World Snooker Championship 2012 coming to Sheffield
Date Posted: 10/04/12
This year's World Snooker Championship will be drawing the best players from around the globe to battle it out at the Crucible Theatre this spring.
The event is just under two weeks away, which still gives snooker fanatics enough time to book Sheffield hotels in time to attend the opening rounds from Saturday, April 21st.
Snooker's most coveted prize is up for grabs for the 16 top seeded players in the world as well as another 16 that have fought through the tough qualifying rounds.
The Crucible Theatre has hosted the World Snooker Championship since 1977, although the event began in 1927.
John Higgins is the current champion after defeating Judd Trump 18-15 in last year's event to win his fourth title.
There have been fears recently that snooker chief Barry Hearn will alter the format of the World Championship that will ruin the event. After Mr Hearn introduced short matches to the UK championships finalist Mark Allen alleged the game was going to pot, according to the Sun.
However, Mr Hearn has assured snooker fans when he explained to the BBC will not touch the World Championship.
