Located in northwest Portugal, the cosmopolitan Porto City is famed for its Port wine and offers an array of museums, galleries, concert halls and monuments. The small fishing town of Póvoa de Varzim has a picturesque harbour, golden beaches, bustling casinos, popular cafes, restaurants and lively discos.

Taking the Port in Porto

We booked a couple of Ryanair flights from Stansted to Porto, then a short taxi drive to the Vila Gale Hotel. We have stayed in couple of Vila gale Hotels before and this one didn't dissapoint. great location with city views from 17th floor window. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast a fantastic bufffet. Used by lots of coach tour companies but other than the lifts being very crowded on a couple of occassions we encountered no problems.

Use of the Metro trains recommended as they are on time, clean and reasonably priced.Tickets can be bought for the day and for different zones. We used the Metro to take us back to the airport- not much longer than a taxi and far cheaper!!

We went, primarily, to see the Rolling Stones concert. Excellent. Metro system very good. Tour bus (which we think is the best way to get your bearings in a "new" city) would have been good if only the earphones worked. As they mostly didn't, we missed out on most of the commentary. The Metro system is very modern and eco-friendly and is easy to understand, therefor, making it easy to get around.
