War Horse - Cardiff Theatre Show Information

Following 8 record-breaking years in London’s West End, War Horse returns to Cardiff in summer 2018

About War Horse - Cardiff

The National Theatre’s acclaimed play War Horse will return to Wales in summer 2018 following a sell-out season in 2014. Since making it's debut in London's West End in 2007, War Horse has played in 11 countries around the world to over 7 million people. The play is notable for it's innovative use of puppetry to portray the horses which are central to the plot. In many ways, the horse puppets are the stars of the whole show!

The Story

War Horse begins on a farm in rural Devon when Ted Narracott buys a foal at auction. His young son Albert forms a close bond with the horse and names him Joey. With the outbreak of the First World War, Joey is sold to the army, much to Albert’s distress. As a cavalry horse, Joey participates in a disastrous battle where his rider is killed and Joey is captured by the Germans. He is then put to work as a draft horse, pulling artillery and ambulances. The full horror of the First World War is brought vividly to life through Joey’s adventures on the battlefields of France before an emotional reunion with Albert concludes the drama.

History of War Horse - Cardiff
