolutely stunning city and Grand Hotel Casselberg the perfect accommodation. We wouldn't hesitateto return and are already planning our next trip.   Collapse  Hide
