Yorkshire has 'so much to offer' tourists
Date Posted: 06/04/11
Yorkshire has been described as a county which offers everything imaginable to tourists, according to a travel author.
Jos Simon, who writes the Rough Guide series, told the Yorkshire Post that those booking York hotels will get to see the city which is the "jewel in the crown" of the region.
"It is a relatively small city but with so much there - whether it be the world famous Minster or less well-known attractions like English Heritage’s Cold War bunker, the Bar Convent or the Micklegate Bar Museum," he added.
Mr Simon's words came after it was revealed that York came out on top in a survey to find the place which Britons most enjoy visiting.
Yorkshire also had another representative in the top ten, with coastal town Whitby claiming seventh position.
Just over an hour away from York, Whitby is home to the famous Magpie fish and chip restaurant and the Abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula.
