I am writing this in response to my visit on 12/04/2017 First of all I would like to point out that we had saved up to give our group of 2adults and 3 children ( At adult prices)the opportunity of going to Chessington and we were hoping for a fun brilliant day with value for money I couldn't be far wrong and became very annoyed and disappointed that I put my family through this. I am not sure were to begin to be honest we travelled from Banbury so very early start lots of miles using lots of fuel obviously this is our choice to travel so after 2.5 hours of driving we arrived at the park at 9.50 to collect the pre booked tickets 1st que of half hour suppose this is expected as everyone arrives at the same time, yet having then got the tickets we went into the park and started to walk round. The teenagers downloaded the app for que times how can it be that as soon as the park opens they is already a 45-90 min wait so we joined a que for our 1st ride said 45mins we waited over a hour then walked to next ride by which time this que was 75min wait so that didn't happen we walked to the next ride said 45 mins ok we will que yet it was 1.5 hours so as you can imagine it was now 1.30 time to grab food and drink so did that, we lucky to have brought our own as the que for food was just as bad as the que for the rides we then walked to next ride which was a further 1.5 hours after this I was so angry disappointed with the horrendous and ridiculous times not to mention the rides being stopped whilst waiting for them adding to our waiting time this had happened in 2 of the rides we were waiting for ( technical issues) then 20 mins extra so extra carts could be put on to allow safety checks. I want to mention that not everyone can afford your extortionate prices to fast track having already paid a lot of money just to enter this led me to become more frustrated as we were queuing and queuing yet these people got priority but yet even they were waiting for up to an hour on some rides We went to complain to the information centre to be told they was nothing that could be done so to email I asked why it was like this and why so many people were allowed in the park to be told Merlin set a budget each day and targets need to be set, I was so upset we had saved hard to give us all an experience to enjoy we didn't even see the park due to overcrowding and waiting in queues after leaving the information centre we tried queuing for another ride but this failed due to over 2 hours wait and not enough time left to que for the ride we decided to que for an ice cream omg even that took 30 mins due to having 1 till. So it was closing time we had been on 3 rides in eight hours as you can appreciate this is very disappointing and not acceptable I would like to point out that I could of taken us all to a local fairground attraction and got better value for money and more rides and we didn't even get time to walk round the park see any of the attractions and your zoo or sealife or any of it really, very disheartening Collapse
Clueless staff but good time overall

We decided to arrange a trip to Chessington because our youngest was too short for the majority of the rides at Thorpe Park. With all the offers and vouchers available from O2 I decided that to book the tickets more than 5 days in advance was the cheaper option at £28pp. It also opened up other deals such as £6 off Digipix and £50 worth of game vouchers for £20. Booking all the extras meant that we couldn't print our tickets from home and they had to be arranged to be picked up from Chessington on the day. We arrived about 15 minutes after it opened and the car parks were filling up quickly already. Unfortunately, we weren't the only ones that planned our tickets in advance and the queue for the "advance tickets" was ridiculous in comparison to the people paying on the day. When we finally reached the booth I provided our booking number and my card and lots of tickets and bits and pieces were passed to me. The Digipix was described on the website as wristbands, so when I asked about "should we have wristbands for the Digipix" the girl just looked at me really confused. She didn't have a clue, and briefly spoke to her colleague and said "you have a ticket". So looking through the 7 bits she had passed through to me I left her to it. So, to prevent confusion for future visitors - A) DigiPix - when you advance book they will give you another ticket - which looks exactly like an entrance ticket - when you go on a ride that takes photos, you need to take the ticket to the kiosk and then they will provide two wristbands for you. B) Games Vouchers - These need to be collected from the Games Arcade which is near the Adventure Tree Carousel. They can't be used in the arcade, but can be used on all the games around the park. You know, the kind of games that you can spending a fortune on but it feels like a con and you could possibly end up with a giant stuffed dog as a prize. Overall the rides were good, some of the queue times showing for some of them were insane. The new Gruffalo ride was quoted as 60 minutes pretty much all day. Vampire went up to 80 minutes at one point and the Kobra was 45 minutes - and we went on what I assumed Chessington throught was a quiet day because a lot of the stalls were closed and the opening times had been shortened to 10-5, I think mainly because the Surrey kids had already gone back to school. Lunchtime put a really dampener on the day. We went to the all you can eat Pizza and Pasta, we easily queued for nearly 30 minutes to get a table - not because it was busy though. There were plenty of empty tables but the staff were on a completely different planet. They weren't in any rush, they didn't apologise for the wait, they didn't acknowledge you even if they were standing a couple of feet away. For a family of four we had to pay £35 odd to eat there, but after queuing for so long we felt we had to commit because we didn't want to waste anymore time waiting. The food was great though when we eventually got to it - but couldn't imagine the carnage on a really busy day. The kids had a good day, but I was slightly disappointed. This used to be my local theme park and I even worked here one summer. It's little things, like the animatronics that used to work are now broken and fallen into disrepair and just left there with their wires hanging out. One guy on the Kobra couldn't even manage to count how many people had gone on the ride, when I realised there was no room I had to get off the ride and wait for the next one. Our youngest then panicked because she was already on it and seated and ended up having a meltdown. As this was the last ride of the day it wasn't exactly how I wanted the day to end, especially after waiting for 20 minutes to get on it. Most annoying thing of all is that not all of our photos appeared on our Digipix account. Not really a lot we can do about it, we weren't handed receipts or anything and I wasn't really happy with the photos overall. The one on Dragons Fury definitely came out the worst, not sure if the cameras are at dodgy angles but one photo was only the tops of heads, couldn't see faces at all. I think to achieve everything especially during peak times you will need a couple of days there. I would recommend downloading the Chessington App, so you can check queue times as you wonder around the park so you can plan your day. Overall its good but it just feels a bit tatty and worn down and could do with a bit of a face lift on some of the more older features that have been there since I was a nipper. Collapse
It was ok

As theme parks go it was ok, my youngest a bit small for most rides but still enough to keep us busy

I have a couple of issues with what was otherwise a great two days. On arrival it's not very clear there are two queues, one for pre booked tickets and one to buy tickets on the day. You could see loads of people queuing in long queue before seeing the shorter queue for pre booked tickets. Make it clearer chessington and have more booths built to cope, can't be that expensive? Initially I was excited having an app but the map does not name attractions so it's basically a compass whereby if you make a wrong turn the only way you know is that the walk time has increased so you turn back and just have to keep guessing where next , really really annoying BUT staff are sooooooooo lovely and helpful and helped guide us. They should create app so it says something like walk past the haunted house then past pirate ship etc , so much more helpful. Queues for costa coffee where they sell doughnuts a joke, usually 15/20 min wait as often only one person can work automated button coffee machine. 5 doughnuts @ £6/7 a rip off so bring your own snacks Ice cream tubs £2.50, quite thick mister whippey style almost gelato like. Coffees around £2:30 We ate in vampire burger place, husband had double bacon burger and it was so flat I assumed they gave us regular burger but it was 2 burger, not big , I had regular chicken burger and both were meals with ice cream in tub for son and it was about £18 but I was stuffed and didn't eat from that point at 4pm for rest of the day. Good mixture of different rides for different ages and everywhere are live boards telling you waiting times. Most waiting times seemed to be exaggerated so we queued for what we thought would be 90 mins for new popular gruffalo ride , but only ended queuing for about 50 mins (did NOT get the fuss at all, it's a little round boat that just goes around and shows gruffalo statues .... that's it ) Dragon falls is hilarious water ride, I was in front and dad at back and kids must go in middle, my feet and trainers were soaked so have spare in car etc They have lots of things they charge cash for and so causes kids pressure parents. We seen soooooo many people carrying doughnuts so assumed easy to win ... £3 or £5 for two balls that must land and stay in basket, they fell out. It's harder than it looks lol Parking ticket process really stupid, get machines or just hand them out with entrance tickets, really pointless queuing again at the end of the day ?? They have picnic area and it seemed you could bring your own food and drinks in People seemed polite and queued, no people queue jumping. All staff really lovely and ask how you are enjoying your day etc Do Check times , we went Easter Monday and park shut at 6pm so thrown when kicked out the following day at 5pm There are a few areas where kids can just play so one ball type soft play and a climbing area near the hotel on the site. Seen lots of people carrying drunk flasks you could refill , we bought re fillable slush thing but then realised we still had to pay £2.50 for a refill .... If going to shows like penguin feeding time, grab drink and snacks and get there early for a seat etc One last slightly annoying thing was I bought a locker for one hour and I went back before my hour was up to get something and it asked did I want to extend rent period which I did, but it wouldn't allow me ...and it only took coins as cars function not working. It's quite expensive day entry so I expect such things to be functioning . Collapse
Kids love it but VERY expensive!

Well spaced out areas, most of the rides looking quite tired but the kids don't seem to mind. Queuing not too bad but maybe that's because we were out of school holidays. Be warned, apart from ride everything costs a lot extra. Plenty of 'gift shops' with the usual tat at high prices, and side stalls expensive too. We took picnic thank goodness as food available was not good and again expensive. We stYed overnight in the hotel. No check in before 3 pm and check out by 10. Rooms very tired looking, small and very basic. The main advantage was that we got access to the theme park at 9am an hour before the gates open so virtually no queuing. However, be warned not all rides open at 9am an d in fact the number open was very limited. But at least we got the chance to do some twice without queuing. Even at 10 some rides weren't up and running. The signage in the whole park area is appalling, they have an app but that assumes you ha an iPhone, so why not give clear signage?! Maybe they want people to walk around aimlessly wasting time? Food at the hotel was again expensive and very expensive, we walked to a local restaurant which was at least a bit more affordable. Use of the swimming pool was chargeable at £3. Per person for 45 minutes, what a rip off, it was small and stuffy, not worth it. Overall, kids oblivious to everything other than rides etc, be careful, take your own food and watch out for all the extras. Collapse
