Decided to book a night in Grasmere with 2 sons (15 & 11) for some walking and fresh air after the festive season. Booked a triple room at the Macdonald Swan Hotel. Hotel staff were very welcoming. See More  Read more information Room was good size, clean and well appointed. Food in hotel restaurant was excellent with service to match. Cosy fires in the lounge areas encouraged us to relax before we retired for the evening.Breakfast was good with usual selection available. On checkout given gingerbread for our journey home. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our trip and managed to complete walk up High Street from Haweswater too.   Collapse  Hide

Short Break in Windermere

Stay Date: 18/01/13, a customer aged 65+ who stayed at 4* Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel in Windermere wrote this review.

This was a very brief break merely to 'get away from it all' and the weather was not conducive to exploration - much of which we have seen before in the Lake District. See More  Read more information   Collapse  Hide

Weekend in Bowness on Windermere

Stay Date: 25/01/13, a customer aged 45-64 from Chester Le Street who stayed at 4* Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Bowness-on-Windermere wrote this review.

Set off early Friday 25th Jan to get there before bad snow forecast.Just made it in time when whole area was covered in 6 inches in a couple of hours.Could not travel anywhere so visited couple of See More  Read more information bars before a meal in our hotel The Old England. The Albert and The Royal Oak are two great pubs with lots of atmosphere, well worth visiting. Our hotel although a little pricey was a great place tostay. Large clean modern room, fantastic bathroom, good spa facilities, polite friendly staff. The evening meal was part of the superbreak deal and was excellent apart from the service which was really slowconsidering only a few diners were eating. On Sat night we ate at the Tapas bar on the main street which was disapointing and not very authentic spanish tasting food ,(cured meats tasted like Tescos). On the Sunday most of the snow had gone and the roads were clear. We will be returning to Bowness in the future as its a great place to stay for a short break, only next time not in the middle ofWinter.   Collapse  Hide

Short Break in The Lakes

Stay Date: 30/01/13, a customer aged 45-64 who stayed at 4* Beech Hill Hotel & Spa in Windermere wrote this review.

The hotel is ideally situated on the banks of Lake Windermere, with breathtaking views from the room, the bar and restaurant. There are a number of stairs within the hotel which some guests may find See More  Read more information challenging. The room was spotless, warm and comfortable, however the radiator in the corridor did not work so it was cold when stepping out of the room. The bar prices were fair, and we had anexcellent meal in the restaurant. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked. Special mention must go to the staff who appeared to work extremely long hours, but always with a smile on their faces - servicewas excellent - they couldn't do enough.   Collapse  Hide
