Sweeney Todd for West End return

A critically acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber that was initially staged on Broadway is to make its way to London's West End next year, following rave reviews.
The semi-staged production, which stars the incredible talents of Academy Award-winner Emma Thompson and opera stalwart Bryn Terfel, is to take on the capital's largest theatre, the Coliseum, for just 13 dates in March 2015.
Commentators have suggested that it will be a particular treat to see Thompson return to the stage, especially following her confession that playing Mrs Lovett on Broadway was the most terrifying experience of her life.
"I hope to cope better this time," she told The Guardian. "As in no nausea, no actual nausea. If I can manage the fear without the nausea, I'll be really happy."
In the 25 years since she last appeared on the London stage, Thompson has become known for her film work, which included playing Professor Trelawney in the Harry Potter series and writing and performing in the childrens film Nanny McPhee.
But despite the long break, she's looking forward to getting back onstage, having fond memories of the New York engagement. "It made me weep … the chance to do it again was like a dream coming true."
The five performances on Broadway were a roaring success, with the critics declaring them to be some of the best theatre on the Great White Way in recent years.
Sweeney Todd previously made headlines when it was revived at the Adelphi Theatre with Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball in the lead roles. Once again, critics lauded the incredible performances from the leading pair, as well as the lush orchestrations, incredible staging and atmospheric feel.
It seems that Sondheim's masterpiece is going to continue coming back to the West End and attracting the big stars for some time to come.
