Inverness

Stay Date: 13/08/10, a customer who stayed at 4* Columba Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality in Inverness wrote this review.

Our reason for staying at the Columbia hotel was to visit the castle of Mey, however the hotel room although comfortable was let down by the shower cubicle, it was in need of refurbishing. This See More  Read more information hotel is obviously used for coach parties on one night stops and city visits and the car park being 200m away from the reception would deter us from staying again.   Collapse  Hide

Weekend Break In Inverness

Stay Date: 17/04/11, a customer who stayed at 4* Columba Hotel Inverness by Compass Hospitality (2 Night Offer & 1st Night Dinner) in Inverness wrote this review.

Columba hotel is central, overlooking river. Rooms badly in need of an update, as are bathrooms. Staff are friendly, cleaners & waiting staff do a good job. Due to the fact it's an old building See More  Read more information converted into a hotel the place is plagued by noise when you are trying to sleep. People talking in the corridor, feel like they are in your room. Bed was not very comfortable & had a bit of a problemregulating the temperature in the room, so could see why they had left a fan heater there also to get the room warmed up when you came back in from a brisk walk, or in the late evening. The otherproblem in the hotel was squeeking / loose floor boards, they need to lift the carpets & get them all properly screwed down as you would in your house, at night the squeeking from people just going to thereroom was very noisy. Good points, the meal served as part of the dbb was basic but hearty, although the main course (chicken) was distinctly flavourless. The breakfast had a choice of cereals, yoghurts etc, & a fair choice of cooked items. Though I did on both days have to ask the waitresses to get the cook to fill up the empty trays. All in all value for money wasn't bad, but the place could beso much better with just a little effort. Regarding inverness as a weekend destination. It is a nice compact city centre , plenty of local things to see & do within inverness. Other sights areplantiful in the area if you have a car, you go down loch lomond, go to fortwilliam, visit culloden, or go the victorian spa town of strathpeffer . Go across to oban or up to thurso / dingwall as day trips. There are planty of shops for retail therapy & good selection of bars / restaurants for the evening. Taxis in the middle of inverness on a saturday night seem plentiful, so wouldn't worry too much ifyou got a hotel just outside of the city.   Collapse  Hide
