About Chicago - Dublin
As part of its UK and Irish tour the stunning Chicago musical heads to Dublin’s Bord Gáis Energy Theatre later this summer. The spectacular show will appear at the recently renamed theatre from the 21st August to 2nd September 2012.
Starring Ali Bastian as Roxie Hart, Stefan Booth as Billy Flynn and Tupele Dorgu as Velma Kelly, Chicago Dublin is set in the roaring 1920s of America and features a heady dose of “murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, adultery and treachery…” With scantily dressed tassle-clad dancers and a toe-tapping score, featuring the classics All That Jazz and Cell Block Tango, Chicago Dublin follows the tale of nightclub singer Roxie Hart after she murders her lover and winds up in the cells. Roxie’s thirst for fame and freedom can only be won with the help of smooth talking lawyer Billy Flynn, whose attention she must attract away from his other notorious client, Miss Velma Kelly.
Based on the original play by Maurine Dallas Watkins, Chicago has gone on to achieve huge success and accolade since first appearing on Broadway in 1975. In 2002 Chicago was adapted for the big screen with Renee Zelwegger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere taking on the lead roles in the movie which went on to win an Academy Award.
