Seville: Authentic Andalucia - 4 Day Break - Departing from Leeds/Bradford Airport

Join us for an exploration of all things Andalucian on our fascinating tours to the south of Spain. This 4 day break departing from Leeds/Bradford Airport is based in the incredible city of Seville and will allow you to experience the incredible spectacle of Semana Santa or Easter Week in Seville.

Holy Week, or Semana Santa, is an incredible spectacle like no other that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most visitors to Seville. This week-long event, celebrating the run-up to Easter, has been observed here for centuries in a way that no other city has come close. During this time the streets of Seville come alive with thousands of hooded figures, accompanied by brass bands, parading slowly behind swaying life-sized religious statues of the Virgin Mary and her Son. There are many processions every day, starting from around lunchtime on Palm Sunday and continuing through until Easter Sunday itself. Each procession makes its dignified way from local parish churches to the cathedral and back again in parades that can take many hours. Up to 70 church brotherhoods take part, each carrying their own colourfully-robed statues and vibrantly-depicted bible scenes. These are supported on elaborate floats, which are paraded through the streets surrounded by long lines of caped citizens and musicians. It can take up to 50 men, driven on by the banging of drums and the fanfare of trumpets, just to carry one magnificent float, so this is truly a sight to be seen.

You can also add many additional excursions to your short break in Seville – why not enjoy an evening of typical flamenco and tapas as an introduction to this fascinating region? Alternatively, discover the beautiful Moorish city of Granada or join a full day trip to Cordoba, once the capital of Islamic Spain. Take in the splendour of the La Mezquita, the Great Mosque; one of the wonders of Europe and enjoy strolling around the narrow alleyways of the picturesque Old Town and Jewish Quarter.
