Salzburg is famed for its baroque architecture and Alpine setting. A popular ski resort and home to the Salzburg Festival in summer, it was the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for The Sound of Music. Stop off for 'coffee and cakes', Salzburg is home to the longest serving cafe in Austria.

Salzburg

A customer from North Yorkshire who stayed at 5* Hotel Altstadt Radisson SAS in Salzburg wrote this review.

Good standard hotel in central position. Only 15 minutes from the airport. Central area has many good restaurants and shops. Best coffee shop is above Chocolatiers in the square opposite the information bureau.

Christmas Markets of Salzburg

A customer from BIRMINGHAM who stayed at 4* Austrotel Salzburg in Salzburg wrote this review.

A really wonderful way to get into the Christmas spirit - Salzburg is such a lovely city at any time of the year but at Christmas it becomes truly magical. I defy Scrooge himself not to be overwhelmed by the charm and 'gemutlichkeit' (hospitality) of the Austrian people. The Austrotel was excellent. Perfect location, huge well appointed rooms, wonderful breakfast and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. They even had free tea, coffee and soft drinks available for guests to help themselves during the day and free internet access too. We booked The Sound of Music tour through the hotel with Panorma Tours. A little cheesy but if you like The Sound of Music you won't be disappointed - and even if you don't its a great way of seeing Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut area in just 4 hours - well worth the money (35 euro for adults, half price for children) We took our 12 year old daughter with us and she loved Salzburg - its so child friendly - all of the bars and restaurants cater very well for families. Also at Christmas, as well as the wonderful Christmas markets themselves, the city has an outdoor skating rink (just in front of the Mozart statue in Mozartplatz) which is great fun and good value for money. Food and drink is great quality and v. reasonably priced - we loved the Glühwein and the various food stalls selling all manner of hot snacks - sausages, meat pancakes, leberkase semmel (a kind of meatloaf on a roll). In all a truly wonderful short break - we will definitely go back again.
