Stomp celebrates 12 years in West End

West End favourite and international hit Stomp is celebrating 12 years on London's prestigious theatre scene, having witnessed its first 'curtain up' in the capital in September 2002.

The unique and innovative performance sees a group of talented stage performers uncover the magic of music created from mundane objects such as bin lids, wooden sticks and various other odds and ends.

The show has a long and complicated history that started when a bright young theatre group from Brighton decided to see what would happen if they experimented with a new form of music made from items found from around their homes.

Stomp was born and first came to the stage for the 1991 incarnation of the Edinburgh Festival, before interest from around the world started to spread. Tours were eventually booked for the group to travel to America, Australia, Greece, Germany, South Africa, the Netherlands, France and more.

Amid all of this, the musical opened at the Vaudeville Theatre in the West End, before performing at the Royal Variety Performance for the second time. During its 12 year run, it transferred to the Ambassadors Theatre where it can still be found today.

Those interested in experiencing the magic are advised that tickets are bookable up until December 2015, and that the show will have a separate cast performing at the Salford Lowry from October 28th until November 1st.

Stomp also hit the headlines back in May this year after Cameron Mackintosh purchased the Ambassadors Theatre; the musical will be evicted in order to transform the venue into a receiving house for productions from theatres in the subsidised sector.

"We will be looking at options for a new home in London to further our phenomenally successful 12-year run and wish the new owners of the Ambassadors the best of luck in their new venture," the performers commented at the time.
