West End to get Elephant Man transfer?

Critically acclaimed Broadway hit The Elephant Man may well be on its way to the West End this year, with the entirety of the current New York cast said to be coming along for the ride.

This is according to the star of the show Bradley Cooper, who sparked a flurry of excitement in Theatreland yesterday (January 7th) when he told talk show host Jimmy Fallon: "We’re going to do it [in New York] till 22 February, and then I think we’re going to take it to London."

The production is directed by six-time Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis and opened on Broadway last month when it received plaudits from the critics for its "breathtakingly beautiful" script and a solid performance from Cooper in the physically demanding title role.

Famed for starring on the television in a number of long-running and popular shows such as Jack & Bobby, Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, Cooper is also the holder of People Magazine's 2011 Sexiest Man Alive award.

While The Elephant Man has yet to be confirmed for a West End transfer, the star's reassurances that his fellow thespians will be coming with him to perform in London are likely to be a draw for audiences.

Other performers in the cast include Cooper’s American Hustle co-star Alessandro Nivola and Broadway regular Patricia Clarkson, both of whom have enthusiastic fanbases in the UK and the US.

"We’re working on it now, but I think it’s going to work out. We’re going to take the whole company, too. Everybody," Cooper told Fallon, during his interview.

Other stars headed to the West End in leading productions this year include Benedict Cumberbatch and Kristin Scott-Thomas. So be sure that you don't miss out on London's glittering theatre scene this year.
