I was given a gift voucher for two for lunch on the Thames. The boat was called The Symphony. We boarded at 12.30 and with the big windows and glass top I was hoping for a great lunch and superb views. After the waiter had checked the menu with. Everyone and I confirmed that I wanted the vegetarian main course we gave our drinks order. These were slow in coming but that was fine. Unfortunately while eating my starter I found a piece of plastic in it. I decided just to remove it and advise the waiter when he collected the plates. I quietly pointed it out and he said that he would inform the Manager and Chef. The main course was served and I was given chicken so I had to ask for my vegetarian main course, which meant that my husband had to wait for mine to arrive. The desert was fine. We were served coffee as the boat was coming back into dock so we had to rush it down as it was time to disembark. No one spoke to me about the plastic in my food. The boat was crowded and felt like a floating cafeteria with a quick turnaround. It certainly wasn't a fine dining experience. Perhaps at a quieter time of year it would be better. It felt rushed and certainly didn't meet our expectations. I did talk to the Manager at the end which I instigated but felt that there was little interest in my comments. As a London Tourist attraction it felt disappointing and I wouldn't recommend it. Collapse

We bought a package tour including London Eye (see separate article) and Bateaux London (90 mins cruise of River Thames plus a 3-course lunch). Boarding time starts at 12:30p.m. Embankment Pier, just across the street of Embankment station (underground line). Departure time: 1 p.m. prompt. Vouchers will be redeemed at the service counter at the pier. Our tour was a lunch tour, all tables were set according to the numbers of persons. There are also afternoon tea and dinner tours to choose from. The boat is essentially a wide glass boat with steel frame cover with 1800 view. It was very sturdy and travelled at a slow speed. The weather was sunny, we could see most of the prominent structures like London tower, London bridge, London Eye, Shard tower, Millennium bridge, 30 St Mary Axe (The Egg) etc. and a lot of historical, old wharf buildings with some artistically designed condos and apartments along the coastline in stark contrast. The 3-course menu featured a fresh and smoked salmon appetizer, chicken breast (a bit salty but tender) with vegetables and potatoes and a passion fruit and pineapple cake which was good. Coffee was complimentary. Service was nice. Timing was perfect. As soon as the lunch was done, it’s about time to go. We enjoyed the journey very much with a fond memory. Collapse

Celebrating a 'significant ' birthday I was given a gift voucher of lunch for two with wine and window seat, so following the instructions enclosed hubby duly made the booking. Fortunately he telephoned the day prior to our visit when he was informed that he would need the evoucher, as one hadn't been sent previously one was subsequently delivered into his email . We arrived early and sat in the waiting area where we whiled away the time watching guests boarding the Harmony. After this sailed our boat the Symphony docked and we boarded. Everyone was seated promptly and within 10 minutes our waitress arrived, introduced herself and enquired as to our preference for red or white wine, a pleasant bottle of white was promptly opened and served. The first course followed swiftly, smoked salmon and salmon terrine, shortly after came the supreme of chicken, then dessert of passion fruit and pineapple cake. All three courses were of a good quality. As the waiters and waitresses bustled efficiently too and fro we had travelled up to the Houses of Parliament, making a smooth turn here and then progressed at a comfortable speed back down the river passing many iconic buildings whilst a commentary was made and places of interest were pointed out. Coffee was served, unfortunately they had run out of decaf but I was pleased to be offered a refreshing cup of cranberry tea as a substitute. We had a very enjoyable experience and I felt that this was a lovely gift. My only concern would be that on a sunny day it could be uncomfortably hot on the Symphony as it is rather like a large floating greenhouse, pleasant on an overcast and drizzling May Day as we had, but something to bear in mind when booking. First time on a river cruise with meal, but to be honest it was great. From the moment we turned up at the pier, we was greeted and on board within 5 minutes. Once on board we was greeted by our waiter and taken to our table. Our package included all drinks. Once we set sail down the Thames the 1st course was served. I will say it is very romantic way to see London. All 3 courses was a set menu & the food was very good. Collapse
