A customer who stayed at 2* Knavesmire Manor Hotel in York wrote this review.
Arriving we were given the key to room 1 a garden room (described as bright south facing room in the hotel brochure), the room smelt very musty, and was in need of a good dust, also the furniture and decoration was very old and shabby the carpet had various black dirty marks all over, it, and the ensuite shower room had dust webs clinging to the tiles, when trying to use the shower it was either scalding hot or freezing cold, and on Sunday morning there was no hot water at all leaving my wife to try and wash her hair over the hand basin in lukewarm water. Breakfast is served in the basement, which has badly cracked and broke floor tiles, one window pane smashed and repaired with cardboard, and Formica tables , which is not what you expect when you book a hotel that the brochure describes as a fine Georgian manor house. We did not bother to use the swimming pool after looking into the conservatory where is was housed, the pool was full of leaves and did not look very inviting at all, Outside the hanging baskets and pots are all empty and the garden furniture very faded and shabby. We decided not to stay for the third day and night after no hot water for a shower Sunday morning, and when arriving for breakfast being told there was nowhere to sit and that we would have to wait, when we left there was no apology either.

A customer from WARRINGTON who stayed at 2* Knavesmire Manor Hotel in York wrote this review.
Facilities at the Knavesmire Manor Hotel were very good. We had a good breakfast every morning; we only had one evening meal in the hotel restaurant which was excellent. Well stocked bar. We didn't want to take the car into York so the only downside for us was that it is about a 25 minute walk into the centre but it is on a good bus route, buses every 10 mins. Some of the places we visited and recommend - York Castle Museum, Railway Museum, Jorvik Viking Centre, York River Cruise. So much to do; we spent 3 nights in York and didn't have time to do everything we wanted so we'll definately be going back in the future.

A customer from Sherborne who stayed at 4* Ramada Fairfield Manor York in York wrote this review.
We were visiting our son and daughter-in-law for the baptism of their first child. We found the hotel comfortable and good value for money although we thought that the bar meals were expensive. The hot tap in the bathroom made an horrendous noise! The hotel is very well situated just off the ring road. It is a short car journey into York on the A19. There is a huge Tesco nearby as well for petrol etc. Very convenient.

A customer from EDINBURGH who stayed at 3* Elmbank Hotel in York wrote this review.
Hotel location ideal. Internal hotel decor (arts & crafts) unique & fascinating. External appearance shabby. Clean quiet room but with mildewed wallpaper and fusty smell. It could be a gem with with a lot of work. Service poor especially when they checked us out after one night when we were booked for 3! However they did eventually sort it out & apologised. Breakfast OK but because it was a buffet sometimes food was only warm. As for York itself, it was amazing. We bought 2 York passes and visited about 12 attractions listed in the guide book over 2 full days as well as walking the walls and just exploring over the other day. Nowhere disappointed us. The York Pass is very good value. People were very friendly and helpful. We hope to go back and would highly recommend York as a destination for all ages.
