Verity Rushworth to replace Connie Fisher in The Sound of Music
Date Posted: 10/08/11
Verity Rushworth will step up into the full-time role of Maria in The Sound of Music after Connie Fisher was forced to step down.
The How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria? winner has been struggling with a throat condition which has limited her vocal range.
Rushworth is best known for playing Donna Windsor in Emmerdale and will appear alongside Jason Donovan in front of those booking theatre breaks as the production heads on to Cardiff from Tuesday August 23rd.
It will also take residence in Manchester, Newcastle and Wimbledon over the coming two months.
"After many months of battling with a throat condition, known as congenital sulcus vocalis, my vocal range has altered dramatically and it is with much regret that I have to withdraw from The Sound of Music as I no longer have the range to sing the part of Maria," said Fisher in a statement.
Rushworth is no stranger to the stage, having starred as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray in London's West End.
