This morning head north to Windermere, a journey which takes approximately two hours and travels via Lancaster, Preston or Oxenholme. The village of Windermere grew around the Windermere railway station, about a mile and a half from the lake. Enjoy a steady stroll down to the waterfront for glorious views over the shimmering water. Bowness-on-Windermere, situated directly on the lakeshore, is the Lake District’s most popular holiday resort, and it's a renowned centre for boating activities. Take the ferry across the lake to visit some of the other resorts which dot the shore - Ambleside is one of the most popular destinations. At the southern end is the lakeside station of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway, and also the Aquarium of the Lakes, where visitors can learn about all the types of fresh water creatures that live in and around lakes across the world.Read more
