Shoppers vowing to splash out this Christmas
Date Posted: 25/11/11
Britons are planning to spend as much money on the festive season as they do every year, despite the current economic climate, according to new research.
While on Christmas shopping breaks, 58 per cent told AXA's big money index that they will not be cutting back on presents, food and other seasonal paraphernalia.
Furthermore, those living in London were found to be the least likely to hold back from spending money this festive season.
"I think we're going to see a lot more shopping around and possibly the highest ever online trade this year as consumers seek to stretch their pounds even further," said Nick Turner from AXA.
In the capital, a number of large stores will be staying open late to help people complete their Christmas shopping.
Oxford Street's Debenhams will close at 11pm between Tuesday December 20th and Friday December 23rd, while there are also late-night openings for Harrods and Harvey Nicholls in Knightsbridge during the same period.
